[MBZ] Excess W123 grilles

Deduct $1k for having to deal with airmatic.  Replacement air springs can be 
had for less than $300 a pair.  FoolTube videos from Arnott show the job taking 
about 75 minutes for both sides.

Make me a reasonable offer.  

Only PITA at the moment is the front suspension.  The pump is ok, might be a 
leak on a spring or the distributor.  The rear wheels were on the ground in 
April, but my indy cleared the codes and tossed in a new relay.  That seemed to 
make the system work for a few weeks, then, probably for not driving it, the 
front end leaked down.

Correct

I just made a list of all the “upgrades”.  There a a bunch.  Replaced most of 
the interior parts, lights, paint and full filters/fluids, as well as tires.  
Turns out the engine is a rebuilt with only 15k on the clock.  I did not 
remember that.   I wonder what impact that has on value

they did the dirty deed on his say so with no paperwork.  He tried to steal the 
car from the body shop and send it to Coparts.  It seems this sort of thing 
happens a bunch, as there is a special section of DOL dedicated to dealing with 
this.  I put in a call, but they are really busy overturning adjusters who crap 
on people

the car up, the POS W220 kacked its speedo and then shat its airmatic.   To 
make either car work again, the investment is the same.  But I think the SD is 
a more reliable car, as the W220 is a cascade failure of epic proportions

[MBZ] New W210 Wagon

Got the oil and filter changed, found the cowl trim pieces were brittle as 
glass and pretty much shattered when I removed them to clean the schmutz 
underneath.  Very common on W210 chassis cars, so much so that the dealers 
stock the parts and they’re pretty cheap.

Fought to reset the FSS until I found a very obscure reference that said you 
had to have the doors closed to do it.  I had been trying while sitting in the 
car with the driver’s door open.  Grrr.

a real professional.  Machine made crimps, the proper Metra adapter harness to 
go directly to the car’s harness without hacking things up, everything bundled 
and tie wrapped, very, very nicely done.

I’m going to swap the Becker 3309 out of his car into mine and he’ll get the 
fancy Pioneer with all the bells and whistles.

Tomorrow if the weather permits (we’re supposed to have a big tropical low 
pressure system over us tomorrow) I’ll clay bar the exterior, wax and detail, 
and maybe change the differential oil and replace some burned out lamps.

Already got a set of Mercedes carpeted floor mats coming in on the Tuesday 
dealer stock order.  Gotta get a couple liters of hydraulic fluid to flush the 
SLS (it’s really nasty looking), a filter for the SLS, and a few other odds and 
ends.  I need to order another SmartKey so I have two, but I can’t do that 
until I get my title.

For now I’m turning in for the night.

Most of the cars up for auction are owned by insurance companies, I'm not sure 
how much they pay in seller's fees, but the buyer's fees are pretty 
substantial, especially if a private individual buys a car for over $5k.
I've seen a few cars marked as 'remarketing', those must be the ones that 
copart owns after buying them from individuals.

You can register to bid for free and it lets you participate in the auctions 
and see what they sell for. If you don't give them an upfront deposit, your bid 
button goes out when a car hits $1000. If a car is only available to dealers 
(most cars) your bid button goes out and it says you aren't eligible to bid on 
that one. 

Sign up, search for W220s, put them in your watchlist and participate in the 
auctions. When you hear 'your watched item is next', pay attention and write 
down the final bid price. You'll get a feel for what they sell for pretty 
quick.

[MBZ] Coparts

I am not sure how this thing works.  If I register, can I send the W220 to them 
to auction off for me?  Do these guys purchase it from me, and them make bank 
on it, or is is something where  I set a minimum sale price/buy now?

How does the insurance thing work?  Do they really sell it to Coparts, or is 
the $350 fee to cover selling cost and insco makes big bank if the car sells?

I am looking at Mercedes for sale there and it seems that my car would be a 
sure cash cow where any payout to me will be more than recouped in a sale.  

Might be why the adjuster was so swift to alert the DOL that title needed to be 
salvage, even before alerting me that he was going to total it.  Paperwork from 
the state was sent early monday morning, which leads me to think he had not yet 
heard my refusal of his offer.  State agencies are not that swift on a normal 
day.

I have stuffed the checks mailed me into a folder and will not process them.  I 
told the adjuster I am not accepting his checks and they will remain filed 
until I get a reasonable settlement.   I have been paying all other costs, but 
for the rental car that they are picking up, not part of the settlement.

I have made two complaints to the insurance commissioner.  Most recent details 
each statute he violated.  I expect there will be fire works when his pee pee 
is whacked.

That sounds way way way too expensive. It's likely going to need oil cooler 
seals which is a MAJOR job, which I am going to need to do on the wife's r320 
which is the same engine. That engine is OK but is WAY more difficult to work 
on than the old 61x or 60x engines. You will certainly need the laptop to do 
just about anything.

That's the model I bought 3 mts ago. Only problem I've had with was the 
interface
between key and the BCM. Also had a Ox sender and the harness changed, 
harness

was under a MB TSB. Total cost was under 350.
Getting 29.7 ~ 33.1 Hwy 24.5 ~ 27.2 mixed town hwy driving.

is so quiet, that SWMBO "sneaked" up behind me in yard coupla days ago, & I

Reminds me of the guy who harassed a redtail hawk with a RC sailplane.
Once the hawk had enough, it was flap-flap-stoop-boom and two wings slowly 
fluttered to earth while the fuselage did a lawn dart impersonation. He was 
impressed with how quickly and effortlessly the hawk gained altitude for the 
stoop, and how hard it hit the plane from such a shallow dive.

[MBZ] To Boost or Not to Boost.

Despite the constant droning, I would like to interrupt with a question about 
EGR/Turbo boost on my W123.

On the return from the Chowdah Q this year, my wagon felt like it was wandering 
in and out of turbo boost.

Today took out the banjo bolt from the back of the intake manifold and, e 
viola! mostly blocked. Cleaned and reassembled OK.

Being the curious type, investigation of the EGR valve found that the port was 
totally blocked with hard carbon.

My question is, can the manifold be cleaned with out removal?

Comments. Suggestions. Bon mots?

Definitely looks like a good deal.  I bought the girl's E320 for $2800, 
it is in nice shape.  She had to replace the radiator and alternator on 
it, but I guess that stuff is just to be expected. Paint looks good on

I assume you know better than to deposit or cash a check form them, even if 
it’s considered partial payment.  That would be considered acceptance of their 
terms as I understand it.

And I heartily agree with the others advice of engaging your state insurance 
licensing folks.  Here in FL they are feared by the insurance companies 
according to a friend who runs a very large and successful State Farm agency.
