[MBZ] butane soldering
I need to replace my old orange 15-60W Portasol butane iron. There's quite a line-up of those things now that Weller owns Portasol. This is the awesome one: http://www.amazon.com/PSI100K-Super-Pro-Self-Igniting-Cordless-Soldering/dp/B000ICGN38 This looks like the closest replacement for my old 1980s model that now leaks butane: http://www.amazon.com/Weller-P2C-Professional-Self-Igniting-Cordless/dp/B000B61L0G And this one is very attractively priced, but fixed 50W output instead of variable: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003H6LRDS/ Any thoughts? ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Re: [MBZ] how many pads?
That sounds analogous to the 111 system, and I think up to the 123 at least, they were all interchangeable. Pretty much reduces Woger's argument to nothing. I'm not sure why they used a red and blue in the spring designation, but blue springs were usually stiffer or stronger than red, and took a thinner spring pad. When ordering a set of springs, one either took a chance they'd get a matching set, or order three and return whatever one didn't match. The red or blue paint mark was the lower mark one or two coils up from the bottom. The colors in the middle of the spring were not relevant. Factory springs for at least the U.S. bound '87 300D were 124 321 23 04. These were discontinued at some point. Spring pads had ribs on them usually 2, 3, or 4 so one could visually tell without knowing part numbers to match them. The more ribs, the thicker the spring pad. Don't ask me how I know all of this! Brian On Wed, Aug 18, 2010 at 10:50 PM, Thomas Savage tesav...@gmail.com wrote: relng...@aol.com wrote: MB uses a formula to determine pad thickness. Tell me how many different rear spring pads there are or were for the model in question. Must be dozens according to your story. Depending on the serial number range, I count up to 30 front spring pad part numbers for the 124, 15 red and 15 blue (whatever that means). For a 124.133 300D, 15 of them are applicable. 15 front springs total; nine possible for a 300D. (Wait, you said rear - figures are a little lower back there.) Took '83 300D beater with heavy coating of brake dust on the Bundt wheels to the automatic car wash. Wheels came out squeaky clean with no hand labor at all. Machine gently squirts cleaner on wheels and then a sprayer rinses them. Sure would like to know what kind of wheel cleaner that was. Doing it by hand is slow. [MBZ] 190D suspension
Did somebody answer and I didn't notice? How much movement is allowable in a subframe mount? The rear mounts on my '84 190D have about 1/8 up and down movement (no fore and aft I could detect but its hard to say) while the front mounts have zero or as close to it as you'd want to get. They look reasonably easy to swap out but depending on how you look it it WorldPac makes them seem fairly expensive... Hey Rusty, price on a rear (rear position) subframe mount kit? The website shows it but the link doesn't work. It says the front mount kit is $105 but the bushings are only $15 apiece and the mounting kit is only $20. I need some direction on resolving. I had the glow plugs were working extremely intermittently so I replaced them as a first step. This appeared to 'fix' the issue as the light came on when key was turned and started easily. During normal driving in city traffic the throttle linkage failed - broke completely, when car was being driven by wife. Duteously I went out and improvised the linkage connection with fencing wire to get car home. This was successful. I then had a young mechanic purchase and replace the throttle linkage. Since then the car has refused to start. We were initially able to start it by squirting aerostart into air inlet, but even when engine was hot it required application of areostart to start the engine. It now refuses to start at all. I loosened one of injectors and cranked the engine over, and small amount of diesel appears. What I am missing here ? Also if I need to have it taken to a shop, can anyone recommend a good shop in the East/SE are of Melbourne. [MBZ] New addition to the driveway
The 240D hasn't left, but it's been replaced by an 87 300SDL. 310k, maintenance records up to 290k (10 years ago). Starts like a champ in the nice warm weather, and more power than a 77 NA 300D - guess that cylinder+turbo combo is good for something. :) Has a two-year-old head, but I forgot how to tell if it was a good one; kind of doubt they'd have put a new bad one back on, though of course I'll check it out in the morning. Needs a new headlight, which I have, and some algae killer, which I also have; a windshield and front seats, which I may wait to get from the junkyard; and a bunch of maintenance items from Rusty, of course, for which it shall wait. I only have three days to get it past safety inspection so that's my first goal. :) Only odd things for which I presently seek counsel: 1) it ticks much worse than my 300D (and the PO put silicon tape around one of the fuel lines, guessing that's related), and 2) it idles at 2.5-ish bar when slightly warm - haven't gone hot yet. The manual says it can drop to 0.3bar - is that really true? Anyway, I'm excited, it seems like a good car for the money, and exactly what I wanted for size, comfort, and propulsion... as long as I can keep it reliable for a while we're set! :) As always thanks for any advice. Re: [MBZ] New addition to the driveway
Leaking lines can cause clacking injectors, but it's more likely that the lifters are flat (overhead cam with bucket style hydraulic tappets). An oil change with new o-rings on the center bolt will cure that. If the injection lines are bad, get some made up at an injection service, they are now hard to get. Make absolutely positive that they are not rubbing! They clink if they are, and grind through pretty fast (I've done this a couple times now). The oil jets that spray oil on the bottoms of the pistons so they don't melt close at 2 bar, so it's normal for the oil pressure to hang right there at idle. Yes, 0.3 bar is the low limit, but if you have less than 2 bar at idle, your oil pump is failing, Peter ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
