We should use the recently perished obese to render into transportation fuels.
Lots of heavy folks who would be better used that way than wasted in boxes or

There was a thermal depolymerization plant set up for ConAgra that used Turkey
offal to make diesel. I am not sure why it failed, but the plant closed down.
Maybe they were unable to process the feed stock fast enough to overcome the
stench of death. Probably the Finns are less prone to having enviro weenies
wanting to limit fuel production or petro giants not interested in allowing for
bio fuels

[MBZ] W126 adventures

2018-08-15 Thread clay monroe via Mercedes
I replaced the valve cover in the SD last weekend and then spent the week
losing about two gallons of oil because the cover gasket was not seating
properly. It is now secure and having been shy a quart of oil at one point, I
had to toss in a quart of ATF so I could get home. This seems to have had a
salubrious impact upon the engine, as now, the pressure is constantly pegged at
3 bar, where it had been dropping to around 1.5 bar at hot.

The aux fan that came with the car was perished and I replaced it last summer.
The thing never came on in the past year. Fan is good, but there is some evil
pixie in the system keeping it from coming on. I decided to wire in a switch
to operate it manually. Now I have a blue LED that comes on to alert me that I
have to turn it all off when I leave the car. I am now able to have added
colding for the ACC.

The SDL came to me with perished seat bottoms. I changed the interior color to
green instead of the grey it was born with. I had replaced the driver seat
with a camel out of an SEL last summer. I finally got around to pulling the
passenger seat today. I had some PnP grey seat parts, back and bottom, but
they were driver side. The bottom was in really good shape, whereas, the seat
back had standard wear issues. I had done the color change anyway. Now I will
mate the good bottom to the original seat back and have a good seat.

It was a PITA getting the bottoms off the rails. AT least the seat motors are
all good and fully functional.

Re: [MBZ] Windmill tower wastefullness WUZ: OT (for Rich): Ongoing nuke soap opera in SC

2018-08-15 Thread Karl Wittnebel via Mercedes
A farm went up in our area recently. None of these concerns were show
stoppers actually. Any farmer would be happy to farm around them if the
price is right.

The wake issue means no field would ever have more than one or two
turbines. Maximum.

The problems accrue mainly from the way revenue is shared. Most fields in a
wind farm project have no towers at all. You sign on, and if they choose
your land for a tower, you get more money. If not, you receive a smaller
amount that might cover taxes on the ground, but not much more.

Many people would consider the no tower option a win. You give up some
development rights you would probably never otherwise use, and they might
need access to bury a power line across your field, or need to build a road
across, but all these features are compensated at specified rates per acre.

All cleanup procedures and removal criteria are specified in the lease in
the event the turbines are not used.

Older leases had issues because certain towers were preferentially shut
down when not needed, so if the agreement was revenue tied to a certain
turbine, and yours was shut down all the time when your neighbors was
operating, you would feel unfairly treated.

So there are all sorts of ways a person might feel it was a good or a bad
thing. South Dakota, incidentally, prohibits utilities from purchasing
power from individuals, which is such a rigged game it is laughable.

But I would say these and similar concerns take priority over whether wind
power is green or well founded or not in theory. Land owners will take the
money if the deal is felt to be fair. If someone else thinks they are
eyesores or difficult to remove, or thinks hurting the productivity of the
land is somehow problematic, then too bad. The leases are a bit complex and
it is a caveat emptor, long term deal, but that is no different than
mineral development rights contracts have ever been.

Some of it depends on the care taken in installation. (Generally little

compacted by the construction will take decades to return to the
original productivity.

If you drive your pickup across a field today, next year the tracks will
be seen in the field map as lower yield. Yes, that is how accurate the
current precision farming apps are.

The towers abandoned by HELCO about 20 years ago are still there. Ugly,
rusty, and unused. They cost too much to take down to cover it by the
scrap value.

I don't know the current base dimensions. Somewhere around 300 to 400
square feet per tower, I'd guess.

Each tower probably lowers the productivity on about an acre, I'd guess,
allowing for all the truck and crane traffic.

multiply that by thousands of towers, and you start to get the picture.

Well, this just doesn't ring true - "The product has almost the same
chemical makeup as diesel made from fossil
fuels but emits a fraction of the carbon emissions." Sounds like a
perpetual motion machine - BS.
You can't get energy from combining long chain carbon molecules with oxygen
without carbon emissions, CO2 in specific, along with H2O.
Hmm - those in drought areas need to be condensing and saving all that H2O
that is coming from their tailpipe!

Well, this is the perfect solution for the USA and maybe the world. Get all

Best patch would be a section of the rubber cut from an identical gasket
(have a used gasket around? Nearby pick-n-pull?).

Soaked floor matts = water under the carpets. You'll probably need to
remove all the seats and the center console, pull out the carpet and let it

[MBZ] Low E Finnish diesel substitute made from animal fats

2018-08-15 Thread Andrew Strasfogel via Mercedes
This oil company is turning animal fat into dieselPublished: Wednesday,
August 15, 2018

Finnish company Neste Oil is turning animal fat and plant oil into
renewable diesel — and outperforming some traditional oil majors.

The product has almost the same chemical makeup as diesel made from fossil
fuels but emits a fraction of the carbon emissions. The company has seen
its share price increase by more than 600 percent since it started turning
a profit from renewable diesel in 2013.

"I can tell you, nobody believed us," said CEO Matti Lievonen. "We
innovated something completely different — never in the marketplace. That
was the breakthrough."

Research shows that renewable fuels such as Neste's diesel can cut total
greenhouse gas emissions by 60 percent or more, according to Robert
McCormick, a senior research fellow at the National Renewable Energy
Laboratory.

According to the company, its products have reduced emissions by 8.3
million tons. That's the same as taking 3 million cars off the road.

Neste's success isn't necessarily a template for other companies, though.
"In today's market, I don't think these biofuels would be close to price
competitive without the various incentives that are in place," said
McCormick. "If something were to drive the price of oil up to $150 or $200,
well, that could make a difference" (Sarah Kent, *Wall Street Journal*
,
Aug. 14). *— KB*

So, what's the rating on the panels, 200-300w?
And how many days does it take to get 60 kwh out of them?

From what I can remember of my earlier investigations into the subject, I could
plan on 3-4x the rated output per day if I installed a system (.75-1.0kwh/day
for a 250w panel)

I take it you have microinverters on each panel?
