MI GPS Tracker
Hi All. I am looking at a GPS tracker to do data capture. I have looked at the Magellan 350. What else is good. What I want to be able to do is go into the field capture a series of points and then download them into MapInfo and link them to my data. How easy is this and what GPS is the best. MI MID/MIF Polygon (Region) Island Convention
Can anyone explain how MIF represents a polygon with holes? Can holes have holes? I remembered from somewhere in the distant past that the first polygon in a region is always an outer boundary written in one direction (let's say counter-clockwise) and holes are represented by succeeding polygons in the region stored in the opposite direction (let's say counter-clockwise). But when I actually looked at some MIF files today and it looks like the ordering of the first polygon is usually but not always in one direction. I looked at Bill's MID/MID doc but it didn't mention holes. MI RE: KGMV4.exe download
Daniel, Sometimes zip .exe don't get accross properly. Try downloading the same file using a different browser (the highest version possible). MI: Splash Screen and command line
I do remember that it is possible to avoid showing the opening splash screen by adding "-nosplash" (without the quotes) in the command line launching MI. I know that one can launch applications or workspaces by adding them to the command line (no -, no ", but full paths). But is there some documentation that will list and explain other possible components of the command line? MI Connect Points into multisegment lines - spiderweb!
Who can solve this for me? I have lots of points, spreading out from the center. A want to draw a single multisegment polyline connecting all the points to all other points within a specified distance from each point. Should look like a spiderweb! MI labelr tool
As recently discussed here, I tried using the labelr tool to convert autolabels to a separate text layer. Problem : I set the view in the map window at 1:24 000 and autolabel a point layer w/ font size = 8 pt. Scenario A.If Labelr is then run only labels within the map window are transferred to the Cosmetic Layer. Scenario B.If Labelr is run so that the entire layer can be viewed, the transferred font size is a huge 50 pt. With the labels still in the Cosmetic Layer, one can the zoom back to 1:24K and change the font size to 8 pt, but then the label position is inaccurate. All other attempts to achieve the desired label size, such as changing attributes after the labels have been saved to a new layer, achieve similar undesireable results. How can I create a text layer of labels that are positioned correctly and with specific font attributes? Am I missing something here? MI Typo in the help file: Proportion WtAvg
Notice that 6,000 down there. Should be 60,000. Also, I'm pretty sure that this works based on the population of the old object, not the new one. Proportion Avg Computes the average based on the proportion of values from the covered areas (weighs the averages according to area). For example, if 80% of a new object's area is from Object A having a mortality rate of .8% and 20% of the new object's area is from Object B having a birth mortality rate of .65%, then the birth rate of the object would be equal to .8 x .008 + .0065 x .2 = .0077 or .77% Proportion WtAvg Computes the average based on the proportion of values from the covered areas (weighs the averages according to another field whose value is proportioned). For example, (continuing from the example above), Population of the new object, Object A = 34,000. Population of new object, Object B = 26,000. The birth mortality rate is (.8 x 34,000 + .6 x 26,000) /6,000 = .713. Yup: years ago, when I was a heavy MapInfo programmer, I did this sort of thing all the time. Now I'm afraid I might forget. Considering the request came today, and the turnaround time is tomorrow, I'm asking for assistance today in updating my zip code file by the sum of all the proportional parts of the census tract. I've used the update columns command, and now my mapbasic window reads: Add Column "Zplowres" (propoverlap )From Mdtr Set To proportion sum(Pop_90) Where within Is this the right code? I'm getting the usual "error overlaying objects." and I get bunches of zip codes that show up with a population of 0. I've got Mapinfo 5.0. Vague recollection that despite other problems the error overlay problem is resolved in more recent versions? Can I FIX the problem with some utility, or can I only FIND the problematic areas? BTW, the Baltimore Sun did a bunch of editorials on lead problems, and it's suddenly of great interest to the governor's office, hence the quick turn-around time... (and the fact that I'm in class next week.) In summary: What's the right code? What do I do about the error overlaying objects problem? (Yes: I'll search the archives for answers, too..) MI Updating an object's coordinates
