I should have added my notes about ordering:

-
24 Mar 2018

Done - Looked at Walker website,

http://www.walkerexhaust.com/catalog/converter-part-number-search,

and the Summit Racing website,

https://www.summitracing.com/search/product-line/walker-quiet-flow-3-mufflers?PageSize=100=DisplayPrice=Ascending=Quiet-fl=Walker

comparing specs and prices.

For most of the Summit Racing parts, Rock Auto has lower prices,
which means I will take advantage of Summit's price matching.

It depends upon how quiet you want it and how much work you are willing
to do to support a larger muffler.

In looking for a muffler for our 3-cylinder Cat C1.1 diesel engine, I
found a number of mufflers by the Walker company I could choose between.
In general, the larger the volume of the muffler the more the quieting.

Check out http://www.walkerexhaust.com/products/commercial-products
The Quiet Flow SS line is commented in their blog as being a very good
muffler. I have attached a spreadsheet of the mufflers at which I looked.
It was a slow process, since the website does not let one browse easily.
I ended up incrementing through part numbers and copying the specs of the
ones which appeared useful -- and I was looking for something VERY quiet.

You probably will have different desires and needs.

Re: [MBZ] Garage A/c Wuz:Test Message

2019-07-24 Thread Scott Ritchey via Mercedes
My building is 16x32 ft, 2-story. But I only condition one downstairs 16x20
"finished" room, which means sheetrock on inside walls but zero insulation.
The tongue-and groove floor and ceiling are pretty leaky. The upstairs and
other downstairs room (workshop) are actually drafty on a windy winter day.
No problem keeping below 80 in summer. The heat pump works hard in winter but
keeps the indoor temp above 60. I live in north-central NC, almost in VA. So
we see summer temps in the 90s and winter temps in the 20s and sometimes teens.

Re: [MBZ] AC options for 300SD

2019-07-24 Thread Scott Ritchey via Mercedes
My 79 123 (TD) and 82 126 (SD), had the same R4 compressor setup. MBZ version
has metric threads in addition to the inverted oil pickup compared to the GM
version. As I recall Pierre was a fan of CompressorWorks and sealing washers
(vs ordinary O-rings) where the manifold bolts to the R4 compressor, especially
on Diesels.

Same here, but I was not very successful with crow and chicken feathers. I
also didn't know what I was doing, which didn't help any. I still do carry
a "pen knife" though ...
My mother used a long handled Shaeffer fountain pen, with green ink
exclusively for writing letters, etc. I still have a collection of various
colored inks in bottles, don't know if they are still good though.

Wow! Did you write with quill pens? My father, who was born in 1862, made his own quill pens for a one room country school from turkey feathers and the ink was made from fruit juice. I wonder what is going on in European schools? Are they leading or following
the changes in American schools?

On the other hand, if there is no real purpose - why develop the

How many of us are competent with driving a 4-in-hand team of

Or what is the value of knowing how to start a car with a

Conversely, are you any better than me with the tiny, no-tactile

me! Meaning the skill of using a tiny keyboard is much more
practical than writing with a quill and ink well.

The oil feed is internal. I think one simply takes off the front cap, rotates
it 180 degrees, and install with fresh seals. That will allow oil to flow to
front seal, maybe the bearing too? Not sure of the construction.

[MBZ] Slammed and stanced!

2019-07-24 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
So it looks like slamming 211s is now A Desirable Thing so I'm thinking
I could sell this $500E500 with blown air shocks to someone in the W211
group for some big money.  Already slammed.  I could stick some 1" wood
blocks in there to get the fenders off the tires so at least it could
roll, the stance is sick!  I might need to find some 19s though, just to
complete the look.

Re: [MBZ] $500E300 crash

2019-07-24 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
There is a module on the 211 that is connected to the airbags and
ignition and whatever else, apparently the fancy computer is needed to
do some resets too.  I posted in benzworld, will see if I get any info
on what this car has and where it is and what needs to be done with it.

The idea is to disable the electrical system to prevent a "Hollywood crash
fire". Might be worth a call to AAA, or a Dealer to find the location and
the reset required.

So back to the crash --- I am presuming there is some sort of ignition
cutout somewhere so that when the airbag deployed it shut the car off.
Now it won't start or turn over, still has power etc. Is that in the
airbag module? Or is there a reset somewhere? Need a computer to reset
it?

2019-07-24 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
Typically, the crash shutoff relay trigger is hidden in some obscure place,
like the Pax side foot well, or in some area that is out of the crush zone.
The idea is to disable the electrical system to prevent a "Hollywood crash
fire". Might be worth a call to AAA, or a Dealer to find the location and
the reset required.
