Re: [MBZ] Leatherique rejuvenator on vinyl?
That's because the restoration oil rejuvenates leather, made up of tanned protiens, not plastic PVC which is what vinyl is. Don't know if it will hurt, necessarily, but the oils in Leatherique rejuvenator will either do nothing or make the vinyl oily, at best. Re: [MBZ] Front Brakes Kudos
Will do Ed - I'm sure the Jurid's are one of the OEM pads - I've used them on other cars and have been happy with them. But the amount of dust will be key to whether I like them or not. MB uses Jurid and Textar - one is a hard pad which releases more dust and requires more effort to get them work the other is somewhat softer pad for customers who complain about brake squeal; which is a possibility when using hard pads - but I'll give them a couple of weeks to see how they do - BTW, I tried a set of ceramic/mix pads from NAPA, but the sensor wires I had (which worked fine on the old pads) did not fit the pin holes. Also, the NAPA pads were roughly twice the cost of the Jurid's from Rusty - even with the shipping cost. Hopefully they.will be satisfactory - But I was especially impressed with the kit and how the pads were packaged - meaning the wear sensors and new bolte were in the box for each caliper - the W124 calipers are very easy to replace the pads - the caliper halves float on a pair of pins that have a bolt to hold the caliper in place. Remove the lower bolt (the new ones come with LocTite on them) and the upper caliper half rotates up and out of the way exposing the pads. new pads drop in place of the old ones, press the caliper piston back into place and the caliper half can rotate down and a new bolt is screwed into the lower pin. The sensor wire is attached and it's time to put the wheel/tire back on move to the other wheel. One of the easiext brake pad sets I've ever replaced - make that *THE* easiest to change - here's no competition. The only problem I had was needing to remove my last dust shield as it was brushing against something and making noise - removed it and all is quiet again. Of course, I'll need to deal with the excess brake dust again. Thanks, Ed 300E 2009/1/31 LarryT l02tur...@comcast.net Howdy - I replaced the front brake pads on my 91 300D 2.5T yesterday and it went so smoothly I just had to write and tell ow easily everything went. From placing the order on Rusty's site (way to go Rusty!!) to installing the new pads was the best experience I've had. I ordered them Wednesday evening and they were on my front porch Friday around noon. I bought a set of Jurid brakes which came with everything needed. Not only did I get the new pads, but also new wear indicator wores and a new pivot bolt with Loc-Tite applied. Rusty had the brake pads in stock and shipped them immediately. It's such a pleasure to have all needed parts in the box. No need to get anything except tools. Excellent! Thanks to Rusty and to Jurid (a HoneywellCo) for excellent service. Also, UPS delivered the package in 2 days even though I didn;t pay for 2 day service -- something FedEx doesn't do. I had a FedEx Ground package that arrived in about 18 hours. Rather than put it on a truck and drop it off they kept it in the local warehouse until the 3 days were here - *then* they dropped the package off rather than build goodwill by delivering ~2 days early! Another good reason to use UPS - have a nice Sunday! Re: [MBZ] Front Brakes Kudos
and it went so smoothly I just had to write and tell ow easily everything went. [MBZ] Kaleb's noisy 601 lifters
Kaleb, Had a lifter suddenly get noisy on my 603 while about 450 miles from home. I was very upset, thought the head gasket oil gallery had failed at the #1 cylinder. Spoke to my mechanic back in Charleston (Hans at German Auto Repair) and he didn't think there would be any harm in driving it back if I desired. I topped up the oil with M1 0W-40 (it was a mix of Chevron dino oil and M1 Truck and SUV), the tick went away, occasionally I still here it at idle if I really listen hard. Current oil is all M1. Try a change of M1 0W-40, certainly can't hurt. Marshall always said that it would often cure noisy lifters. If they don't get better, I'd leave them alone if the engine is running fine otherwise. The test of pushing down to see if they move must be performed on a hot engine, if you go that route. Very respectfully, /s/ Max Dillon '87 300TD 313k miles - time to apply for her second high mileage badge! -- next part -- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Re: [MBZ] Leatherique rejuvenator on vinyl?
Vinyl is made of chlorine and hydrocarbons, plus some additives for softness/flexibilty. It is the hydrocarbon and softener components that I am looking to replenish/refresh. Components of the vinyl mix will off-gas over time, eventually depositing a hazy film on the inside of your windshield. As a small test, the rejuvenator oil seems to have effectively softened the rock hard pad/donut on the steering hub. I'm a little reluctant to use it on the dash for fear of causing cracks where none exist now, pending confirmation that it will/won't harm... ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Re: [MBZ] FW: this is the wierdest auction I have seen

Re: [MBZ] FW: this is the wierdest auction I have seen
Welcome to the list, and I think you'll find more than a few fans for the G Wagons here, myself included. We see very few older imported models here, most are the newer G500 or AMG hooligan versions, (my fave) ;-) lol. As you know, mounting a compressor isn't too hard in most cases, but running all the other lines and other required bits is often a pain. If there is an aftermarket kit that fits neatly under the dash, might be the easier route. If not, I take it by old, you mean an older style 280 engine, and not what is currently found in the C Class models? If so, maybe try to find an old sedan with a 280, that came factory equipped with a/c, and have a look under the hood, to see how the compressor is mounted, as well as all the lines and things. Good luck, and again, welcome to the list. Don't be put off by my reply, most on this list are WAY more knowledgeable than me, and I'm sure can offer you more help or suggestions!!! lol Ed 300E 2009/2/1 drcscru...@aol.com Does anyone have information on adding AC to a 280G that never had it?? I'm not sure why the car couldn't be sold to a Canadian buyer. Re: [MBZ] OT - NeXT Cubes
For what it's worth, Mac Cubes are going for around $200 on my Mac list on a fairly regular basis. That's complete and in working condition, usually with monitor if you want it (ouch!) I realize we're talking NeXT, but for Cube wanna-be's it's not a bad option. In fact, Cubes will run the earlier versions of OS X, I believe, and with enough RAM and an upgraded video card aren't bad machines. As an aside, I saw one of the first Cubes demoed for an educational customer back in 2000. The guy was in the middle of rendering some video he had just captured using the OS 9 version of iMovie. Without warning, the thing just burst into flames - literally! I felt sorry for him, but found it humorous as well I was just using my G4 Quicksilver a little while ago. Something about using a vintage machine that's just, well, fun. When I had to replace the front and rear windows on my 1981 300SD I discovered that the small amount of rust [like you describe] covered a large amount of inside rust - also with a mostly dry trunk. In fact, on my home stereo surround sound, I dont even have the equalizer hooked up anymore for regular non-surround stuff. Any tips, pointers, thoughts etc. Basic idea with an EQ is to tailor the sound to a particular room, speaker set, etc.Quick and dirty method: Find a reference recording of some sort (say, in your case, a Bert Kaempfert CD). Start it going with the EQ flat and listen to the sound. If it sounds muddy, boost the higher frequency sliders. If it sounds tinny, boost the lower frequency sliders. If it sounds flat, boost the midrange a bit. Once you've found the sweet spot, leave it there; that'll be about as good as you're likely to get. -MMM- ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

I noticed someone retracted their bid today - what was the deal with that? Why didn't the $17,500 bidder retract their bid? Chris P.S. I won the 126 300SD parts book. If you can still find them (no longer in production), Goodyear Regatta 2 tires do very well on the 240D in snow. One sandbag in the trunk. With Regatta 2 tires, my 240D will venture into 18 of snow and just keep on going. Re: [MBZ] New 240D
We enjoyed our all-manual '80 240D for nearly 16 years 'til it was totaled at 185 kmi in accident an with an uninsured motorist in '95. Wife and I left DC in it during a blizzard at about 4 PM one afternoon about 1987; all lanes but far left one were filled bumper-to-bumper as I joined southbound traffic at bridge near Lincoln memorial; I immediately whipped into open left lane and began cruising 55 to 60 mph past the several lanes of stalled traffic in the right hand lanes; 'quickly realized I was in HOV lane (3 or more passengers); my engineering math told me that wife and I = only 2, but I also quickly concluded that nobody would notice or be bold enough to stop us in the blizzard and block the only lane that was moving, and traffic in the right lanes was just sitting there - would have been rude of me to try to force my way into it - ;). 'Drove south in that lane and in that blizzard at nearly 60 mph for 35 miles or so before moving into right/regular lane. 'Thought it was better to help clear the city of some of that traffic congestion - me - ASAP.
