[MBZ] !995 E300D Question Injection Pump Leak Repair

2015-09-26 Thread Robert Massmann via Mercedes
Max,

I changed my injection pump delivery valve ‘O’ rings and copper washers today,
but it seems to be taking an awful long time to get the fuel line full of fuel.
Still not seeing any fuel at the injectors where have the lines cracked to
bleed the lines.

Not sure if I have done something wrong. I only removed the body, the spring
and the copper washer. Everything else I left alone. I was surprised ( 4) out
of the six injectors didn’t have much fuel and may have been due to the poor
condition of the ‘O’ rings on the delivery valve body.

Any thoughts would be helpful.

Regards,

Bob Massmann

I think you have to bleed at the injectors as you are doing. Maybe if you
crack the line at the pump, there will be indication that fuel is going to the
lines. Did you refresh the filters? On the 95 e300d I had to have a very well
charged battery and just crank the bejeesus out of the engine to get injector

2015-09-26 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
What Clay said, crack the lines at the injectors and crank crank crank. I
just did this on my '87 wagon, when you move the injection lines they bleed
out and you have to push a lot of fuel through them to get the air out. In
my case I finally had to use jumper cables from my other car, engine
running, to have enough juice to crank long enough to get fuel to the
injectors.

Hold the accel. pedal to the floor while you crank to get maximum fuel out
of the IP.

I disconnect the pre-glow relay while cranking to save amps in the
battery.

be nice not to smell diesel when I stop and leaking on the floor. None of
the 'O' rings came out in one piece, they were very hard and brittle. I
believe they have never been change since the car was new!

427,000 miles and still running.

Subject: [MBZ] !995 E300D Question Injection Pump Leak Repair

Max,

I changed my injection pump delivery valve ‘O’ rings and copper washers
today, but it seems to be taking an awful long time to get the fuel line
full of fuel. Still not seeing any fuel at the injectors where have the
lines cracked to bleed the lines.

Not sure if I have done something wrong. I only removed the body, the spring
and the copper washer. Everything else I left alone. I was surprised ( 4)
out of the six injectors didn’t have much fuel and may have been due to the
poor condition of the ‘O’ rings on the delivery valve body.

Any thoughts would be helpful.

Regards,

Bob Massmann

Renntech Mercedes-Benz S700 - 485HPA Fine-Tuned Teutonic Terror
There's something to be said for sheer size, especially for a 2.5-ton two-door
that's quicker in the quarter mile than most production sports cars, more
comfortable than the Elvis suite at the Las Vegas Hilton, and decorated with
the savoir-faire of any Cary Grant movie in which he wears a tuxedo. There's
also something to be said for a 48-valve DOHC 12-cylinder engine displacing
seven full liters and producing approximately 485 horsepower and 510 pound-feet
of torque. And it's all built like a Mercedes because it is a Mercedessnip

Re: [MBZ] Fw: 1999 Mercedes 320 Diesel

2015-09-26 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
The earlier non-electronic transmissions can have problems as well. There's a
known issue with the input shaft, I believe, that when it fails it's
catastrophic.

It really boils down to regular fluid and filter changes, I believe.

280SE

And have to say after only being able to play with it for about a day, I love
it. It needs some TLC, but the pep and design details on it have won my heart.

Now to fix that vapor lock, which I just reproduced with the engine temp at
about 190 degrees, while idling. Engine puttered out and stalled. I can get to
to start with a little throttle, but stalls quickly after.

Where can I get that new check valve again? Going to try this and some
insulation and see what happens.

Re: [MBZ] This might be a decent buy

2015-09-26 Thread clay via Mercedes
It sort of does in the early r107 (D-jet M117)

The system is susceptible to heat soaking of the fuel lines after driving which
causes a phase change in the petrol. As a gas, the petrol is far too
compressible and unable to flow properly/diffuse as it piddles out of the
injectors. Hard or no start situation with very rough running if it does light
off. This happens, not only after parked for a while, but also long runs and
transitioning to lower speed city roads.

Running the fuel pump a few times to displace the vapor with cooler fuel solves
the problem

Subject: [MBZ] Fun with the S420

Did front and back brakes with ceramic pads on the 1994 S420 this morning.
Fronts were down to the wear indicators but the backs still had some meat
on them. Oh well, at least now the wheels won’t look like crap. I
cleaned the wheels and dressed the tires as well. Looks nice.

Decided to replace the rubber seal/bellows between the MAF and throttle
body, since I had an almost new one from the S500 part-out along with
installing the last of the breather hose that goes from the right valve
cover to the throttle body.

Ugh. What an ordeal.

Got the MAF off without a problem, which as good. Was yanking on the
breather hose going to the throttle body when it just broke off (original
hose, very brittle.) I’m thinking, this makes it easy, now I can just
scrape the last of it off the hose barb on the back of the throttle body,
slip the new one on, and put everything back together.

Not so.

While the S500 had no clamp on the hose at the throttle body, it appears
there should have been one. And this car, having never been touched in
these nether regions, has a clamp on the remains of the hose that’s still
on the hose barb on the back of the throttle body. Not good.

This means the throttle body has to come out so I can get to the clamp and
remains of the hose. Damn.

Had to take the hard vacuum line off the intake manifold to give me more
room to get the throttle body out/in. Made a big difference. If you’ve
never done this on an M119, it’s like some sort of cruel Tetris game, as
the throttle body will only come out and go back in a certain way, and the
clearances are minimal at best.

I must have been living right, as the gasket was undamaged on the bottom
of the throttle body. Whew! Thank goodness for that!

Got everything back together, fired it up, and went for a test drive to
bed the new brakes in.

I’ve had enough excitement for the day.
