Re: [MBZ] Veggie Oil And Bio Fuel users - Words of Caution

2008-06-12 Thread slozukimc

I'm betting the ratio will be three Roosa Masters per engine, but I could
be wrong, maybe the pump likes the lubricity.

Careful there, with names like that you may be showing your ageLOL

That could get very pricey in a big hurry. I am also not just running a
blend. I have a homemade coolant heated fuel filter setup as well as 2
homemade inline electric fuel heaters. The blend is just a little
insurance policy so that i don't accidentally grenade a pump with oil that
is too thick.
The filter assy. brings the fuel to 140F, the first electric heater is
in the loop so it helps heat the entire tank of fuel along with the
filter. The second is just before the injector pump and heats to a max
of 180F at idle. I still need more heat to run straight WVO well so i
am going to insulate and heat the fuel tank and lines as well.
I am also looking at using 4-6 inches of NiChrome wire to make
individual injector line heaters so as to allow cold starts on WVO.
Another benefit is that, contrary to popular belief, WVO actually needs
to be around 300F at the injector in order to get good atomization of
the fuel and a clean burn. The injector pumps like the fuel to be
around 160-180 or so to work correctly. So, logically, the only thing
to do is to heat the injector lines.

I'd say it could be a pinched wire from the new harness that is
grounding and causing a short. Sounds like annoying traceback time.

You'll have to run the length of the entire harness and check for
faults. Tedious.

[MBZ] Sherriff Joe

2008-06-12 Thread Archer

Sheriff Joe is at it again!!

You all remember Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Arizona , who painted
the jail cells pink and made the inmates wear pink prison garb. Well.

SHERIFF JOE IS AT IT AGAIN!

Oh, there's MUCH more to know about Sheriff Joe!

Maricopa County was spending approx. $18 million dollars a
year on stray animals, like cats and dogs. Sheriff Joe offered to take the
department over, and the County Supervisors said okay.

The animal shelters are now all staffed and operated by
prisoners. They feed and care for the strays. Every animal in his care is taken
out and walked twice daily. He now has prisoners who are experts in animal
nutrition and behavior. They give great classes for anyone who'd like to adopt
an animal. He has literally taken stray dogs off the street, given them to the
care of prisoners, and had them place in dog shows.

The best part? His budget for the entire department is now
under $3 million. Teresa and I adopted a Weimaraner from a Maricopa County
shelter two years ago. He was neutered, and current on all shots, in great
health, and even had a microchip inserted the day we got him. Cost us $78.
The prisoners get the benefit of about $0.28 an hour for
working, but most would work for free, just to be out of their cells for the
day. Most of his budget is for utilities, building maintenance, etc. He pays
the prisoners out of the fees collected for adopted animals.

I have long wondered when the rest of the country would take
a look at the way he runs the jail system, and copy some of his ideas. He has a
huge farm, donated to the county years ago, where inmates can work, and they
grow most of their own fresh vegetables and food, doing all the work and
harvesting by hand. He has a pretty good sized hog farm, which provides meat,
and fertilizer. It fertilizes the Christmas tree nursery, where prisoners work,
and you can buy a living Christmas tree for $6 - $8 for the Holidays, and plant
it later. We have six trees in our yard from the Prison.

Yup, he was reelected last year with 83% of the vote.
Now he's in trouble with the ACLU again. He painted all his
buses and vehicles with a mural, that has a special hotline phone number
painted on it, where you can call and report suspected illegal aliens.
Immigrations and Customs Enforcement wasn't doing enough in his eyes, so he had
40 deputies trained specifically for enforcing immigration laws, started up his
hotline, and bought 4 new buses just for hauling folks back to the border. He's
kind of a 'Git-R Dun' kind of Sheriff.

TO THOSE OF YOU NOT FAMILIAR WITH JOE ARPAIO

HE IS THE MARICOPA ARIZONA COUNTY SHERIFF

AND HE KEEPS GETTING ELECTED OVER AND OVER
THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY:

Sheriff Joe Arpaio (In Arizona ) who created the ' Tent City
Jail':
He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the
inmates for them.

He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails. Took
away their weights Cut off all but 'G' movies.

He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on
county and city projects.

Then He Started Chain Gangs For Women So He Wouldn't Get
  Sued For Discrimination.

He took away cable TV Until he found out there was A Federal
Court Order that Required Cable TV For Jails So He Hooked Up The Cable TV Again
Only Let In The Disney Channel And The Weather Channel.

When asked why the weather channel He Replied, So They Will
Know How Hot It's Gonna Be While They Are Working
  ON My Chain Gangs.

He Cut Off Coffee Since It Has Zero Nutritional Value.

When the inmates complained, he told them, 'This Isn't The
Ritz/Carlton.If You Don't Like It, Don't Come Back.'

He bought Newt Gingrich's lecture series on videotape that he
pipes into the jails.

When asked by a reporter if he had any lecture series by a
Democrat, he replied that a democratic lecture series might explain why a lot
of the inmates were in his jails in the first place.

Re: [MBZ] 94 C280, W-202 - Electrical Problem

2008-06-12 Thread Jim Cathey
We are constantly blowing fuse # 26 (7.5 amp) in the front fuse box
but there are no codes in the computer. When that fuse blows we lose
a number of electrical functions that are located in the trunk fuse
box including sunroof, windows and seats. The Indie has replaced the
relay in that circuit and the control unit (computer) in the trunk at
different times but neither replacement has solved the problem. We
have not been able to duplicate the surge that causes the 7.5 amp fuse
to blow while testing nor can we reduce it to any of the circuits that
fail in the rear fuse box when fuse # 26 fails up front. All of the
rear fuse box circuits that fail have greater value fuses that the
failed # 26 7.5 amp fuse up front.

#26 is the entire source of power for the rear box? Temporarily (!!!)
replace #26 with a 10A, and replace all the rear fuses with the 7.5A
ones. See what blows.

It will probably come down to a rubber-glove exam of the power
consumer circuits. With any luck the above diagnostic step will
at least narrow down which one of many to chase.

are not oxidized, and that the screw connectors (on back)

There's gotta be a relay or something involved. (or maybe the 7A carries
the trigger current for a relay that carries the current to the rear fusebox)
You can't run a subpanel full of 10A fuses off one 7A fuse, not even Jaguar
would try to do that.

How stringent is that smog check? I wouldn't be surprised if it were 5x
or 10x the emissions allowed for a brand new car of that vintage. Seems
like a perfect running euro car might pass the test.
When they were gray market importing the new cars in the 1980s, the conversion
costs were really
something unless they could just replace every related part with US certified
parts, because meeting
current year new car standards is never easy without having a major car

99% of married men live in stage 2.

If that is true it is sad, because it is so easy to be happy [well, it does
take a team effort.]
That is another choice you get to make. It's been a few years since I have
done any marriage counseling, but look at it this way:
- success leads to good feelings about ourselves and satisfaction [some of
the keys to being happy]
- happiness is a byproduct of satisfaction, and the most direct way to be
happy is by getting others to be happy [I know, I know, but this is the
simplified version]
- make your goal to make your spouse happy and that leads to you both being
happy, with lots of side benefits.
At some point the rocks in her head fit the holes in yours so you got
together. Excepting some serious defrauding as to the reasons you got
together, you can be happy [again.] I expend a bit less energy keeping my
darling wife happy as I did when we were dating, and the same attitudes now
serve to make marriage what I want it to be. I am truly happy; IMHO almost
anyone can be.
End of speech [gets down off soapbox].

[MBZ] 240D killed, but lots of parts available

2008-06-12 Thread Kevin Slater
During the winter I had a mechanical problem with the engine in our beloved
1979 240D. (I still haven't gotten to the bottom of it or exactly what
happened.) In any case the engine won't spin and with the current price of
diesel I have little interest in trying to bring it back from the dead.

The car has a number of good parts on it. I hate to send the car to the
crusher, especially because there is so much good sheet metal on it, but I
need to move it off the driveway. If there is anything you want from it, let
me know. The automatic transmission and the differential are in top shape,
it has all manual controls for A/C of course. A/C hasn't worked in a while
and neither does the cruisecontrol. All the glass is intact but either the
front or read window has a seal leak. The interior isn't in great shape, but
the instrument cluster is good.

Car is located 20 miles north of Pittsburgh in Mars, PA if anyone is
interested in the whole chassis.

Re: [MBZ] The New World Order (WAS june 4, 1944)

2008-06-12 Thread LarryT
Hi Bill.,
;-) Trust me, given a little time I could crank out 2000 words on the
assault on religion in this country - from the strangly interpreted
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or
prohibiting the free exercise thereof; to the presently accepted view of
Complete Seperation of church and state which is being intrepreted as a
complete divestiture of any mention of God or religion when it comes to
govt. I (who knew) have a different viewpoint - that being the framers of
the Constitution meant exactly what they wrote!

And of course, we must wonder why is it acceptable to teach school children
about the muslim culture but teaching the same about Christian culture would
bring down the wrath of the ACLU. It used to be college freshmen entered
college as Christians and graduated as atheists after their professors'
skewed agenda to make them question all values of their parents and
religion. Since Christianity is based on *faith* it's not difficult to
change someone who may be susceptible to change and make them question that
faith because there is no proof when it comes to faith.

If God were to appear in the sky one day and say, Look at me - I'm here
I'm real, and you'd better be good if you want everlasting life! we would
lose all free will - we would have to believe - no more freedom of choice
would exist. God expects more of us - and of course, we're capable of more.

But I'm sure no one wants another lengthy dissertation from me --

Another attack comes in the huge increase on the dependence on various
govt departments for income and/or support of various kinds. The number
 of
people who get paid by the govt has exceeded 50% - this creates a
 continuous
 dependence on govt for finances.

Also there is an effort by the MSM to create an environment where
self-dependance is frowned upon. It is very evident in UK already where
anything that might be used for defense against criminals are outlawed.
People are not expected to defend themselves and by extension should not
 be
self sufficient in other areas of life. Depend on the govt for finances,
defense of self and property (dial 911) and place all other needs in the
 hands of the govt.

Finally (probably not - I'm surely forgetting something) there's the
environmenal movement. What started as a noble thing has become a thorn
 in
the side of American economics. As more animals, fish, flowers, etc and
their habitate become protected the more land we lose to use as we wish.
Even homeowners are prevented from developing their property as they want
due to govt environmentally driven regulations (think wetlands - which we
used to call swamps). This is a huge topic as it potentially puts a
 weight
around the neck of so many capitalist activities forcing a slow-down in
 our
economic system which in-turn reduces our standard of living, and on and
 on.
The environmental movement has even taken their agenda into darkest
 Africa.
Developers wanted to build a power plant so people could have running
 water
in their homes (or huts, whatever) because power is needed to power well
 pumps. Without

How stringent is that smog check? I wouldn't be surprised if it were 5x
or 10x the emissions allowed for a brand new car of that vintage. Seems
like a perfect running euro car might pass the test.

Good question, but I'd guess not very stringent. My '80 Euro 280SLC
passed just fine. The problem I had registering it in Oregon was with
the visual inspection for functioning emissions equipment part of
the test, wherein the state employees claimed that since a USA-spec
450SLC of the same year was built with catalytic converters, mine
should have them too (and that since it didn't have any, ipso facto I
must have removed them myself in violation of Federal and state law).

When they were gray market importing the new cars in the 1980s, the
 conversion costs were really
something unless they could just replace every related part with US certified
 parts, because meeting
current year new car standards is never easy without having a major car
 company's RD budget.

Or unless they faked it. Don't know how common it really was, but
there were plenty of stories back in the heyday of the gray market
about catalytic converters with nothing inside and side-impact beams
made of PVC pipe.

If wife had did it, the question probably would have had a few obscenities in
it.

Actually, I took my two daughters, a friend and his Siberian Husky on a 2,498
mile (round trip) drive...friend and Husky were only there for half the trip,
dropped them off in Scranton - anyway, Nanook the Husky was making me very
nervous about the shifter and friend piped up that his old Festiva would not go
into reverse when going forward. HENCE, the question. (yes, we all fit nicely
in the SD).

diesel fuel, said an EPA spokeswoman, so selling the stuff is also an
offense, though giving it away does not appear to be regulated at the
 federal level.

Finally got around to figuring out why my '83 300D door locks don't work
-- one of the rigid plastic lines is cracked where it passes from the
 body into the driver's door.

I'm now wondering if other cracked lines could be causing my
intermittent (but increasing) problems with brake boost and engine
shut-off. The door circuit is disconnected currently, and plugged.

Are these rigid lines prone to failure after a certain age? Are new
ones available/should I consider replacing all of them, or just as
 needed?

but Brunnhilde is a 79 300TD. This appears to be catastrophic failure.
Car was starting fine, go out the other morning, no glowee, no startee.
Glow plug fuse OK, no voltage to it. Looking through the maint manual it
appears it must be the relay. The manual tells me how to check it out,
but not which of those boxes below the dash it is. I am assuming it is
one of the silver metal boxes, but there are two, and a couple of black
plastic ones. If I knew which it was I can go check it without having to
take them all out to see.

Gotta go with WOnko on this one - many engineers - esp mech and chem Es make
more than lawyers. The problem is too many lawyers and not enuf engineers -

I worked as a project controls engineer for nearly 40 years - got to the
position of Planning, Scheduling and Cost Control Engineering Manager for
a multi-billion $$ project and several multi-hundred million $$ projects by
OJT - technically had a Engineer attached to my title even tho I didn;t go
thru the pain hardships of becoming an engineer. When I became disabled
in 12/00 I was making over 100K - more than many lawyers - IIRC the median
income of lawyers was around $60K.

Too many lawyers, not enough engineers -- take a look in the classifieds

Unfortunately you have to fight the corporate method of managing census by
laying off the older engineers who are making big bucks (relatively
speaking) because they've been around for 10+ years and hiring new people
after a few months pass - so they don't get in trouble with labor laws.
;-)
It happend to me - but fortunatly there was other jobs I could go to and get
an increase -
others are not as flexible - I had to commute 3 hours from home for a while.

Engineering can seem quite lucrative for the young buck right out of
school, but by the time you've put in 25 years and are making less
than a decent MB mechanic or plumber with even less public respect,
you might change your mind. About the best positive for engineering at
that point is that at least you don't go home dirty...

The biggest problems with engineering as a career is that we've spent
the last 50 years making the impossible look so easy the public thinks
 it must really be easy.

For instance, if you graduate with an accounting degree after age 25, forget

I think Sheriff Joe should be our next president!

BTW, there was an AnimalPlanet special on the pet/inmate program run by
Sheriff Joe - the inmates really made progress (less anger, fighting, etc)
when they had a pet to care for. None of the pets were ever neglected by
the inmates - quite the opposite - they rec'd outstanding care -

Sheriff Joe is at it again!!

You all remember Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Arizona , who
painted the jail cells pink and made the inmates wear pink prison garb.
 Well.

SHERIFF JOE IS AT IT AGAIN!

Oh, there's MUCH more to know about Sheriff Joe!

Maricopa County was spending approx. $18 million dollars
a year on stray animals, like cats and dogs. Sheriff Joe offered to take
the department over, and the County Supervisors said okay.

The animal shelters are now all staffed and operated by
prisoners. They feed and care for the strays. Every animal in his care is
taken out and walked twice daily. He now has prisoners who are experts in
animal nutrition and behavior. They give great classes for anyone who'd
like to adopt an animal. He has literally taken stray dogs off the street,
given them to the care of prisoners, and had them place in dog shows.

The best part? His budget for the entire department is
now under $3 million. Teresa and I adopted a Weimaraner from a Maricopa
County shelter two years ago. He was neutered, and current on all shots,
in great health, and even had a microchip inserted the day we got him.
 Cost us $78.
The prisoners get the benefit of about $0.28 an hour for
working, but most would work for free, just to be out of their cells for
the day. Most of his budget is for utilities, building maintenance, etc.
He pays the prisoners out of the fees collected for adopted animals.

I have long wondered when the rest of the country would
take a look at the way he runs the jail system, and copy some of his
ideas. He has a huge farm, donated to the county years ago, where inmates
can work, and they grow most of their own fresh vegetables and food, doing
all the work and harvesting by hand. He has a pretty good sized hog farm,
which provides meat, and fertilizer. It fertilizes the Christmas tree
nursery, where prisoners work, and you can buy a living Christmas tree for
$6 - $8 for the Holidays, and plant it later. We have six trees in our
 yard from the Prison.

Yup, he was reelected last year with 83% of the vote.
Now he's in trouble with the ACLU again. He painted all
his buses and vehicles with a mural, that has a special hotline phone
number painted on it, where you can call and report suspected illegal
aliens. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement wasn't doing enough in his
eyes, so he had 40 deputies trained specifically for enforcing immigration
laws, started up his hotline, and bought 4 new buses just for hauling
folks back to the border. He's kind of a 'Git-R Dun' kind of Sheriff.

TO THOSE OF YOU NOT FAMILIAR WITH JOE ARPAIO

HE IS THE MARICOPA ARIZONA COUNTY SHERIFF

AND HE KEEPS GETTING ELECTED OVER AND OVER
THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY:

Sheriff Joe Arpaio (In Arizona ) who created the ' Tent
 City Jail':
He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges
 the inmates for them.

He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails. Took
away their weights Cut off all but 'G' movies.

He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work
 on county and city projects.

Then He Started Chain Gangs For Women So He Wouldn't Get
  Sued For Discrimination.

He took away cable TV Until he found out there was A
Federal Court Order that Required Cable TV For Jails So He Hooked Up The
Cable TV Again Only Let In The Disney Channel And The Weather Channel.

When asked why the weather channel He Replied, So They
Will Know How Hot It's Gonna Be While They Are Working
  ON My Chain Gangs.

He Cut Off Coffee Since It Has Zero Nutritional Value.

When the inmates complained, he told them, 'This Isn't
The Ritz/Carlton.If You Don't Like It, Don't Come Back.'

He bought Newt Gingrich's lecture series on videotape

a more fun and sporty replacement for the 320i.

Don't forget the Honda CRX, which out-handled the Lotus Esprit in a
mid-'80s R T cover story. Wish they still made those now!

IMO, Journeyman means you are no longer an apprentice electrician.
Check out master plumbers and master electricians, but I bet they come out below
attorneys if working for wages.

Re: [MBZ] R while moving

2008-06-12 Thread Rich Thomas
I saw on TV once an auto tranny test, I think it was some factory
engineers, revving the car to max then slamming it into a fwd gear, when
the tires started smoking they slammed it into reverse. They said it
was built to survive the process, but definitely did not look like the
process was helping it any. I always thought that the hydraulics would
prevent it from going into R from D if you were moving, i.e., that the
linkage really only commanded the tranny to go into a gear, but the
hydraulics in the system actually did the shifting. (which is why it
takes like 2-3 seconds for a Benz tranny to actually drop into gear once
you select D?)

My guess is, it already did.
