Well, I didn't have time this morning to test anything more. Had to catch a plane, SWMBO went on with the car. She got there with no problem. She travelled roughly the same distance with the car in less time. Roughly 650 miles. I spent a (not so) lovely day in ORD waiting for the second flight. Gate changes, plane changes. Had one gate/plane ready, then for some inexplicable reason, they sent that hardware and crew to ottawa, ca. THen a storm was closing in. So, for less than 1000 miles, I still contend that a MB Diesel is faster than flying. (unless you get a direct flight.) Re: [MBZ] 1974 Mercedes 240D - Classic Car Runs Good
I have had MBs with Tex, leather and cloth. I would rate them from good to bad in that order. MBTex is pretty much bulletproof and easy to recover if damaged. Leather, no matter how well it's cared for, does not age well. I have seen many a really nice exterior with leather than is crap. It really detracts from the car, and without a lot of time and expense, it's tough to bring back. Cloth? Forget it. It wears poorly and can't be repaired, only replaced. Howdy - When replacing the rear brake pads I noticed there is rust where the forward rear link attaches to the body.If facing the pass. rear brake assy the link would be approx. 3 o'clock with one end attaching to the rear axle and the other to the body. It looks like there was a box with the link attached to one side of the box. The side of the box attached to the link is still holding and actually looks really good - but one side of the box has rusted away (I think) - I am assuming the box was closed at one time. It seems like a design meant to catch mud and rust - something MB doesn't usually do - so I'm wondering if the box was ever closed as the rest of the metal looks pretty good. I checked MB EPC looking for a repair part but did not see one. Does anyone recall if the link attaching point is a closed box? Haven't been able to find a good image yet... Good suggestion, Rich.
