Re: [MBZ] Bouncy speedo needle and wonky cruise in the 300TE
Looks like I had a win here, finally got around to stripping the coating off and doing a bit of soldering. Big thanks to Jim and others who gave advice, it was spot on. It took two coatings of paint stripper (I found a citrus based one at my local paint place) and used a round wire brush mounted in my big drill at very slow speed. Attached the drill to a workbench and then carefully went over the board till it was all clean. I do know how to solder pretty well and managed to get it going first pass. However to do this I would recommend a good soldering iron and a bit of soldering experience, someone doing this as their first soldering job with a cheap iron is asking for trouble. Good lighting and turning the board to get best access to the solder joints is also essential, some of the solders are very close together. I also found some of the tails of the electrical bits where bent over and a bit long, pays to straighten them out and chop a bit off. I bailed a buddy out on a DUI, there was some scheduling issue between his lawyer and the courts and he was a no show for the first hearing. This was all worked out but I made the mistake of listing my parents on the form. These jackholes had the GALL to call my MOTHER at 3am in the morning, when I complained about it they got "hardcore" and threatened to break down the door at my parents house. I told them to feel free to my mom is a shotgun wielding granny and I know plenty of good lawyers. Buncha asshats. Re: [MBZ] i see 4 buck a gallon diesel,, etc.
The bugs had filters. It was the filter screen at the bottom of the pan. And you'd be suprised at the stuff they would trap. Earlier Mercedes diesels (pre 1976) used the same system. They had an oil screen in the filter housing. The drop in filter was a bypass filter that only filtered a small percentage of the oil and every bit of the engine lube oil went through the plastic filter screen. Re: [MBZ] i see 4 buck a gallon diesel,, etc.
My Wife got a little concerned when I put my new 1972 220D starter ring in the oven & the flywheel in the freezer. Then I placed the "frozen" flywheel on a towel on the kitchen floor & dropped the "well done" ring right onto the flywheel. Just make sure you don't put the starter ring on upside down - you only have one chance to get it right. Re: [MBZ] "California Coupes"
Andrew, A ways back at a GWS Concours & Picnic, we had someone show a factory delivered W113 California Coupe, which caused some consternation about how to judge the car since there were no top to which points could be assigned. Owner had brought the window sticker identifying it with "No soft top" or words to that effect. Frankly, I don't remember how it was resolved. Marketing maybe, but was a nice car. A friend was a service writer at a large VW dealership. "Mr. Picky" dropped his car off for 300 mile oil change. My friend went out and noted a piece of kite string tied from bumper to fence. Oil Changed, car retied to fence. My Picky comes in and pays bill. Goes to get car and comes back spouting like a beached whale, he's been defrauded! My friend shows him a note on bottom of service order: "Check Parking Brake, car needs to be tied up when parked". Re: [MBZ] "California Coupes"
Glenn, Not quite true. On the SLs, specifically the 113, a California coupe will NOT have a soft top. I have never come across a r107 without a soft top from the factory. WRT to w107s, the SLC, I have never heard of these officially termed as California coupes and believe such reference to be incorrect. Rusty - My nephew [Rob Ringgold] might be calling from Pulidos in Jacksonville. I have been telling him you have good prices and know MB's. Re: [MBZ] i see 4 buck a gallon diesel,, etc.
I worked as a mechanics apprentice in the late 60s - I worked with a trained mechanic and we got pretty fast at some jobs - One day we wanted to see how fast we could change a throw-out bearing. From the time the car rolled onto the ramp to the time the engine started to drive out again was 8 minutes. We pulled the engine, replaced the T-O bearing and put the engine back in. We regularily were pretty fast at doing the X mile services. This became a problem when a customer saw his car disappear into the garage then come out again after 10 minutes or so. The customer would think he was not getting the service his money was paying for so we started to park the cars in a courtyard behind the shop for 1/2 hour or more before taking the car back out. This way the mechanic got his extra money for doing the job fast and the customer was happy. ;-) Larry T (66 MGB, 74 911, 91 300D) www.youroil.net for Oil Analysis and Weber Parts Test Results http://members.rennlist.com/oil PORSCHE POSTERS! youroil.net Weber Carb Info http://members.rennlist.com/webercarbs - Original Message - From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Mercedes Discussion List" Sent: Tuesday, March 18, 2008 1:43 PM Subject: Re: [MBZ] i see 4 buck a gallon diesel,, etc. > Well, I couldn't do that ! If the 'fan' will run off of 'Triaced' Juice you might get away with some sort of calibration procedure. Using a decent meter (I recommend TRU-RMS like a Fluke 87 or equlivant) hook up the lamp with fan to the triac type dimmer directly and gradually increase (via DMX) until you get a reading of about 82V, at the lamp which the fan will need to tolerate. Note the DMX setting and don't exceed it. .. Re: [MBZ] Near 4 Dollar Diesel Here in Dallas
George, If I recall from my reading on a biodiesel list. Someone there said that the best blend would be right around 20% as that would add the lubricity that the ULSD now lacks and he had found that he got the best mileage from that mix. I believe his theory was that that much bioD add some oxygen to the combustion process and so burned the dinoD better. More or less BioD and he found the mileage was reduced. What he did not specify was how he got his figures. If I could get 20% around here I would use it just for the lubricity factor. I don't know how much 5% would improve that but my guess would be a lot less. Manfred "More is better" Date: Mon, 17 Mar 2008 15:18:49 -0500 From: "George Larribeau" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [MBZ] Near 4 Dollar Diesel Here in Dallas To: "Mercedes Discussion List" Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" The web site dallasgasprices.com still lists a station in Allen at 3.69, may or may not be the true price. Any way that would be about 20 - 25 mile trip in the wrong direction for me (each way). There are still some at about 3.82 to 3.89 around town, at leas today. Good luck next week. However right by my house at north Buckner and Northcliff a defunct small gas station has reopened and is now called something like the green spot. I bought 5% bio blend there for 3.79 / gallon. Have never used that before. They also sell some kind of straight bo diesel from an above ground tank. B99 ?? Do not know what the price is. This in my experience is a bit unusual for Dallas. I talked with the owner for about 10 minutes, interesting guy. I wish him luck and hope he can sustain his business. I think he also sells organic snacks / food. I have never dabbled in bio before but 5% is just kind of a 'sales gimmick right? My neighbor's son has a 300TD wagon that he run SVO in. (It has a lot of extra plumbing on it with the Aussi heater block). I ask to see what he thinks of it.
