Coupla years ago right about now I was riding my bike on a back road and heard this commotion of crows so stopped to see what it was. There was a bald eagle sitting out in a field, all the crows were mobbing it. The eagle kept trying to take off but it had something largish and black and would not drop it. Finally after 3 or 4 tries it got airborne and flew over me, looked like it was carrying a cat. I heard something behind be in the woods on the other side of the road and there was a flock of turkeys. In this part of Florida turkey vultures are all over. While not attractive birds, they assure that the streets and other areas are cleaned of all sorts of dead animal with amazing efficiency. It's not uncommon to see a road kill pulled off to the side of the road in the morning and by afternoon all traces of it have disappeared. I've made them out of the the copper oil drain seals. pt it over a needle nose pliers and open the pliers to squeeze, turn repeat over and over until the OD is large enough. Typically the bushings are full of crap and the shaft is stuck. Replace it, it's not worth the effort of getting the impeller balanced again if you take it apart. Might not be so bad on a 126, but the 124's are a huge pain. Around 2008 I rebuilt the HVAC blower in my 124.193, using a kit from MercedesSource. Kit included a new Bosch motor, a special tool for removing the fan blades, and a decent instruction book. IIRC, had to measure the distance between inside edges of fan blades and mark the clock orientation of the blades. These ensured that balance was maintained and the blades didn't rub the housing when mounted on the new motor. I think price was around $80, new motor still works fine. On the subject of changing blower motors, do so as soon as it starts to run slowly or fail to start occasionally, or you will burn up the speed control module and have to replace that as well. The module cost around $400 for an original one, and while the aftermarkets work, they run the fan faster than I like. It's also a pain to replace! I know, I've replaced two so far and will be doing #3 shortly. North Florida was poor during the early 1950s. Many chemistry majors couldn't afford beer so they made raisin jack**, poured it in the labs large polyethylene cylinders, and froze it in the lab refrigerators.
