Re: MI MapX and Oracle...PLEASE HELP - WRONG QUESTION???

1999-11-21 Thread G E O I N F O

Hello All,

I haven't got a real answer for this question... Was I making a wrong
question so it wasn't responded properly? Or it was simply because no one in
position to respond?

Thank's Regards,

Hi Sam,

The thing is actually we have no knowledge at all about Oracle Tools.
This issue was launched during our last approach to win an application
development service. Our client wanted us to consider the usage of Oracle
Tools as many as possible as their company's compliance, i.e.
Designer/Developer 2000 and or Oracle Power Object as Front End Development
Tools and indeed the server engine - Oracle 7.3.4(existing system) or its
latest version version 8.0.0.X even 8i if necessary.

It wasn't bothered me when I was thinking of using MS Visual Studio 6 with
MapX 3.5, since we have tried and got the feel of it. We even look forward
to using MapX 4.0 as soon as it's been released. And planning to connect it
with any Oracle server engine - obviously using ODBC.
Buts since we were asked to consider the use Oracle's as many as possible, I
believe we have to answer this technical compliance policy with reliable
technical statements, especially from (all of) you who has had experiences
connecting Oracle with MapInfo/MapX.

Thank's a lot for your attention.

Gatot,

I hear you and will help if you can (re)mention the specific problems,
however I have to say that I don't use the Oracle Dev tools. The last time
I checked them out, they had OLE compliance issues which prevented them from
winning my heart. I would think that by now they would be able to take
advantage of any OCX like MapX; is this not the case? What is the error or
trouble?
As far as connecting MapInfo/MapX to Oracle 7.x or 8.x, you may use ODBC, or
in the latest version of MapX (v4.0), ADO. As I recall, the Oracle tools at
least provide for ODBC, although they like to use OLE (which is nice).

I'd like to hear more about the specific problem.

Subject: MI MapX and Oracle...PLEASE HELP

HELLO MI-LISTERS,

Please help me getting some answers for this issue...since I have no other
resource for this.

I want to have any technical experience story on map based application using
Oracle Designer/Developer 2000 and MapX. Are there any possibilities to
develop a map based application based on an existing application that had
been developed under those Oracle Tools?
How about Oracle 7.0 and 8.0 with MapX/MapInfo - does MapInfo have already
support it instead of Oracle 8i?

We have a client that asked us to develop a map based application with
mapinfo using their compliance IS standards, i.e. oracle environment.

As always... TIA

Re: MI MICAD is expired

1999-11-16 Thread G E O I N F O

Hi Jarmo,

We use MICAD demo version for rapid data development in several demo
requirements with success.
Yes - we did get the same expiration challenge.
This might look a bit weird - but we had to reinstall its Windows98 in the
same computer just to re run this product. MICAD will run again for a
certain period as specified by the developer.

Subject: MapX or MI-Pro in Pipeline Gas/Oil Management
Importance: High

Hello Fellow Mappers,

I am interested in having information of the usage of MapX and MI-Pro in
managing Pipeline Gas or Oil.
Please kindly direct me to any web-site or product package that you might
know - so I can explore more detail.
I need to present a conceptual idea of how GIS could play a vital role in
pipeline management to a group of Pipeline Managers in a very near future.

Thanking you in advance - as always.

MI MapX questions

1999-08-18 Thread G E O I N F O

Hello All...,

I have some qustions regarding MapX Application Programming
Development.

1. We have tried developing a VB and MapX based
application.
After it was compiled to be
an .exe and made its installer using Package Deployment Wizard
- the
 application always asked for
Mapx30.ocx. It just won't work until I copy the whole SDK into the
PC.
 Q: Do we
always need to install and use MapX SDK to run an application?
 If not
- how?

2. We tried to call a geotiff raster to be shown as a vector
backdrop - It really took a long time compare to the
 usual MI Pro.
Q: What do I have to to
make it faster?
 After
it was loaded - We failed to show it in a small zoom(It doesn't appear in the
screen)
 Image
quality also degraded(appears some lines on top of image)
 Is it
capable opening more than one raster file?(We loaded two files and than the app.
hang up).
 Our
image file size average is 35MB.

We use MapX 3.5 and VB 6.0 in a PC with
PII-400MHz, 64MB Ram, 4 MB VRam, 2X 4.3GB HDD.

Please do help us - since this is our first experience
developing a map based app. with MapX and VB.
Your shared experiences and ideas would be very
appreciated.

Thank's in Advance.

MI The best A0 Size Printer for Vectro Raster

1999-07-16 Thread G E O I N F O

Hello everyone..,

We are planning to buy a new A0 size Plotter for Vector prints over Raster
Transparent.
I oversee some statement from some users that HP 1055CM is the best in
matter of speed but not recommended for Raster Transparent printing.
This make us delay to choose this type, or are there any other solutions for
requirement?

We need your information on experience based, if any.
