Re: [MlMt] Junk folder gets messages when Sieve unchecked

2021-07-29 Thread Ralph Alvy
I have exactly one IMAP account: Fastmail.

Under Sources, I see Spam. I do not see Junk.

Under Mailboxes, I see Spam and Junk. Both of these are seen as Junk by
MailMate when I look at their Type.

The server side is moving the message to Spam. Then, on the MlMt side, you
see this move occur in the Spam folder and because you also have a local
Junk folder - also mapped as Junk - it will mirror whatever is going on in
the local-Spam folder. And actually what happens in local-Junk should be
 mirrored in the local-Spam folder.

I’m not sure if just removing the local-Junk folder is fine - probably
should be but since I haven’t personally done that, I will withhold any

Let’s first make sure that we are talking about the same junk folder.
You should see one for each of your IMAP accounts under Sources and also
one funder Mailboxes with submailbox for each of your IMAP accounts.
Which one are you referring to?

You can think of the folder MailMate calls Junk as a kind of overlay
over all the folders of type junk on all your accounts -- whether
they're called spam, junk, or something else.

If you have multiple junk folders, MailMate's Junk folder will expand
and you'll see individual accounts' designated spam folders underneath
it.

I don't believe anything will break if you delete the Junk folder but
... I've never tried. :)

It sounds like a local Mailbox Junk got assigned the type of Junk (or
Spam got renamed locally) and it is mapped onto the standard (for that
server) mailbox Spam on the server. In other words, it is the same
mailbox (folder as you call them), just named differently locally and on

That's a SpamAssassin header, added by the server. Your mail

put that message in Junk, not MailMate. The total score of 7.2 is
significantly above the default SA threshold score for spam (5.0)
but
the 'X-Spam-hits' itemization shows that almost entirely due to
one
issue: the "URIBL_DBL_ABUSE_SPAM" hit scored at 7. That hit
indicates
that there was a link in the message body whose domain is listed
in the
Spamhaus DBL list: https://www.spamhaus.org/dbl. It is rare for
the DBL

to list domains that are not exclusively used in spam, but it does
happen.

Re: [MlMt] Junk folder gets messages when Sieve unchecked

2021-07-26 Thread Ralph Alvy
Okay. Here's what I see.

I have a Spam folder on Fastmail server. In MailMate its Type is Junk.

I have a Junk folder in MailMate that is not on Fastmail server. In MailMate
its Type is Junk.

I now see identical messages in both folders. For some reason I didn't before,
but I think that had something to do with my transition to Fastmail a few
nights ago, importing from Tuffmail to Fastmail while keeping Tuffmail online
for a couple days.

But for now, both folders have the same messages in each and when I delete a
message in Spam, it is deleted in Junk. And if I delete in Junk, it's deleted
in Spam.

So it looks like I can just get rid of the Junk folder altogether since
Fastmail doesn't even see it. Correct?

Re: [MlMt] Junk folder gets messages when Sieve unchecked

2021-07-26 Thread Antonio Leding

So to recap (please correct any errors):

* There is a folder locally in MlMt called **Junk**; this same folder
does **not** exist on the Fastmail server.

* There is a folder on the Fastmail server called **Spam**; this same
folder does **not** exist locally in MlMt.

* SpamAssassin is running on the Fastmail side.
* The message in question was moved to the local **Junk** folder but
**not** the **Spam** folder on the Fastmail side.
* The message in question had header info that indicates it was
evaluated by SpamAssassin and also had a relatively high Spam score
(7.2).

If the above is accurate, then the next 2 things I would like to know
are:

* What happened to the message on the Fastmail side? Meaning in which
folder did it land?

* If you right-click on the local **Junk** folder and then goto
“Mailbox Type”, how is it mapped?

Re: [MlMt] Junk folder gets messages when Sieve unchecked

2021-07-26 Thread Robert Brenstein
An IMAP server normally should have a junk mailbox. Whether it is called
junk, spam, or else depends on the server. Have you checked in the
sources the mailbox types for the source mailboxes? It is an item in the
popup menu when you right-click on one of the folders in a source. You
should have a mailbox for each of the special types set. You may want to
first check your subscription to see whether by accident some mailboxes
are not subscribed to.

There's no such thing as a local *real* folder created by MailMate, so
that must be a "Smart Folder" whose contents are defined by some logical
definition, drawing messages from some set of source folders that exist
on the IMAP server.

MailMate does include by default a "Junk" Smart Folder that includes all
messages from whatever server-side folders you've labeled (or MM has
labeled by default) as having a "Mailbox Type" of "Junk" across all
accounts. If there's not a top-level folder named "Junk" on the server
side, I expect that MM would see one named "Spam" as the right folder to
include in the "Junk" Smart Folder.

So my *revised* theory is that your Spam folder on the Fastmail server
is set in MM as the Junk-type folder for that account, that they in fact
did put the message in Spam, and you moved it elsewhere before noticing
that it had been in Spam (which is down in the Sources section of the
mailbox list where you might not see it.)

I may just uncheck that image checking box and see if that stops all this.

Re: [MlMt] Junk folder gets messages when Sieve unchecked

2021-07-25 Thread Antonio Leding
OK - I wasn’t quite right - image checking does work with spam in that
you can configure the spam score that will inform the image checking
process.

That said, I checked several of the messages in my Junk boxes and none
of them have that same header information. What you posted looks like
server side spam checking like SpamAssassin or similar…
