That's not as cool as Snookmobile. :) Do you name all your cars after german
Composers? You could have Ludwig, Wolfgang, Hans, Max, Franz, Carl, Johannes,
George, Felix, Robert, Richard, Friedrich, Adolph (although that one has a lot
of connotations).

If you don't like Snookmobile, I vote Felix or Friedrich. Or Snoop.

The greatest what? The greatest composer? The greatest composer in his
style/era? The term classical music is confusing because Classical is a
style or period or era. J.S. Bach and Beethoven are in different eras/styles.
Bach is in the Baroque era/period, it's pretty difficult to compare them. It
would be like asking who is the greatest Sports figure? When the question
might be who is the greatest football player? It's pretty hard to compare a
football player and a tennis player. Likewise, it is difficult to compare
composers from different eras/periods.

So, Bach is arguably the greatest of the Baroque period/style. And arguably,
Beethoven the greatest of the Classical period. EXCEPT, ole Ludwig only wrote
9 symphonies. So, I think Mozart gets the nod. Some people would include
Beethoven in the Romantic period, but I think that is incorrect because his
symphonies followed most of the strict formalities of the classical periods.
He might be a transition between the two. For me, the greatest of the
Romantic period is Wagner.

For the first question, if I had to take a single composer's entire
body of work to a desert island and never listen to anything else,
it'd be Mozart, hands down.

However, if I had to choose one record---IMHO Beethoven's 9th Symphony

Most likely, that one looks _bad_. Looks to me like it got wet,
witness all the corrosion around the outside edges. That's probably
what actually killed it, tricked it into shorting out its own power
which cooked the diodes and the board in that area.

Looks like only a couple dollars' worth of parts, if you were
electronically handy, to try to resurrect it. (The irreplaceable

tell what all the components are, how they are oriented, and
where the burned traces all went. (2-sided board only? Better

This is a very difficult question. It would be too hard to decide between
Mozart, Bach and Wagner. I enjoy listening to Mozart the most because of the
variety and I just like his better. But, Bach was so prolific and the Sonata
and Fugues are really amazing when you study the structure of them. He wrote
quadruple fugues (where four parts all follow the overarching fugue structure
and when the four parts are played ALL together, they also fight the fugue
structure. Its actually quite amazing to keep all of that head when composing.
But, I would probably say Mozart anyway.

If I had to choose one composition, it would be Wagner's Ring Cycle (its four
different opera's)

OR, Jimmy Buffet's greatest Hits. Which is in the CD player of my car right
now.

2011-07-28 Thread Michael Canfield
I do not know who that is.
Having more fun, found the right cv shaft is bad so I am learning how much
fun it is to swap over the older style shaft from my 78 coupe into the 83.
Not really too bad of a job to do. I see no issues with running an old
style shaft on one side and a new style on the other..does anyone see a
problem with that?
I am assuming that I killed the shaft and bearings because the car was
riding so low and grossly overloaded on my 900 mile trip to Detroit and
back. I think I am going to consider swapping out a sls rear from a TD so
it hauls better. I have all of the parts, I wonder if they are any
good..I might even swap the rear to 85 gears while I am at it and see if
it runs out better on the highway.

This is a very difficult question. It would be too hard to decide between

variety and I just like his better. But, Bach was so prolific and the Sonata

quadruple fugues (where four parts all follow the overarching fugue structure

But, I would probably say Mozart anyway.

If I had to choose one composition, it would be Wagner's Ring Cycle (its four

OR, Jimmy Buffet's greatest Hits. Which is in the CD player of my car right now.

I was thinking the 85 gears would get me better fuel economy at highway
speeds. Maybe at the cost of worse mileage overall if the turbo isn't
spooled up enough at average travel speeds.

H. I will have to experiment. I see my rear control arm is getting
rusted through on the bottom so I will be dropping the whole rear suspension
assembly to replace that. Guess that would be a good time to swap over some
parts from the wagons.

Not on a diesel. The amount of fuel used to travel is directly related to the
power required to move the car at that speed, it has little to do with the
rotational speed of the engine. When I had my '85 190D I spent a bunch of time
comparing my commute mpg between 4th and 5th gear. I could never find an
appreciable difference in mpg, I saw a much bigger variation when using snow
tires...

Surface mount components aren't all that hard to replace if you have
a hot air soldering station, but one must have the correct
components, and these days that's very unlikely -- everything is a
custom part and once the design run is finished, they stop making them.

Maybe down the road that problem will be solved by some technology
that has yet to filter down to the hobbyist level?

Not many people in the mid-'80s could have predicted that twenty-five

microcontrollers costing pocket change. (I'm thinking of stuff like

This is a very difficult question. It would be too hard to decide between
Mozart, Bach and Wagner. I enjoy listening to Mozart the most because of
 the
variety and I just like his better. But, Bach was so prolific and the
 Sonata
and Fugues are really amazing when you study the structure of them. He
 wrote
quadruple fugues (where four parts all follow the overarching fugue
structure and when the four parts are played ALL together, they also fight
the fugue structure. Its actually quite amazing to keep all of that head
when composing. But, I would probably say Mozart anyway.

If I had to choose one composition, it would be Wagner's Ring Cycle (its
 four different opera's)

OR, Jimmy Buffet's greatest Hits. Which is in the CD player of my car
 right now.
