Drove/rode like a dream, poured some $$ into it to make it even better. When we had to sell, we lost money. Needed $$ fast, so couldn't wait for the right buyer. But a w123 ANYTHING will NEVER be WORTH more than a w107. There are millions of 123s all over the world, in every combination imaginable to man, and most never seen here in the States. Your local seller is dreaming..or just doesn't want to sell it. You could buy a '90s Rolls sedan for around $10k if you know where to look. Why spend almost 5x that much on something you'd be afraid to drive, due to the cost? Muscle-cars are a whole other ballgame entirely. That type of buyer will always have more $$ than sense. I'd take an 87 560SL for $7800 any day of the week, and just put the top down enjoy it. In contrast, a variety of US muscle cars from the 80s, including Firebirds and Corvettes, sold for considerably more. This confirms my opinion that the design of the W107 lacks aesthetic appeal. In contrast, a restored white/red W113 280SL is being offered locally at $45K. I have a hard time believing that a pristine late W107 will ever be worth anywhere near this amount. [MBZ] The humiliating taste of failure
My bathroom reno is finally finished so today I wanted to put the new subframe bushings into the Red '84 190D. Got 'em both out of the driver's side okay and got the front in reasonably well but I'll be dammed if I could get the rear mount to go in, I could lift the whole car off the ground but it'd only go into the mount 1/4. Finally I heated the mount and got it in so the bolt would start. I ground down on the bolt until the inevitable happened, I stripped the head... Its a triple square bolt (male, the kind you guys usually say doesn't exist), fortunately Fred had given me a socket... So now I'm stuck, the mount is only in ~1 so theres maybe 2 sticking out, the car drives MUCH worse than before, wanders like a drunken sailor at all speeds... BTW this is not the first I'm I've been unhappy with my performance replacing subframe bushings, in all cases I've noticed the bushings never seat completely, does that take time or am I doing something wrong? [MBZ] OT - Un-Subscribe ???
*It's been awhile since we've had this issue pop up, but I thought someone on this list would enjoy the following - shamelessly copied from another list ---* *The Unsubscribed* The cold fog thickened noticeably as the newcomer hurried towards his destination. He pulled his heavy overcoat around his neck a little more tightly. This part of the city was not a place to tarry. Thieves and whores were the only permanent residents here. Even the cops rolled through these streets with a nervousness and an edge to heir normal macho banter. Trouble and misery closed around everyone who ventured into this pustule of urban blight like a leech on a warm vein. Damn!, he hissed under his breath as he stepped on something soft that squealed and skittered off into the darkness and dankness of the mist. It can't be much farther he thought. It mustn't be much farther. The sickly yellow flicker of light from a street lamp shone dimly through the fog as he quickened his pace. There it was. The doorway seemed to be just blackness without definition. As he got closer, two winos eyed him suspiciously through bloodshot and yellowed eyes. He hustled past them, their breath leaving a rank scent that lingered on his clothes. The door pushed inward and the newcomer was inside. The room was smoky and dim. The bar stank of liquor and broken dreams. Several tables decorated the periphery. The man he had come to see was sitting at one of those tables and beckoned him over to sit. The man was darkly clothed and utterly shapeless. He might have weighed three hundred pounds... or he may have been only bone. His shape was indecipherable. The dark mans eyes were gazing down at the dirty glass in his hand, half filled with cheap whiskey. He had been reading a glossy magazine filled with lurid and obscene images. He folded it tenderly and stuffed it quickly into his coat pocket like a vulture gobbling a rotten piece of flesh. What is it you want of me?, the dark man asked, not lifting his eyes from the glass. His voice rumbled deep in his belly like a toad. I need you to tell me how to unsubscribe, said the newcomer in as even a tone as he could muster. The dark man looked up from his glass slowly to gaze at the newcomer. His eyes were a pale watery blue. And his gaze lingered on the newcomer. You wish to unsubscribe?, he said, with a hint of amusement in his voice but no trace of a smile on his thick pasty lips. You come to me with a need to unsubscribe?, he said, his voice getting louder now and any hint of amusement gone. He sucked in his breath and hissed through his teeth spraying the newcomer with a repulsive mist of spittle, Why? Tell me why it is that you wish to unsubscribe. The newcomer felt fear now creeping up his spine. I don't have the time to sort through all the posts, he mumbled. The dark man sat unmoved, his eyes stared at the newcomer without emotion. His eyes were cold and amphibian. And I sold the Bonanza and bought a Cirrus, added the newcomer. He realized in a heart beat that he should not have said that. The dark man had him by the throat with a quickness that seemed otherworldly. And the dark man squeezed that throat as the newcomer wriggled and squirmed in a voiceless scream. The dark man pulled the newcomers face to his own until they nearly touched noses. He breathed his fetid breath on the newcomer and a trickle of drool escaped his mouth to plop loudly on the table between them. Go!, he rumbled. Go now you fool!, he bellowed. Run if you can. It shall do you no good! Once you have subscribed, all hope of ever unsubscribing is gone! We will find you. Your email is now ours to control. Your email box will fill to bursting with our messages. And there is no hope for you. There is no good deed you can do to change what you have done. The List will not be denied! And with that he released the newcomer who reeled and staggered towards the door, gagging and stumbling. The dark man began to laugh, a low rumbling laugh that grew louder. The newcomer fled up the streets as he had come with the croaking bellowing laughter chasing him. He was doomed... and he knew it. The dark man sat back at the table in the dimly lit bar and sipped at his drink. I guess I could have just told him to go to http://lists.aviating.com/mailman/listinfo/beech-owners and use the one click unsubscribe URL at the end of page, he muttered under his breath. No, he smiled to himself. That would have been all too easy. Still chuckling to himself, he reached into his pocket and pulled out the magazine he had been reading before the newcomer interrupted him. He quickly thumbed through the slick and edge worn pages until he found his place. He never missed a single word of each and every issue of Martha Stewart Living... ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives

[MBZ] OT: MacBook question
Got the MacBook switched off and called the ISP. Turned out that the ISP entries for a MacBook are different than those for a PC, which were the ones I was trying to use. Mail is working well now. I was looking for a way to reset to defaults while trying to get mail set up, so knowing about PRAM will be useful in the future for a MacBook newbie. Thanks, Gerry -- - Original Message - From: LWB250 lwb...@yahoo.com You might also want to reset the PRAM. This won't hurt anything - it just takes all the system settings back to the defaults. You won't even see a change. Hold down P-R-Option (alt)-Command (Apple) keys, then power up. Continue holding this key combination down until the machine does it's characteristic bong tone, and keep holding down until it restarts. MacDann --- From: Gerry Archer arche...@embarqmail.com Thanks, Curt. got it. --- #1. Force quit mail. I forget what the key combination for force quit is, option-command something, I'm sure Google knows. #2. Hold the power button for 30 seconds (feels like forever) which will shut the computer off. Re: [MBZ] OT: MacBook question
Resetting the PRAM is always a good start when things are acting up, and it's not destructive, either. Another thing to do when things are screwy is to reset the NVRAM, which differs depending on what hardware you have. The Apple support site will have the process for your machine. Re: [MBZ] 603 oil pan replacement
OP on the other thread was me. I ordered a pan from a yard via car-part.com, shipping is cheap but there aren't many pans out there so they are pretty pricey. No better suggestions, maybe check local u-pull if you have one. I don't have my gaskets yet - delayed ordering too long so repair will be next week. but will post my experiences after they happen. I am on a 126 and only doing the pan, I hope. :) OK Don's experiences were in 2007, I pulled out helpful text but of course it's at work. Will mail it to you if you'd like, but you can probably find the original thread at mail-archive as easily. [MBZ] How do you lubricate accelerator cables?
Gentlemen The answer to this question is probably 'get new cables'. But here goes anyway. I want to lubricate the two accelerator cables in my 300TD engine bay. Dry cables (now 400+ K miles old) may be contributing to occasional failures of my accelerator to return to idle. I've replaced associated struts and have lubricated all the mini ball-joints in the linkages. I'm loathe to use WD40 which is the most likely to run freely between inner and outer. But how do you get light lubricating oil to run down the length of the cable? Re: [MBZ] How do you lubricate accelerator cables?
IIRC, I pulled the end off of the engine linkage, held it up as high as I could, and dribbled aut-tranny fluid in it.
