2016-01-08 Thread Curly McLain via Mercedes
Just to clarify, I've had my wholesale account with Mercedes Benz of
Tampa for nearly 20 years. I've always gone to them over the years
when they were competitive.

The really nice thing is that they empower their employees to do
whatever is necessary to get the business when possible. For
example, I called earlier this week about MB ATF. They told me
wholesale was around $14/liter, but they looked on the Internet and
saw others were selling it for less, so they gave me the lower price.

How many dealers do that?

Dan

Obviously they skipped class on the day the MomBusa MBA bowties had
the "maximizing profit" class for stealers.

[MBZ] Coolant level sensor failure?

2016-01-08 Thread Max Dillon via Mercedes
I think the coolant level sensor has begun failing in my 95 124.131.

The light in the dash periodically comes on, but the coolant level in the
overflow tank is fine.

Anyone else suffer this failure? Is there also a circuit in the instrument
cluster, similar to the oil level sensor, that might be at fault? Light
doesn't flicker, just comes on for a bit, maybe ten or twenty seconds, then
goes off.

Re: [MBZ] Starter motor

2016-01-08 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
I have used Rock Auto for a number of hard parts over the last year or so and
been very pleased with them. Last one was a rebuilt front caliper for the 98
S420 Tommymobile. The price was good and the core return process quite simple.

I also like their close out setup with the RSS feeds. I get a heads up on
anything they're closing out for specific vehicles. I've scored some good deals
this way several times.

The only issue I have had with them was buying some close out NOS shocks that
were listed as Bilstein and ended up being Meyle. I called, talked to a an
English speaking support person in Madison, WI, who promptly issued credit and
sent a prepaid call tag to return them. I noticed they changed the part
description a few days later. In fairness to them, the sticker on the boxes
said, "Replacement for Bilstein ".

When women first wanted to be liberated so they could do traditional mens work,
I thought it was a good idea.
We men have gone out in a dangerous world and made a living for many centuries
while our women stayed home, snug and safe.
It's time we men stayed home and let our women go out and make a living.
We men need a rest after all those centuries of hard work.

Re: [MBZ] Starter motor

2016-01-08 Thread Curly McLain via Mercedes

I've got this 240D that has had an oft-patch together starter
motor. It quit again. I figured it was time to buy o fresh
one. Yeah, I kinda dense - probably should have spent the
money a year or two ago.

But where to buy...

I called all the local parts stores. No one could get me a
Bosch rebuilt. Lots of "just a good as a Bosch" and such.

I sure was spoiled with Rusty!

After looking at a number of websites, I decide on RockAuto.
It was pretty clear that I could really choose a Bosch
rebuild SR67X. Equivalents were available, but were clearly
marked as not Bosch. What cinched the deal for me was not
only a very good price - but for the core return I could have
them print a label on their account! The price is deducted
from the core charge.

So - for about $110 plus $45 core plus less than $15 shipping
I got a starter. It works. Yea! And it was easy to get a
label printed - and this heavy old starter is shipping
halfway across the country for less than $15. I doubt I
could have found a way to ship it for less $35.

So far, I'm pretty happy with my dealings with RockAuto.

I've been pretty happy with crockauto, but I am looking at autohausaz
and now rmeuropean too. We are on our own. Without Rusty, there is
no one stop...

I paid 25+ to rm for a trans mount (124) a month or so ago, and last
night I saw crockauto had a febi for under $9. Biggest problem with
crockauto is the shipping cost can be exorbitant. RMeuro has easy
free shipping, so is often cheaper total than crock, especially for
1-3 items.

Just to clarify, I've had my wholesale account with Mercedes Benz of Tampa
for nearly 20 years. I've always gone to them over the years when they
were competitive.

The really nice thing is that they empower their employees to do whatever
is necessary to get the business when possible. For example, I called
earlier this week about MB ATF. They told me wholesale was around
$14/liter, but they looked on the Internet and saw others were selling it
for less, so they gave me the lower price.

How many dealers do that?

I could run a jumper to the tach from the plug to check the tach, I suppose.
or swap out the EDS Computer
or dig into the harness and find the white/ in and the black/red out
and jump them.

Next: to get a speedo cable  Then I'll figure out which option.
Since the EDS is disconnected, I'm thinking just jump the tach in to
the tach out.

Anyone have a spare speedometer cable or a drivers seat adjustment switch?

[MBZ] Confusing start system problem

2016-01-08 Thread archer75--- via Mercedes
Question:
I just finished putting a new backup/starter safety switch and the contact
assembly on the back of the ignition module, in my '83 300D; but the starter
still won't work.
Turning the key all the way clockwise just lights up the preheat bulb.
Since there hasn't been an ignition key spring return on start for some time, I
suspect there might be something jammed in the mechanical part of the ignition
assembly which can't be disassembled. A new mechanical part is expensive.
Has anyone had experience with this problem?
Thanks,
Gerry
