While they are both looking nice, since we are starting fresh with the
7.0 release without having legacy banner to support, would it be
possible to have these banners as a **2:1** ratio instead of using this
**non*** standard size?

Just asking otherwise this will be broken again for social media, and be
copy pasted everywhere from blog posts to press releases "content-bail"
websites.

This is all these things that makes the project perceived by the general
public of lacking polish :/

[libreoffice-marketing] Further increasing my contributions to the LibreOffice project

2020-04-27 Thread William Gathoye (LibreOffice)
Hello everyone,

TLDR; I'm now working around one day per week for Collabora as a
part-timer.

In more details, for those who may know, I have been present into this
project since the very beginning days.

The story started when I saw on NextInpact (called PCInpact at that
time) an announcement mentioning that some motivated contributors,
fed up of the situation of the dying OpenOffice project, decided to
fork and create a new independent community called LibreOffice.

Back at the time, I was a Microsoft Student Partner and decided to see
how this LibreOffice fork was going in order to compare both worlds,
so different. That's why I joined the very first LibreOffice
conference in Paris in 2011, learned to know Sophie, JB Faure and
Michael Meeks. I still remember the first day of the conference, where
I asked Michael whether the seat next to him was free. He was coding
gradient cell backgrounds in Calc and was stressed to bother him as he
was coding. How impressed I was to be part of quite influential tech
developers whose I saw interview in the media just a few days before,
especially as I needed to express myself in a language I was only
starting to learn at that time.

The time passed and, as a volunteer, my position in LibreOffice has
changed throughout the years. I reported some translations issues with
French, contributed to some code fixes, tried to put in place a
project called LibreOffice Weekly News. Now, I'm in charge of helping
newbies on #libreoffice-fr (IRC Freenode), managing the @LibreOfficeFR
community Twitter account (posting news, helping users, and forwarding
issues/reports to the person in charge of, engaging with the community
of +3600 followers with 15K tweets published in 1.5 years), answering
questions on the Ask instance, translating article on the French blog,
and promoting the use of FOSS and LibreOffice.

I have been trying to be the buffer between the community requests and
the persons guiding The Document Foundation. Satisfying both sides and
all the partners of the LibreOffice ecosystem is not as easy as you
may think. For example, in order not too loose a LibreOffice user, I
had to redirect him/her to the mobile version being called Collabora
Office on iOS and Android. When people asked me to get auto updates on
Windows, I redirected to LibreOffice by CIB on the Microsoft Store.
Explaining the differences between MS Office, repeating several times
a day that you are likely to loose your files with Apache OpenOffice,
promoting ODF etc. was my daily life for 2 years now, still during my
free time. Trying to find the time to do it, every day, at least 2h a
day, is even harder.

In 2016, as I had my own company at that time, I get to know the
Mattermost project, where I'm still involved as a contributor. I
completed the French translation, crafted the msi installer for
Windows, made a bunch of other fixes and maintaining the stack for
some GNU/Linux distributions. I got more and more responsibilities
there, still as a volunteer. At the second to last FOSDEM edition, I
put Corey Hulen, the Mattermost CTO in contact with Michael Meeks in
order for them to work together and bring the ability to read
LibreOffice supported documents directly into Mattermost. This is was
highly requested among people wanting to get away from GAFAM owned
solutions.

In 2018, I left my 6 persons company and decided to take back my
studies to seek other more thrilling goals in the future. The COVID-19
situation that stroke us put me in difficulty as my student situation
risked to be extended. Mattermost wasn't hiring students anymore as
the situation was too risky and small jobs were out of question as
well as everything was closed down.

Cor Nouws recently approached me in order to provide some help in
translating the Collabora Productivity website to French. Strong of my
experience managing the LibreOfficeFR Twitter account, and
understanding to know the French speaking market, I decided maybe this
was the opportunity to leverage that experience and to contribute to
this rich and circular LibreOffice ecosystem even further. This is
why, on April 15th, I joined Collabora Productivity, the driving force
behind LibreOffice in the cloud, in order to prove FOSS projects can
be successful thanks to their partners. As a student, I'm only working
around one day per week as a part-timer. Sorry for not having updated
the community sooner, I only take the time to write it down now. Last
week was a really busy one =)

I'm deeply convinced that the success of an FOSS project is determined
by the success of their certified professionals. That's the spirit I
follow and will always be following for any of the FOSS project I
participate in, LibreOffice included.

Thanks for the help of people who helped me to grow over the past 9
years. I'm looking forwards for the 9 next ones.

Have a nice week ahead,

Like discussed on Telegram, when something is trending everywhere you
need to act in quite an urgency. Seeing the LibreOffice team name being
taken by someone not from the community would have been more annoying to
recover afterwards.[1] The same applies basically with everything for
which asking for agreement would take an eternity to resolve.[2] Time
flies faster on social media than in real life.

Stopping here because I could do other things more meaningful for the
community instead of quibbling for basically no reason.

But I'm keeping your remark with great attention in my head. My huge
number of mails with @libreoffice.org is indeed a problem I need to
resolve fast. I'm receiving more of them than I can answer a day
unfortunately. :(

Hard work pays off :)

Let's keep the hard work rolling =)

[libreoffice-marketing] Ability to get some LibO stickers

Hi there,

I know we usually don't do this and this is more an exception than a
rule, but two of the LibreOfficeFR followers would like to have some
LibreOffice stickers.

They have been supportive for a bunch of time now and giving them some
stickers would definitely help in spreading the word of LibreOffice.

Thanks in advance for them =)

[libreoffice-marketing] St Pauli + skeleton image on the blog

2020-04-06 Thread William Gathoye (LibreOffice)
Hello everyone,

The t-shirt of Leif-Jöran is showcasing a "St Pauli" + skeleton.

While St Pauli is a football team in Germany, it is also an
activist/political movement in that region.

Also, the skeleton in this covid-19 period may be perceived as
inappropriate by some people.

While we are trying to be perceived less as a "geeky" community, the
skeleton may also again put an emphasis on the "hacker" word.

I encourage you to switch to this less touchy version instead.[2]

There isn't much text in the store links.

Maybe sending the sources of the picture assets you defined on the store

Yes I know your opinion, and you now mine: nowadays, to attract and have
more reach you have to lower quality or at least be less formal to
attract new people. :( That's a situation not only available for
LibreOffice, but every organization is concerned. Those not investing in
a CM are loosing reach. :(

Forgot to mention in the previous mail, when I got an original question
not asked on Ask, I write it myself on Ask and answer to it in order to
don't loose track of it.

Nowadays, people wants an answer ASAP. Heiko tends to agree with me on
this topic. Even if the answer has been answered multiple times, asking
them to go on our Ask instance will lead to discouragement, and
redirecting to Ask is the same work as copy-pasting a previous tweet :)

It's not about finding an answer. The issue is the amount of questions.
I already have a answer for *nearly all* cases on Twitter. After one
year, I know exactly what to search for in previous tweets to do a copy
paste, tweak it a bit and publish the answer :)

If I was better at machine learning, most of the question could be
answered by an AI :)

Yep. Before, you only had a mailing list and a translation to do, now
twitter and the blog come into the equation. We need to find a proper
resilient pipeline to make things smooth :)

But actually after 2 big released (since the FR blog was born in Oct
2019), there is indeed a pattern. I noticed Italo is using nearly the
same messages only tweaked and now, the more the time elapses, the more
we have twitter+blog templates ready to go :)

I checked by myself by buying the app on the MS Store and installing it
on a fresh Windows 10 Pro 1909 (November update) VM. I can confirm only
English (South-Africa, UK, and USA) and German (Germany) are being
installed. :/

> Yes, that's on purpose. We're currently offering _one_ version there,
> and there's still quite a few users only able to run 32bit software.

Any technical reason to this? I have reread the doc and it implies that
the app can only contain one bitness as Target Processor Architecture.
If we want 64 and 32bit support, we need to define 64-bit and bundle the
32 bit version in it as well.

This is how I actually understood the concept with this sentence which
may be a bit unclear though: `If the Target Processor Architecture for
your app is x64 processor type, the app package must contain x64 binary
or image type files. Note that in this case the package can also include
x86 files, but the primary app experience should utilize the x64 binary` [1]

I don't know whether specifying Target Processor Architecture to 64 bit
is only limiting to 64 bit devices...

*But*, unless I'm wrong, with the bunch of the users I helped via the
LibreOfficeFR twitter account via TeamViewer, I never saw a Windows 10 S
in a 32 bit variant. In my opinion, Windows 10 S has been built for 64
bit chips only IMHO, so supporting 32 bit *seems* irrelevant here.

Unless we are supporting the MS Store from Windows 8.1?

> Heh - that's the initial release date of the product - the version

> queue.

Ok this is indeed a limitation of the MS Store. I can confirm this is
indeed version 6.3.3.2 that is installed on my side. Unless I'm blind,
the latest version available can only be seen *after the installation*.
How stupid is that? ;(

Indeed Twitter isn't a bug reporting tool, but is great to catch
attention and redirect the end user to the right team/instance :).

So to your question, I would say redirecting to language specific Ask
instances without hesitation. Telegram and especially Bugzilla are out
of range for common users IMHO.

Most if not all users I have advised have disabled the S Mode. Most of
them are students whose apps they need are not on the Microsoft Store.

Not all companies can afford providing a specific version for stores.
This especially applies for technologies blacklisted from stores (e.g.
Java, electron, etc. for the Mac App Store) and apps with anti-piracy
features.

Hopefully, TDF and TDC will fix this situation in the very near future.
Widening the different channels we have to install LibreOffice is a good
way to ensure omnipresence and ease of migrations. :) And the potential
removal of the "Vanilla" mention for future TDC versions is a good way
to improve LibreOffice brand awareness.

I'm following on this, because after the Windows 7 deprecation notice
from yesterday[0], the LibreOfficeFR channel is flooded by questions
wrt. LibreOffice Vanilla provided by CIB.

One user has reported to me 3 issues he has been experiencing:

- LibreOffice Vanilla is only available in English and German, other
languages are absent from the interfaces and from the options. The
Microsoft account he uses is well defined in French (France) and the
Windows he uses is using the same language

- LibreOffice Vanilla is reported as a 32-bit app by the Windows Task
Manager.

- And lastly, even if you said new version are not available yet
(because of holidays), the version I have access to hasn't been updated
since 2019-07-22 according to the Microsoft Store. It's weird it is
displaying "Release date" rather than "Last update date" and the
LibreOffice version is missing from the description, how come? Is this a
restriction from Microsoft?

Also, if you need help in providing a more up to date version, or are
just missing time, feel free to ask us for help :) Always willing to
bring help and experience.

IMHO, the 18 months security update is not valid for the LibreOffice
Vanilla version but rather for the "LibreOffice by CIB" version.

I understood it like this. If the description was expected to mean
something else, then it will need to be reworded IMHO.

While this is indeed enforced, on x86, the S mode can be disabled by the
user. This action is irreversible though. [1]. The method is completelly
legal and authorized by Microsoft.

Then, afterwards, the end user is able to install apps from outside the
Microsoft Store and may install LibreOffice from our website for example.

Oh. That's not an issue per se, the slides will be made public after the

[libreoffice-marketing] LibreOfficeFR community - Request for presentation at FOSDEM hackfest

2020-01-05 Thread William Gathoye (LibreOffice)
Hello everyone,

TL;DR: see. FOSDEM meeting below.

# New accomplishment

I'm very pleased to announce that today LibreOfficeFR overtook
LibreOfficeBR in terms of followers on Twitter: reaching nearly 3000
followers and 12 000 tweets published. LibreOfficeFR is now the first
native language community on Twitter just behind @LibreOffice. :)

I know they are just numbers and this is not a race, but this is a big
accomplishment taking into account no Growth Hacking method have been
employed to virtually increase this number.

The French community has been working hard over the past few weeks and
months. Trying to know and respect as much as possible the special way
TDF was working, attracting new contributors (or people having interest
in bringing help), trying to get old ones on board since the OO.o days
(contacting them via convoluted PM on forum instances is hard),
organizing hackfests, having a modern and welcoming visibility via our
French Twitter account and blog instance, helping via our French mailing
lists, etc.

# Breaking eggs

I'm conscious I gave *trouble* to some of you by adopting daring tweets,
taking stance on multiple positions especially wrt. GAFAMs (even while
MS was sponsoring COSM), maybe giving too much visibility to some
LibreOffice certified professionals compared to others, and having a
perspective different from what TDF has been used to have. I *apologize*
for that and am truly sorry.

Even if the Twitter experience has been incredibly positive (wrt. the
bunch of gratitude we receive), of course, making omelettes without
breaking eggs is impossible. You will always have unsatisfied people no
matter what you do, but that number is really low, hopefully :)

At least, we can now say we know what kind of public we have and can
reach via LibreOfficeFR. After 12k tweets, most of the time, we can
detect some questions are always the same as so could answer patterns.
We have now answers nearly ready to use, if you know what to search for
in TweetDeck in previous conversations. This could even potentially be
automated by an AI :p

# FOSDEM meeting

Repetitive questions on Twitter is helping to showcase problems and
rooms for improvement I would like to expose to you. These are not
related to the software, but rather to the project structure.

The solutions are not hard to implement, and I even propose to help in
these. The solutions consist in just changes here and there that would
help everyone, I'm sure[1]. :)

This is why I was asking if at the FOSDEM hackfest, I can give[2] you a
25 minutes public presentation about this and *WHEN* during the 2 days?[3]

Having as much person of the current board and board elected people
would be nice to have (since the next board is taking office on Feb 12th
after FOSDEM IIRC).

# Who am I ?

During that meeting, you will also get the opportunity to know me
better, my failures (mostly my own) and occasional successes (made
possible mostly thanks to other people's goodwill).

Having read all the mails in all mailing lists for a bunch of years, I
now have a clearer overview of the project as a whole, even if I know I
always get new things to learn :)[4]

When you will get the opportunity to know me in person rather than from
what other people have reported about me, you will see it's not in my
nature to try to be purposely mean to someone, even if the way I
sometimes answer in writing may appear as clumsy/tactless or even
arrogant/harsh. :/

Looking forwards to still be able to serve LibreOffice interests the way
I used to be[5], having joint goals and shared ideals. :)

Regards,

[1] That's not arrogance, but just the eternal optimism I have :)

[2] Unless you don't want me to and want me to leave. In that way, I'll
commit to TDF's decision and quit completely the project meaning
cancelling my membership and stop contributing. Being a dev/sys admin, I
don't like UX stuff wrt. apps :(

[3] Do we have a projector available ?

[4] I'm not new at TDF/LibreOffice. Have been there since the very first
days at the LibO Conf Paris and am active in other communities as well.

[5] Always looking for *clear* guidelines and improvements :)

[libreoffice-marketing] Tips of the week for LibreOfficeFR Twitter account

2019-11-15 Thread William Gathoye
Hello everyone,

I remember having asked the questions back in the days (2016), but as
the answer is now looking out of date, I'm asking it again.

I would like to port on the @LibreOfficeFR, the idea of LibreOffice tips
like what we have on the @LibreOffice account.

Back in the days, the tips were available on our marketing pad. [1] I
don't know whether they are still up to date.

Also do we have the translations (in French) for them? Since tips are
now included in LibreOffice itself, it would be great to take benefit of
this without having to retranslate everything.

Also what tool do you use to auto publish these tips on the English
@LibreOffice twitter account?

Thanks for you answers.

[libreoffice-marketing] LibreOfficeFR has reached a new milestone

2019-08-20 Thread William Gathoye
Hello everyone,

I'm pleased to announce that our LibreOfficeFR Twitter account has
reached a new milestone: 2000 followers :)

This has been quite a long journey since I took back that old account
[1]. The start wasn't that easy and bad reactions towards us were quite
common. Nowadays, things have changed and most of the people we answer
to are launching with us rather than towards us :) Our design team can
be thanked for this, because our new interface played an important role
in this regard.

I am proud to be part of this community and am delighted to contribute
at my level to the rebirth of the French community. We want to grow
higher than the old days of our previous project [2].

Feel free to retweet our announcement [3] :)

Regards,

[1] I'm curious to share the statistics we have with the "official"
@LibreOffice account.

Indeed, what I meant is that they have only been updated recently for
the 6.2 release. This is a great improved compared to the screenshots we
had which were dating from the 2011-2013 area:)

So even if they aren't showcasing much the new MUFFIN (Notebook / tabbed
bar) interface, this is already a good process :-)

Let's wait indeed for 6.3 to have some more MUFFIN related screenshots
then :)

Keep up the good works, congrats :)

These screenshots have been outdated for a longtime, waiting a bit more

Super work Mike, indeed.

Thanks a lot this will definitely help me when having to redirect users

Just a remark though. Would it be possible to do another set of pictures
(even a smaller one) in order to showcase our new tab based interface?
The latter is very much appreciated and when the end user is reticent to
switch to LibreOffice (because too used to use MS Office or for other
reasons), this new interface plays a key role in convincing them [1].

[libreoffice-marketing] Add notes about LibreOffice Vanilla on the TDF/LibreOffice website

2019-03-25 Thread William Gathoye
Hello everyone,

Since we have been the target of fraudsters trying to repackage/resell
LibreOffice (for those who know these kind of issues have been reported
to the board), we are receiving more and more questions wrt. LibreOffice
Vanilla on the Mac App Store. Some people are asking if this is fake or
not.[1] And this is normal and we are proud they are questioning
themselves before downloading. This means our previous campaigns
(tweets) have had some success [2].

While I obviously know the answer to such a question (otherwise I would
be a bad at being a modest community manager for LibreOfficeFR), some
users are reporting this piece of info is quite hard to find especially
as for more internal details, no article has been officially published
(AFAIK) on the TDF/LibreOffice website. What we have if this summary
hosted on Michael's personal blog. [3]

Your thoughts about this? Would it be possible to make it clear on the
website the situation?

Re: [libreoffice-marketing] Re: [libreoffice-design] Re: [libreoffice-projects] Re: LibreOffice Mascot

2017-05-29 Thread William Gathoye
Hello everyone,

On 04/30/2017 02:13 PM, Cor Nouws wrote:
> Sure - it all depends on how the final mascot is designed. That may even

I have seen this topic a few weeks ago and kindly asked Nicolas, my
coworker, who is a graphic designer specialized in advertising content
working for Pixinko, to think to a mascot that could suit LibreOffice needs.

He checked the whole thread to see the propositions you made. However,
he thinks birds should be avoided as most of FOSS software have such a
similar logo and important companies have mail applications whose logo
are basically representing a bird.

So he came up with the idea of "beaver" (castor) [1].

Here are a few advantages for this kind of animal that could match both
LibreOffice vision and the way the LibreOffice community works towards
this project.

* Beavers are ingenious builders who can change the course of rivers.

LibreOffice contributes towards changing mentality and provides an
alternative to the go-to Microsoft's solution.

"Changing the course of rivers" can also be an analogy to build up
dreams. The Document Foundation marks a milestone with this project: the
dream to have a complete independent foundation has come true on
February 17th, 2012, an idea grown from the OOo old ages when Sun was
still the parent/sponsoring company.

* The beaver is a builder who has real power to change his environment,
change the course of things and life.

Quite related to the previous idea, but LibreOffice, more than ever,
can make this happen. LOOL (CODE) has shown great progress.

* Beavers are nibbling wood all day long.

LibreOffice nibbles as well, but market shares. In September 2016,
according to a survey from Collabora[2], LibreOffice reached 120
millions users, which isn't negligible.

* The beaver is small but powerful.

Compared to the work force big companies like Microsoft can put into
practice, despite its size, the LibreOffice community hasn't to blush
from the comparison.

Look at the way TDF forced (in some way) Microsoft to offer the
ability to install Office Web Apps on our own server, just because
Nextcloud + LOOL was a quite powerful free alternative.

* Despite its size, a beaver can modify its living space in depth within
a few days.

Look at the way the LibreOffice project can move things on rapidly. On
the infrastructure size for example. You need more Tinderboxes VM for
deeper tests? This is a task done in a few hours.

* The beaver does not ask questions, he simply acts.

LibreOffice is a meritocratic project. Don't wait for other to fix the
issue for you, just solve it and everyone will benefit from it. This is
the way community and paid developers are working for the project.

* Patient work, but effective.

This took some time to refactor the LibreOffice code, but we can say
this task is mostly behind us now. We can now focus on more interesting
stuff like the UI.

* Trees are the base of paper.

LibreOffice is a tool to craft our paper/letter to our needs, the same
applies for beavers, he craft the tool to his/her needs.

I remember you had a NextCloud instance somewhere for design related
stuffs, but I can't find it any more. This is why I hosted the
propositions to my Google Drive account [3].

Please note the possibilities are endless, the eyes from proposition 5
can be mixed with the pencil from proposition 4 for example.

I'm waiting for your reviews.

If you have any questions wrt. communication and advertising or need
more explanation towards the choices regarding this animal, I'll let my
coworker, Nicolas, answer as this is basically his job :)

Looking forward to see a work designed by Pixinko used by such a big
open source community :)

Not to undervalue Pierre's work, but according to the advertisers and marketing
specialists I have here in the company I'm working, a 3 folds brochure like this
with so much text in it is likely not to be read. Except maybe by nerds, but
end-users won't, if we have to distribute such brochures outside IT conferences.

Also according to the feedback they have, I wonder if a brochure is the best
format. Maybe flyers would fit better and would be cheaper to print. When
printed the text on Pierre's work is rather big, reducing it would allow us to
reduce paper size and cost.

I think LibreOffice needs a consistent and greatly designed marketing campaign
across languages about its flyers. Providing the same consistent brochure/flyer
in different languages for UK, DE, NL and FR would reinforce our branding.

Do you need a ballpark about the price or the number of brochures/flyers you
need?

If this is about the price, read on.

Here in the company, we need at least 1.250 prints (lower than excepted) in
order for us to have preferential prices.

Based on Pierre's work, for A4 colourful brochures (recto verso) with 2 folds
(already folded), printed on 135gr glossy paper (traditional paper for printer
are 80gr so this is a great improvement compared to the brochure we have now) +
free redesign from Pixin'ko with sources is 319€ (VAT excluded). (372€ for 2.5k
prints). Lowering the price is possible if we play with paper quality and print
delays. If after compression, you find it still too expensive, like I said,
co-partnership is possible with our small mentioned logo below the
flyer/brochure.
But for Brussels, we will need to have the final version before end of week in
order to have them printed before 24th April.

If you need to order as a company, or in the name of TDF, I don't think you need
to add VAT, because this basically consists in intracom exchanges. The delivery
price depends on the location where we need to send the package.

Re: [libreoffice-marketing] Fwd: contact LO Belgium-fr ?

2015-04-14 Thread William Gathoye
Hi everyone,

I already answered Cor tonight, please thus find hereby an inline copy of my
answer.

 Hi Cor,

 Thanks for the forward.

 Dear Agnez,

Unfortunately I'm in internship until the end of May, I cannot so participate
 in
his event, but can help indirectly.

Marketing material for LibreOffice is quite absent, this is even more true for
French[1] and a fortiori for Belgium[2]. Gonna ask the French team on
#libreoffice-fr on IRC if they have material to give away. I have my self
bookmarked some contents for free formats, etc.

I think particularly to this content [3] made available by arc, another ASBL.
While the document looks fine it is way from being complete. I made some
suggestions to the author on Twitter [4], but he never found the time to
 implement them.

But yes, we need well designed French marketing content. It's on my to do list
but on very low priority for now.

You can also send en email to one of the French mailing lists. Maybe they have
 more suggestions to make[5].

 Hope this helps.

Regarding the Brochure d'information générale (ODT). I think the content is
really great but is really looking outdated. Ask mentioned in the aforementioned
mail, I'm gonna ask if some designers I have at work can provide some lifting.

Regards,

 Hello William,
thanks for asking the French team !
It's surprising that there is no info material in french, I had the
impression that libreOffice is quite visible. But probably I have never
 come across anything in French..

Maybe, if I could find a volunteer to translate, would you have a source
file for a flyer in English or Dutch ? Cor, maybe you have the file of
the paper you handed out at FOSDEM ? I think it's really worth a try to
have some info material, as libreOffice should be installed at any
 association ;)
We don't really have a budget for printing, but I'll try to do a minimum
 somehow...

I think the analysis by Arc is very useful for the public we want to
attend. Thanks for pointing me to it.

 Best
 Agnez

As Charles pointed out, we have a French brochure available from [1] and called
Brochure d'information générale. It's basically an ODT file and is already
translated into French.

How much printed versions do you need? The company I'm in as an intern could
provide a redesigned version and print it too if you want, but this is
unfortunately not for free. If a small logo of the company could be put below
the paper, I can have a discount price.

@TDF, @Charles

Do you need new designed brochure even for the FOSDEM next year? If you need 2K
pieces, the branding material will be returned to you in a modifiable version.

Regards

Great. Keep me informed. Read below for more details.

Little precision needed before I ask the others : which is the company

The company I'm working in as an intern is called Pixin'ko [1], this is the same
structure which is editing StudentGo[2][3], a social network for student
looking a first job/internship in relation to their studies. We already made a
win-win tweet, as reminder[5].

As you can see on their website[1], Pixin'Ko is in charge of graphical
development and has great narrow partners with local printers in order to
compress prices, but by still providing excellent quality.

If you know the TEDx conferences, Pixin'ko developed the brochure[4] and
graphical dev for the last event held in Liege, Belgium.

For LibreOffice, the graphical development will be free, but *only if* TDF needs
2000 brochures.

If you want to compress the price, which will depend on the format/print quality
you want, Pixin'ko can make a discount if the logo you can find at the centre of
their website[1], is printed below the brochure as a small strip.
You can get an even greater reduction if, still based on this paper [6], one of
the 6 vertical column contents makes advertising for Pixin'ko.

As you are advertised there as Robert Buj, could you keep that
naming consistent in the whole LibreOffice infrastructure?

In your mails you are known as Robert Antoni and on gerrit [2] as

you therefore reconfigure your mail client, and ask a rename for
Gerrit. AFAIK, this is possible on Gerrit but require admin privileges.

Hi *,

I've just finished writing the fourth LOWN edition. [1]

Comments are, as always, welcome.

As I wrote in the introduction, I still need to catch up +700 mails
(most are technical dev oriented) and summarize the slides/videos from
the LibreOffice conference for LOWN 5.

If you get involved at the conference and had a talk there, please
provide your slides on your blog (if you have any) or any social
network. I'm following the most influential on each social networks,
if you published your slides there, I will find them. ;-)

As a reminder, if you have suggestions of topics non mentioned in the
mailing lists, do not hesitate to put a note in the next issue [2].
LOWN basically consists in writing a summary which could be reused:
* for the annual report The Document Foundation has to provide to
German authorities,
* by the marketing team;
* and also by IT news like NextInpact, Phoronix, etc if they want to
cover LibreOffice development.

 on the mailing list.

yes the cron job here would indeed be very useful.

I'll execute the cron on Sunday evening, in that way contributors can
review the subjects if needed, and correct my poor English ;-)

The WordPress publication should be made on Sunday too, to keep
consistency.

I don't like the Wordpress idea: more difficult to make LOWN a

AFAIK LibreOffice infrastructure doesn't have a Wordpress instance.

I found a latex to wiki converter: pandoc. It is actually a swiss-army

Ok for the wiki. Regarding the reference extension we talked about[1].
It is available with the Cite extension which is ALREADY installed
on our Wiki instance[2]. ;-) Thanks Sophi for the hint.

On my side, I would still be able to use LaTeX since I've found an
extension to convert LaTeX to MediaWiki syntax: pandoc[3] or another I
still need to test which consists of using Vim directly from the Wiki
[4];-)

Regarding the 3 different interfaces, I'm not an expert regarding CMS.
(Didn't know what lxer was about, now I know ;-) )
But Pandoc could still come in handy this time, use whatever CMS you
want and we will still be able to convert the syntax.
Let's reuse the existent, no need to create a WordPress instance if
the TDF hasn't one already; is Plone not able to handle such a use case?
Or maybe, we could reuse the TDF blog [5]?

 platform (https://redmine.documentfoundation.org/issues/400)
As I understand correctly, Planet is just a blog aggregator and cannot
be used as a host for LOWN.

This being said, there could be other options but we have to at
 least list our needs first.

As you said, we have to provide 2 LOWN versions: a web one and a text
based for the MLs.

Let's thus define our needs by considering this situation:

- - We use the wiki where we will put our full web version: allowing
contribution from the whole community.

My question: Where are we gonna upload the images/screenshots (if any
article needs illustration?): on Owncloud or on the wiki itself? This
could have issues for next steps.

- - Use a cron to export the web version each week from the wiki to the
TDF Wordpress.

Do we need to use absolute links to the images (hosted on Owncloud or
the wiki itself?) or do we need to reupload the images on the
wordpress instance?

Maybe I could have a look how to implement such a cron using PHP with
MediaWiki [1] and WordPress [2].

- - Use a cron to extract the text version from the wiki and post it on
the mailing list.

This is what I thought. It's really a pitty our Twitter accounts are
so much disparate. Like MS Office does, we should federate around a
only account.

The situation is even more favorable as Twitter, with its new
profiles, is now separating standard tweets from answer to tweets.
I think the @AskLibreOffice was created for that reason: boths types
of tweets were mixed. This account has now lost its main purpose. But
now it is well implemented, we should keep it.

Also I see that communities accounts have not consistent names:

Hi guys.

I'm a silent LibreOffice contributor/advocate since the beginning of
the project. I'm an IT student from Belgium, currently finishing a
computer science bachelor degree.

I know most of the LibO team (I can put easily names on figures) as I
attended the first LibO conf in Paris [1] and FOSDEM each year.

Also, I subscribed most LibO mailing lists and I usually take the time
to read ALL the messages posted there ;-)

Now, I'm gonna stop to hide in my bush and be more active in this
community. I mean don't hesitate to post when I've an idea / found a
bug, etc and apply to be part of the Membership Committee [2].

See you soon on IRC/ML/Twitter/G+ ;-)

[libreoffice-marketing] Please tweet about Hybrid PDF + several Twitter account managers

2014-06-07 Thread William Gathoye
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi guys.

I'm back [1].

Since the exam period started a few weeks ago, I see a lot of students
complaining on social networks about the eternal DOCX/ODF format
interroperability problem. Indeed, students (I'm still one) usually
share course summaries between them. One of their solution would be to
use Hybrid PDF [2]. It's unfortunate that community managers haven't
tweeted about it.

I know Charles is still the main @tdforg and @libreoffice maintainer,
and @asklibreoffice has a new maintainer since a few months [3].
Sometimes it can become rather difficult to manage all social networks.

As explained in my previous mail, I follow the LibO community since
the beginning, read most ML messages, and I sometimes tweet myself
about LibO [4]. I'm able to put some tweets in the name of
LibreOffice. If you need me, I'm there.

I'm not asking to become a full time community manager, but be part of
the team. AFAIK, Twitter doesn't still allow to have several
maintainers for a corporate account. In that usecase, only one email
address is allowed.

I don't know how you are managing such a limitation, but having
several community managers on a single Twitter account is possible. It
would be nice to have a kind of mailing list, Twitter community
managers will subscribe. In that way, all community managers will
receive a notification and not only the one manager like it currently is.
