2016-07-31 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
Sadly I'm told the same thing is true of VW dealers when it comes to TDIs.
Apparently the TDI timing belt tensioner installs opposite of how the gassers
do and the dealer "techs" routinely install them backwards trashing the belt in
short order and quickly leading to the demise of the engine.
VW dealers are also known for often putting the wrong oil into TDIs...

It was a weird explanation from the dealer. Daughter had spend thousands with
the dealer since the car was new. Dealer probably thought she would pay any

Re: [MBZ] MB Parts Accounts at epc.startekinfo.com -- $75 Membership Fee will be charged/

2016-07-31 Thread Mitch Haley via Mercedes

My last sign-up was in April 2015, my subscription expired this April and when I tried to sign in I was prompted to pay if I wanted to continue, and I didn't. There's no way they could 'accidentally' auto-renew me after that, but of course I didn't save the screen shots of the 'your subscription has expired' session. The annoying part is I don't remember which card I used for the 'we won't charge your card, just give it to us for the Hell of it'. If I do get hit for $75, I'm strongly considering filing a class action against MBZ for credit card fraud, as they're the ones who took my card info under false pretenses. Mitch.

Moral of the story is: "don't trust the stealer for anything." There is
a reason they are called stealers. YMMV.

Thanks, Larry. That seems to be a growing racket on programs that are
periodically renewed. It happened to me on www.malwarebytes.com
Malwarebytes kept my CC number and charged it the following year
without my permission. Neither the bank nor Visa wanted to make them
refund.
I asked the bank twice, and both times they promised to get a refund,
but they never have.

I've thought about getting a late model Mercedes to replace my two
123's, but since a Mercedes dealers mechanics mistake destroyed the
engine in my daughters '08 GL320cdi, told her she needed a new engine,
and charged her $2000 for repairing the brakes; (both the engine and
the brakes were working quite well after a 100 mile highway trip to
the dealer when she went in for a scheduled oil change.); I've decided
to keep the 123s or switch to another make.
Daughter hired a lawyer who made the dealer pay for a new engine from
a German owned Indy who had it shipped from Germany, and refund the
$2000 which she had not approved, but she was still out $1500 paid to
the lawyer plus the time, trouble, and travel.

Hi All,
I just got a shock - my credit card was charged $75 for a "Membership"
in the Parts Program at MB. Don't know about the others but I joined
to gain access to their Parts Diagrams. I just learned the program is
being managed by a different company which will no longer off the
"Free" subscriptions. The problem is, they have our credit cards on
file and I found out they are not shy about charging the cards without

Now, I am trying to get the $75 refunded.

Mercedes benz of south atlanta makes some form of the parts books

THis is why I never wanted to give those clowns a CC number. This and

2016-07-31 Thread archer75--- via Mercedes
I think I wrote about it before the case was settled.

There was nothing wrong with the engine. Daughter took it in for routine oil
change; nothing else.
For some reason, mechanic went into the engine, put the chain back wrong,
cranked it up, and destroyed the engine; according to dealer.
Dealer billed her $15K plus $2000 for brake repairs (no engine or brake trouble
lights had come on).
I hooked her up with Continental Imports, an indy I've known for a long time,
they put in a new engine, and it has run fine since then.

If you're looking for a nice W140 I am selling mine. Asking $9500
OBOI have a 1992 W-140 300SD badged as a S350 with 143,000 miles.
The car is located in Everett, Washington 25 miles North of
Seattle.Just about EVERYTHING new and ALL factory replaced by a
Mercedes dealer.
I am a 2nd owner and have had the car since 1998.At 75,000 miles, a
NEW factory engine, new evaporator, new turbo, new front springs,
newshocks, new control arm bushings, new exhaust, new injection pump,
new engine boost sensor/manifold pressure sensor new crankshaft
positionsensor new wiring harness, new water pump, new blower motor,
new enginemounts (all 3), new Fan and Fan Blade Drive (main coolant
fan), new throttle linkages, new belt tensioner spring. new rubber
lines, Vacuum fittings and Misc.lines, seals, gaskets, etc you name it
the factory replaced it. If itsqueaked, clicked or hummed. I got it
replaced, ALL RECORDS since the day it
rolled off the boat here in Seattle. On the road I am getting 30 MPG (I
have got 31 but I was the only me and my toothbrush),

around town getting 22 MPG. It has 800 mile legs with a 28 gal tank.
Bose AM/FM with 6 CD capacity. Also have the original Books, First Aid
packet and Tool Kit.Thermo-pane windows (double thick just like your
house)

At 142,000 miles I replaced all Brakes, Generator, Radiator, A/C
compressor, wiring Harness.
Windshield wipers.Again I have EVERY receipt since it rolled off the
boat. Also Have ALL Original books,
Complete Maintenance CD, Original MB 140 VCR sales Tape, 2 New Extra
Filters
(Oil and Air) and an extra Hub for your snow tires. This car runs like
a Swiss Watch.

OKNow the Bad News. Bumper paint has a few chips, 2 small Car door
dings in left rear door,
Just recently the antenna stopped working, this was after they
replaced the Radiator (coincidence?)
The motor still runs but it doesn't go up. I can still get local
stations though.
Right front fender has a small scrape, I cut it a little close when
parking.

I can deliver anywhere for costs and trip back.

[MBZ] MB Parts Accounts at epc.startekinfo.com -- $75 Membership Fee will be charged/

2016-07-31 Thread Larry T via Mercedes
Hi All,
I just got a shock - my credit card was charged $75 for a "Membership" in the
Parts Program at MB. Don't know about the others but I joined to gain access to
their Parts Diagrams. I just learned the program is being managed by a
different company which will no longer off the "Free" subscriptions. The
problem is, they have our credit cards on file and I found out they are not shy
about charging the cards without much (any?)
pre-authorization. At least they didn't in my case. I found my CC had been
charged $75 to renew the "Free" membership only when I saw it on my bank
statement. As those who created memberships know, they required a CC to confirm
something or other.

Anyway, if you have memberships, be sure you cancel or whatever before they
charge your card unless the parts diagrams are that important to you to pay
$75/year for membership.

Now, I am trying to get the $75 refunded.

I hope everyine is having a great weekend?

The car is located in Everett, Washington 25 miles North of
Seattle.Just about EVERYTHING new and ALL factory replaced by a
Mercedes dealer.
I am a 2nd owner and have had the car since 1998.At 75,000 miles, a

Bose AM/FM with 6 CD capacity. Also have the original Books, First Aid
packet and Tool Kit.Thermo-pane windows (double thick just like your

It's not even a hot deal at $17.78:

You will get $17 worth of dashcam if you purchase this item. The first
thing that I noticed was that it resembles a cheap toy. It is of molded
plastic construction and not precision made. The nuts for the mounting
attachment and swivel attachment are molded plastic and I was afraid to
strip their threads, and cross-threading them is very possible. The
swivel screen is equally non-precision and moves laterally about its
hinge pin. Since I was afraid to tighten the swivel nut more than
moderately finger tight, the entire assembly moved when I closed the
swivel screen so I had to guess the correct position, which was too low
to capture traffic lights as a result. It has approximately 60° field

of

view, forward only, and the image quality is not great. It records in

AVI

format and a 16 minute drive video was 1.2 GB, so it will probably loop
after several hours which is OK. However, in the videos I took, the
license plate numbers of other vehicles could not be distinguished (see
video). Only the date and time accompany the videos, there is no GPS
function therefore no speed or location information. It records sound

but

the sound volume becomes inaudible after about a minute of the video
playback, indicating an anomaly with the microphone pickup level
management. I have not tried it at night yet, nor have tried it long
enough to asses the battery life. I am really scratching my head about
all the unbiased 4 and 5 star reviews...but on a positive note,
it records video, and takes pictures. Oh well, I shall probably donate

it

to a needy person (not worth the hassle of RMA) and buy a more upmarket
product.

In a republic, we are free to buy any old MB we want.

Under a democracy, (or a dictator) the "pious" will dictate that all old
cars must be crushed. We saw the result of that in that picture of a
mountian of perfectly good 123 taxis waiting to be crushed. It makes
little difference whether the dictator is individual or corporate (voters).
