ahem, that was some 50 years after we threw out the brits. Maine is

Federal Income Tax vs Income

top 20% pay 86.8% of all of the federal income tax collected

45% of tax payers pay no federal income tax

second lowest 20% get a payment of $621, when they have paid no tax

lowest 20% get a payment of $643, when they have paid no tax

There won't be much use for SAE tools in 10 years or so, except among
antiquers. The car mfgrs and tractor mfgrs are all metric. John Deere
started going metric maybe 30 yrs ago. Our 1974 new tractor was mostly
metric except for the tires and wheels. Other than JD, all tractors are
made in Yurp or asia. Even the fram stores have metric bolt displays
nearly as big as the SAE bolt displays.

Imperial Gal = 160 FL oz = 4 imperial Qt (40 Fl oz) = 5 US Qts (32 FL
Oz.) All stuff I know off the top of my head.

I am old enough I think in oz, gal, CC and Liters, and also in Inches to
miles and from mm to kliks and can easily convert back and forth.

I Refuse to use newton-meter as it make NO sense, but I am comfortable
with Ft-lb or M-kg.

I have arrived at a state where temperature makes sense to me in
metric now. For a long while I converted but I now know that 20 is ok

I still convert to miles per gallon to figure out how well my vehicle

it would make little sense to you anyway.

[MBZ] for the H-> Bernie supporters

2016-08-19 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes

Tax the rich

From the Desk of Ernie Goss
(Professor of Economics, Creighton University, Omaha)

The Politics of Economics:
Super Rich Meet in Omaha and Propose Tax Hike

Millionaire Hillary Clinton and billionaire Warren Buffet met in Omaha
earlier this month to trumpet higher income tax rates on upper income
earners. Ignoring the data, the two super-rich, joined by income
laggards Dallas Maverick owner Mark Cuban and former New York Mayor
Michael Bloomberg, argue that levying higher tax burdens on workers in
the top income bracket will reduce income inequality.

However between 1980 and 2013 when income inequality, as measured by the
Gini Coefficient, expanded by 22.2% the share of federal income taxes
paid by the highest one-fifth of earners rose from 64.7% to 88.0% while
the share paid by the lowest one-fifth declined from +0.1% to -4.0%
(i.e. tax rebates greater than tax payments). Even the middle income's
share dropped from 10.7% to 3.9% over the 33 years.

Taxing high income individuals more heavily does not reduce income
inequality because excessively high tax rates on these earners:

Discourages individuals from pursing higher education and training
to increase income;
Encourages individuals to reduce work efforts and to increase
leisure activity;
Restrains small business formation and risk taking by entrepreneurs
seeking greater financial returns;
Incentivizes individuals to spend excessively on goods and services
that are deductible from taxes; and

Encourages high income individuals to move to lower tax nations.

Unfortunately for the economy, envy economics, as evidenced in Omaha in
August, remains a viable political tool by generating votes and
self-righteous smugness from its devotees.

Sister had one of those in the late '40s. It could be dangerous because its
early automatic would kick out of gear if you gave it a little too much gas.
Mechanic said it was designed to do that because it had brass gears that would
strip with excessive torque or misalignment of gear teeth. Pulling out into
Richmonds traffic and having it kick out of gear could be exciting since you
had to wait for the engine to wind down so it would go back into gear. It's
flathead 6 cylinder engine wasn't a powerhouse.

Re: [MBZ] 2004 Mercedes 320E 4matic Oil Change Question

2016-08-19 Thread Mitch Haley via Mercedes
Anything between 6.0 and 8.0L should be OK.

My E320 (1999) has a dipstick, and the dash display says full, add 1.0 qt, add
1.5qt, add 2.0qt. When it gets to 2.0, alarms chime and the display comes up
automatically.

I always just threw in 2 gallons at an oil change, which barely got it to full,
and then added a quart every time it said it was 1.5 low.

[MBZ] 2004 Mercedes 320E 4matic Oil Change Question

Hi All,

Today I changed the oil on my 2004 320ED 4matic using a Topsider and
extracting the oil from the top. I patiently waited a couple of hours to make
sure all the oil was drained and the topsider indicated that 8.0 liters were

stick in that year so I checked it electronically according to the manual.
Followed instructions exactly including the car being totally level. I
consistently get a reading of 7.5 liters.

In addition I bought an after market dip stick(KM808), the type you can't leave
in the car because it is too long. The reading on the dip stick 110 mm. Has
anyone else experienced this issue?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: [MBZ] 1995 Mercedes Benz S350d Diesel! Super rare!! Very clean!! Rare color! $7500

2016-08-19 Thread Donald Snook via Mercedes
By 1995 was the rod bender issue already resolved? With 175K I would guess
that if the problem wasn't addressed by then that this car has had the repair.
Great looking car!

How much you all think this is really worth? As nice as it is I say 5k or less.
I am real tempted to try and raise the cash to buy it if I could get it for 5k
or less. He started at 10k a month or 2 ago and was at 8 for a while.

nope. That IS sacrilege. The M180 is smooth and quiet. A 350 is not.

That and the electric fuel pump. Suggests an uninformed mechanic who made
bad choices for repairs.

It does looks nice, except for the "upgrades" to the fuel system which are
anything but.

I put an electric fuel pump on a vw to cure the combination of no

apology.

However, Weber carbs are regarded as an upgrade, not butchery. The

It ia analogous to the Carter/Holly arguments among muscle car

but it IS a lot easier to work on and may deliver better performance.

I agree with Max, that every used MB has some things that need to be
undone and done correctly, or to the owner's taste.

Good point, may be other similar "repairs" not disclosed. All the cheap
Mercedes I've bought have arrived with "repairs" that needed to be undone, the
real problem diagnosed and then properly repaired.
