[MBZ] Vacuum amplifier

2007-05-03 Thread Eric Anderton

On my 85 300D T recently when the engine is to temperature the
transmission has started shifting like it has a lack of vacuum. It
goes from really nice responsive smooth shifting to real clunky
sluggish shifts. I have hooked up my mity vac and the modulator on the
transmission holds vacuum. The blue amplifier that the modular runs
off of however does not. What are some things I could look at to
narrow this down a little? I really do not seem to have a vac leak.
Can the blue amplifier go bad? how would I test this?
Many Thanks.

type toyota land cruiser mercedes diesel in google and you get as the

3.9-liter and the Land Cruiser finally received low-range gearing. The

Last I knew (about five years ago) you could get a Cummins
in the midsize trucks (like the F550).
The minor problems with the 7.3L Powerstroke were Ford's fault,
mainly for cheapening the fuel plumbing. Problems with the early
6.0 Powerstroke were more serious, and I have no idea if they were
systemic or limited to the Ford trucks. The 6.4L problems are news
to me, but whatever the problem is, it doesn't surprise me. I think
Dodge/Cummins is the only diesel pickup without a history of teething
problems every time they upgrade the engine.

The 7.3 problems were ford's fault. The 6.0 problems also surprisingly
didn't exist in the VT365 when put in an international truck. Don't know
about the 6.4 problems, though the only problems I've heard of from them
is that some of them shoot flames out the tailpipe (which isn't a surprise
if you know how the exhaust works, the ford just seems a teense overagressive).

Not really. The allison GM put behind the duramax is not the same rugged
allison that his big trucks get. It's a far lighter duty transmission, and
it's really not leaps and bounds above the others.

FWIW, the dodges have a six speed auto from aisin warner now that is supposed
to be quite nice to drive with. Who knows how they'll hold up, but dodge is
planning on using them in the ram 4500 and 5500 lines.

It's also worth pointing out that the best medium duty truck engine out there
hands down isn't a duramax, isn't a cummins, isn't a cat, isn't a detroit,
and isn't a mercedes - it's the DT466, and you can guess who builds it.

Re: [MBZ] OT: Mercedes diesel swap into Toyota FJ-40?

2007-05-03 Thread Curt Raymond

I'd have thought they'd have used Toyota diesels. They look similar though, I
wonder if somebody saw a Toyota diesel and thought it was from a Mercedes.

I bet a 617 would work out well. The original I6 wasn't a super powerhouse...

If I were going to do it I'd use a 4BT Cummins though.

According to this[1] page, Toyota used Mercedes diesels in some of
their Land Cruisers.

Anyone know how difficult such a swap would be? Or what motor they
used? There is an old Land Cruiser locally with a supposedly bad
engine.

Can I add the third row seat to any TD? Does anyone have one with
seatbelts
and hardware they would like to part with? The wagon I found is brown
with

a tanish interior, kinda yellowy tanIs that palomino? I'm not real
picky on color as long as it's in decent shape. I need to get something
that will haul all of us(7) and get decent mileage. Gas and diesel are
killing me at $3.12 a gallon and only getting 7-8 and 12 MPG.

My new truck is down at the shop, tranny leak, was loosing some coolant,

dip stick tube, was building pressure blowing fluid out, no big deal.
Coolant leak they said was the turbo coolant line something or other,
and the front end is idler arm and pitman arm. Anyway, the coolant line
and front end stuff doesnt seem to be covered by the warranty. In the
contract, it says the radius arm and bushings are covered, but doesnt
list idler and pitman arm. Isnt a radius arm the same thing as an
idler/pitman arm?
