[MCN-L] National Digital Forum (NDF) conference 2019 Call for presentations is open!
Kia ora koutou (greetings) The call for presentations for the National Digital Forum Conference (18-20 November 2019, Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, Wellington, NZ) is open! We want to hear from people working in, and with, digital on any topic affecting the culture and heritage sector. Think big picture – does your digital practice inform, influence or touch the GLAM sector? Then let us know! The timid ideas and the bold, the everyday and the unusual – the community that supports NDF is evolving and we’d like to reflect that evolution in the kinds of presentations we have at the conference. We’d also like to make sure that the content at the conference is as fresh as possible, so don’t worry if you have an idea that’s half-formed, or a project that’s not yet completed – if it’s digital and it’s GLAM, we’d love to hear from you. NDF is committed to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and we welcome all perspectives that explore what this means in relation to digital work in the GLAM sector and beyond. If you need help getting your synapses sparking, take a look our 2018 programme (https://ndf2018.sched.com/) and the past talks on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/user/NDFNZ/playlists). Previous years have included topics such as online collection building, participatory archive development, inclusive practice, evaluation, preserving our digital lives and developing resources for learning in a digital age. We will also be running pre-conference workshops on Monday 18 November. Please get in touch if you have an idea for those. Information on NDF, and on submitting is here here http://www.ndf.org.nz/call-for-presentations **Deadline for proposals is 24 May 2019** Please feel free to email the conference committee at confere...@ndf.org.nz if you would like to discuss your proposal prior to submitting. Re: [MCN-L] LAM interoperability SIG?
Hi Stephano I'd be interested in following the discussion from afar (NZ). You might also be interested in the work of the National Digital Forum here in NZ. For over 10 years it's been bringing GLAMs (we add a G for Galleries) together to talk all things digital, audience, engagement etc. The site is here http://www.ndf.org.nz/ and there are videos of presentations from past conferences here https://www.youtube.com/user/NDFNZ. The main output is a conference, but there is skill sharing, regional barcamps etc as well. I guess being a small country is a bit easier to get past sector barriers, but we seem to play together pretty well. I have to say, if you can swing some international travel, I HIGHLY recommend the conference. It's usually Oct/Nov. Cheers Adrian Kingston Digital Collections Senior Analyst Collections Information Services Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa -Original Message- From: mcn-l-boun...@mcn.edu [mailto:mcn-l-boun...@mcn.edu] On Behalf Of Stefano Cossu Sent: Tuesday, 17 November 2015 7:12 a.m. To: mcn-l@mcn.edu Cc: Niki Krause; David Wilcox Subject: [MCN-L] LAM interoperability SIG? Hello, It was exciting to host a lively conversation at the last MCN conference about Libraries, Archives and Museums (topics: [1]; slides: [2]). I am happy to see that many colleagues are interested in tearing down the barriers between bibliographical, archival and collection records within museums, as well as promoting the exchange of information and technologies between Cultural Heritage institutions. I think the session sparked quite some interest and raised important topics from many of the participants. I also believe that this conversation needs to be brought forward. This mailing list may be a good place to follow up that conversation. I would love to propose a similar session for next MCN, actually even closer to a round-table discussion than to a panel. If enough people are interested, I would also propose to create a special interest group for this topic. Goal of the SIG would be torefine the core topics that we brought up at the conference using this mailing list, and then meet in person at the next MCN with a distilled down list of action items. Anyone interested in this proposal is welcome to respond. [MCN-L] Quick survey on
Hi all Just over a year ago Te Papa released over 3 images (now over 48,000) for high resolution download under No Known Copyright Restrictions statement or a CC BY-ND-NC licence. We are doing a decent analysis of the impact of the release, and would really like some benchmark data. If you have followed a similar path (bigger or smaller) would you be willing to offer quick answers to a few questions? I well know answering these types of questions can be time consuming, so I'd be happy with whatever you are able to provide. Even better, if you've already done some analysis you can send/point me to, that'd be cool too! Feel free to respond on or off-list (adrian.kings...@tepapa.govt.nz) - When do you first launch your open access images? - How many collection objects do you have online? - How many collection images do you have online? - How many images did you make available for download? - Can you break down images per licence (e.g. 2000k at CC, etc)? - How many downloads did you have in the first 12 months? - Do you have any other metrics that might be useful to understand the impact of your project? - Do you have any key examples of uses/stories/impact about the release you would like to share? - Are you willing to share any information on (positive or otherwise) commercial activities? [MCN-L] Collection % cataloguing benchmarks
Hi all. I know there are lots of hooks around what qualifies as cataloguing, what a record is versus an object and even how to measure the size of a collection, but can anyone point be to some recent benchmarks/surveys/comparisons of percentage of collections databased (jeebus I hate that word). Asking for a friend. Well, actually, asking for our Assurance and Risk Committee. Museums Aotearoa include it in their annual survey http://www.museumsaotearoa.org.nz/research#SectorSurvey, but I'm looking for other institutions that are similar to Te Papa in terms of collections size (eg circa 2-3 million items) and/or similar collections scope (we have the full gamut: the national art collections, as well as, natural science, human history, archives, photography etc) Any help would be great!
