Re: [MBZ] W124 front end rebuild

2011-10-23 Thread Jaime Kopchinski
It took two of us 5 hours working at an amateur pace. As far as details go,
there wasn't much to it. Just unbolt and rebolt really. The workshop
manual (available online for free now) has what you need for torque specs,
etc.

A w126 is another beast. Theres many more bushings and joints to change if
you do everything. Theres more to press in and out also. I need to do some
minor work on my next week, so I'll let you know how it goes. Heres a parts
list I put together for a 86 W126 for a complete rebuild:

1 A 126 330 18 07 Lower Control Arm Left
1 A 126 330 19 07 Lower Conrtol Arm Right
1 A 126 330 06 07 Upper Control Arm Left
1 A 126 330 07 07 Upper Control Arm Right
2 A 116 333 09 27 Ball Joint
2 A 123 330 14 75 Brake rod to Lower Control Arm joint
2 A 126 330 11 35 Brake Support Joint
2 A 126 333 54 14 Subframe bushing Front
2 A 126 333 33 14 Subframe bushing Rear
1 A 126 330 06 88 Bolt Kit
2 A 126 330 00 51 Wheel Bearing Kit
4 A 116 333 40 14 Front Swaybar Bushings

A w126 is another beast. Theres many more bushings and joints to change if
you do everything. Theres more to press in and out also. I need to do some
minor work on my next week, so I'll let you know how it goes. Heres a parts

1 A 126 330 18 07 Lower Control Arm Left

[MBZ] door liner hooks

2011-10-23 Thread Allan Streib
Several of the plastic hooks on my driver's door liner (W116) are
snapped off and missing. So it's basically hanging by the top and one
hook near the hinge.

Anyone have any clever ideas for repair? I had a look inside the door
and did not find the pieces.

I'm thinking of going to the hardware store and looking for spring metal
clips of some sort that I may be able to adapt.

3M 8090 (or 9080, I can never remember). The regular super trim
adhesive won't handle the heat.

Don't use liquid nails -- the next time the pad falls apart (in five
or six years) you will be faced with a terrible mess trying to get
all that crap off again. The bottle of 3M will do two cars.

I believe the metal clips from the 110/111/112 series will work in
place of the plastic ones.

They might last a little longer, if you end up keeping the car.

I wish the 124 especially, and 126 had the 111 style clips and two
big screws for the armrest. That was pretty foolproof.

My word, they sure are revising Java a lot!

I have jre-6u27-linux-i586.rpm and the website now says they are up to
revision 29.

I guess I can update that.

Re: [MBZ] door liner hooks

2011-10-23 Thread Allan Streib
Since the clips are molded as part of the door liner I'd have to order a
new liner. I'm wanting something less expensive... something dare I say
Cathey-esque. Though I don't know if any microwave parts would be
suitable here.

Order the 110/111 clips and glue them on. if it takes about a 1/4
square hole or 5/16 round hole to snap into, they should work.

Remember though, I have not seen a 116 liner

They are not the push-in type of clips. More like hooks that engage as
the panel is dropped down. Probably broken because someone tried to pry
the panel straight out.

I am going to try to find or make some hooks and glue them in with JB
Weld. Actually just a flat S shape made of sheet metal might work
OK... maybe microwave metal would do the trick after all.

[MBZ] MB to produce another model at Tuscaloosa

2011-10-23 Thread RELNGSON
Daimler has said that it will further expand its US plant in Tuscaloosa,
Alabama. From 2015, an entirely new - unidentified - Mercedes-Benz model will
roll off the production line as its fifth product.

The plant has been the traditional production site of the brand's M-, GL-,
and R-Class SUVs and will also build the C-Class for the North American
market beginning 2014. For the production of the new model, Daimler said it
will
additionally invest US$ 350 million, and will create some 400 further jobs
at the plant.

Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Daimler Board of Management and Head of
Mercedes-Benz Cars said: This new model from the Tuscaloosa plant is an
important element of our growth strategy. It is one of the ten additional
models
which we will introduce within the next four years alone across all
segments. Referring to the Tuscaloosa plant's role within the global
production
network of Mercedes-Benz Cars, Zetsche added: At the same time, we are
systematically broadening our manufacturing footprint in the NAFTA region.

Robert Bentley, Governor of the State of Alabama said: Since the time
Mercedes-Benz chose Tuscaloosa County for its first US assembly plant 18 years
ago, the company has proven to be an outstanding partner for the state. We
join MBUSI in celebrating this milestone, and welcome the hundreds of jobs
this announcement brings to Alabama.

Earlier this year, on the occasion of the Job #1 ceremony of the new
Mercedes-Benz M-Class in July, Daimler announced the decision to invest more
than
US$2 billion in the Tuscaloosa plant (Mercedes-Benz U.S. International -
MBUSI). In total, investment in the plant between 2010 and 2014 will thus
amount to US$2.4 billion, while the number of newly created jobs will add up to
1,400.

Markus Schaefer, President and CEO of MBUSI, commented on these decisions:
The entire MBUSI team is proud of its role in the success of the models
made in Tuscaloosa. We are looking forward to making further important
contributions to the product offensive of Mercedes-Benz.

I wonder if they mean entirely new overall, or just in the USA? I'd
like to see the Vito here, the Sprinter is too big for a family van.
