[MBZ] UAE Vehicle-age

2018-10-10 Thread Bob Rentfro via Mercedes
For the scant five days I was in Abu Dhabi I noticed the following:
Etihad Airways has a huge fleet of black e200 wagons. Awesome wagon.
I noticed immediately that each Mercedes had the odd factory badging, “EMC” on
the right. I was unfamiliar with that so I asked and found out that EMC is
Emirates MotorCompany and that they sell so many cars the Fatherland send them
over with their badging installed. Weird
All the taxis, I mean ALL of the taxis there are Camrys.
Anyone who is anyone has a huge, white SUV. Nissan Patrols, Toyota Sequoias,
Toyota Fortrunners (yes, Fortrunner). Ginormous Lexus’ with odd badging.
The Supercars are not as prevalent as I expected.
Speed humps are everywhere. You go from 100km/hr to a speedhump in like 100
yards. It’s nuts.
VWs are almost nonexistent except for the occasional R Golf.
When you visit Yas Mall or the Ace Hardware or the IKEA some dude will give
your ride a first class hand wash where it sits for 25 dihrim.

I prefer the USA . ‘Merica

[MBZ] Woodstock, Georgia

2018-10-10 Thread Mike Esh via Mercedes
Is anyone around Woodstock, Georgia that could look at a 300D for me. The
engine is out and I just want to ensure it is as rust free as the seller
claims. I am thinking of having it shipped to Michigan or driving down and
hauling it back on a tow dolly.
I will get the address if anyone is around and could take a look.
Thanks,

2018-10-10 Thread clay monroe via Mercedes
I think is is more than an 8 hour shift. There may even be another fellow who
actually drives the tanker to fetch fuel. The cost for downtime on the pumps
runs to multi millions per second according to #1 boy. It is his buddy who has
this responsibility. I think the greater skill is the ability to piddle in a
bottle, hold your sphincter for ages, be willing to roast in excessive summer
temps, and remain warm enough at 50+ below, in real degrees.

Eight hours a day?
You're dreaming.

I've got a client who drives tankers in ND for more money than was mentioned
earlier.
Maybe I'll ask him how many hours he works in a year.

Also have a few guys who drive local for $60-100k per year, sleep in their own
beds every night.
One of the guys who's closer to 100k was complaining about his overtime last
time I talked to him, wants his employer to hire more guys and spread the
workload around.

Thanks. Should be in interesting watching how Michael plays out.
Forecasting models are more and more accurate, so I don't expect there will
be any huge surprise. Their biggest difficulty is in predicting how much a
storm will strengthen, or weaken as it passes over tropical waters..

What? Is that *really* a thing? I'd like to see a job notice on that one.
How do they even describe that? "You'll sit in the cab of a truck 8 hours a

will pull away for another truck to take your place." ??

2018-10-10 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
Just looked at the wind graphics, I think the winds will diminish quite
rapidly over land.  Looks like it is also going to be a bit further
inland so the coastal areas won't get much, maybe some where it heads
offshore again up around OBX.  I'm sure the vast estate will get some
blow and a bit of rain, but maybe not too much.

Yes they are both 2.65.

I will also have an extra 185mm 2.65 diff shortly, as I am swapping to the
210mm stuff with LSD.

Worn clips wont cause the knock.

Changing those bearings and seals is easy. You can also do the pinion seal.

Parts of it. There are some pretty heavily populated parts where it’s moving

We’re getting rain bands from the hurricane, but it’s an otherwise typical day

I think the seller has a problem counting.

240D, 5 cylinder, 5 speed manual. As I understand, a 5 speed
transmission was available from the factory - but MBUSA never
imported one. So to get a 5 speed manual would mean "modified" or
"grey-market/euro".
