[MBZ] OT: Trucks
Today I procured a potential donor, or at least a temporary (?) fill-in. $1450 for the 1996 V10 4x4 extended cab long-bed. Same basic truck as mine, but with a V10 and an automatic. Rattly POS at this point, with a weak tranny. Still, don't need it to be much, except intact where it counts and able to haul itself to surgery, while hauling some things around for us until then. About $2150 down the road, with some used tires that are actually round. I suspect that the tranny's problem is that it starts in 2, and only goes to 3. Re: [MBZ] headlamp connector melted
The headlight wiring on my 91 300D melted within a year of me buying the car. Bought a replacement from a re-cycler in NC and never had any more problems with it. Good luck to you! LarryT 91 300D 06 E350 On 05/01/2018 5:27 PM, Dan Penoff via Mercedes wrote: The rationale behind using relays is to reduce voltage drop to the lamps by using a much larger gauge wire directly to the lamp (through a relay to handle the higher current) from the power source, e.g., the B+ terminal on the alternator or battery terminal. The stock wiring can introduce enough resistance to cause a 1-2 volt drop, giving the lamp less than 12 volts at the terminals. Dan Stern’s web site spells all this out in painful detail, but if I recall, a drop in one volt from the design operating voltage can cause a significant reduction in light output. The problem with the H4 lamps is that they have a much smaller surface area for the connector, so if there is the slightest amount of corrosion the resistance across the connector creates heat and melts the connector body. -D On May 1, 2018, at 4:56 PM, Randy Bennell via Mercedeswrote: But supposed to help make the standard bulbs brighter so you don't need to buy the higher wattage bulbs. Re: [MBZ] Is anybody in here?
This is what my loader looks like when off the tractor: http://kioti.dyndns.org/kl451.jpg The hydraulic lines have quick couplers. The only mechanical fastener is one big pin on each side (in the brackets on the left) that locks the loader brackets into the towers on the mount. Removal was surprisingly easy. Remounting requires driving back to the loader so the mount towers and loader bracket align and reconnecting hydraulics. Then curling down to rotate the bracket into place and installing those big pins. Those legs (which telescope in and get pinned to the bottom of the boom) are key to removal and installation. Curling the bucket causes the whole loader to pivot in or out of the mount towers. You can see I lost one of the feet. It sounds like your setup is more cumbersome. I had to remove the loader to fix the injection pump (broken gear teeth on a control sleeve). The IP is an inline jerk pump, somewhat like my 300 SD (Mercedes content). > -Original Message- > From: Randy Bennell via Mercedes > Sent: Tuesday, May 01, 2018 4:02 PM > > On 01/05/2018 12:07 PM, Curt Raymond via Mercedes wrote: > > The loader on my machine is homemade. The nice thing about Holiday Inn now is they've got both Intercontinental and Kimpton under their umbrella. Last year I did a week in Miami (well Doral but...) at an Intercontinental. It was $20 more a night than a Holiday Inn but the customer wanted me to work a Sunday and it was the week before Christmas... Angie and I used Holiday Inn points to stay at the Intercontinental Chicago a couple years ago for our anniversary. In June we're going to the International Coleman Collectors Convention in Huntsville, Alabama. It was half price to fly into Nashville so we're going to spend a day/night there at a Kimpton for free on points. The car for the week is free too, a benefit of corporate travel. -Curt On Tuesday, May 1, 2018, 9:30:34 PM EDT, Dan Penoff via Mercedeswrote: When I was traveling for business on domestic trips I tried to stick with Holiday Inn. [MBZ] Battery
Spousal unit said her SL500 wasn’t happy about cranking tonight when she was done filling it up at the gas station. I had previously gone through the charging system when the car was out of service a few months ago while she was recovering from surgery. I knew a battery was in its future, but the NAPA battery that was in it seemed happy after a healthy charge. Initially I was going to have her swing by the dealer tomorrow and have them drop a new MB battery in, but I had some concerns as to whether or not the battery would start the car again, even after charging all night. I checked my local Advance Auto and ended up using a $10 coupon and a 25% off promo code (Mitch would be proud of me) to buy an Autocraft Gold battery out the door for $131.00 with a 3 year free replacement warranty. I would have gone AGM for another $30, but they didn’t have a Group 49 AGM in stock. Got in the door five minutes before they closed. Spent all of maybe 10 minutes swapping the batteries out (I had a spare I was able to take for the core) and resetting the windows and such. Done and ready to go. -D ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Probably. The bucket needs a redesign anyway, its a small(ish) bucket from a Kubota, way overkill for this application and too big/heavy for my machine. Re: [MBZ] headlamp connector melted
The rationale behind using relays is to reduce voltage drop to the lamps by using a much larger gauge wire directly to the lamp (through a relay to handle the higher current) from the power source, e.g., the B+ terminal on the alternator or battery terminal. -D > On May 1, 2018, at 4:56 PM, Randy Bennell via Mercedes >wrote: > > But supposed to help make the standard bulbs brighter so you don't need to > buy the higher wattage bulbs. > I have no idea if that applies to this particular situation but I know from > experience that when my son complained that the lights were not bright enough > in his old Maxima, I got him some higher wattage bulbs and they caused > trouble with some sort of circuit board. But supposed to help make the standard bulbs brighter so you don't need to buy the higher wattage bulbs. Interesting that Thorium may be making a comeback in consideration. As it happens, I am currently reading a book which was written in 2012 by Richard Martin called "Super Fuel" "Thorium, the green energy source for the future". In the introduction chapters it talks to how post WW2 Thorium was given a look, a pilot plant was built, [government funding, of course] then canceled because it did not produce weapons grade material for more bomb making.. [cold war era government think prevailed]. Thus, Thorium was put of not just the back burner, but what was learned was destroyed..[more government think]. Re: [MBZ] Is anybody in here?
The loader on my machine is homemade. The worst thing is that the pins are actually bolts. Whoever machined the grease paths in the bolts did a good job but it was hard getting everything straight to take apart. I have a sneaking suspicion theres a little twist in the frame which made it hard to align all the bits. Actually now that I think of it the fact that the bucket won't sit flat on the floor is probably part of the problem... Once I get the hydraulics sorted reworking the bucket is on the short list. The curl cylinder is setup all wrong so you can actually swing the bucket so far down it can't pull it back up... -Curt On Tuesday, May 1, 2018, 12:35:54 AM EDT, Scott Ritchey via Mercedeswrote: My Kioti instructions say ONLY remove/install the loader with the bucket attached. On mine. You raise the loader, extend the loader stands, lower the loader until the stands touch the ground, and curl down until the lip of the bucket touches the ground. Then pull the two bug pins, put the boom in float, and curl up until the loader posts clear the mount (and front wheels). Finally, disconnect the hydraulic quick connectors and back the tractor away from the loader. It was not hard. IMO. Putting the loader back on is harder. To the extent possible, do this on a hard flat surface and put plywood (or something) under the legs so they don't sink into the dirt. > -Original Message- > From: Mercedes [mailto:mercedes-boun...@okiebenz.com] On Behalf Of > Curt Raymond via Mercedes > Sent: Monday, April 30, 2018 3:57 PM > To: Mercedes Discussion List > Cc: Curt Raymond > Subject: Re: [MBZ] Is anybody in here? > > I spent some time taking the loader off my tractor.
