No that’s not the end of the story because the emissions from a Tesla are not
zero! Electricity generation causes emissions. Period, end of story! Ok now
that’s the end of the story!

No worse than the 230 that Todd had and sold to Kleb. It went to Okie Acres as
a decent car that just needed a threaded insert in one of the spark plug holes.
It rusted to a junker and got sold off for far less than it had been worth when
it was decent.

I wanted that car but was working on coming up with the cash when it was sold

I got really ticked because a nice 110 200D got crushed in 2001.   Guy
had it for sale in MN for $5k.  I wanted it for parts.   He would not
budge on price.  It was a decent car but they were not bringing 5k.   I
kept calling him every so often.   The last time he said he donated it.
The place he donated it to just sold cars for scrap.  I chased it
through the tow company to the crusher.  They all remembered it, but it
had already been crushed.

The seller was a jerk.  the car deserved better.

No, but ordinary pipe insulation does help.

We had such an arrangement in our last house in Colorado Springs.

The kitchen was above the utility room in the basement. The line from the
hot water tank was insulated and then at the kitchen faucet a tee enabled
another copper line to go back to the hot water heater's drain valve
(which had been removed and a tee inserted to allow both the drain valve
and the returning copper line).

The heat loss from the bare copper return pipe slightly cooled down the
water in it making its density slightly greater than the water in the
insulated supply pipe, thus causing the thermally-induced circulation.

You can, but it doesn’t make a lot of difference I believe. The thermal

I did the same in the massive monolith we lived in in Indiana. The farthest
upstairs bathroom was nearly 80 linear feet away measuring the pipe. Just
plumbed in a line parallel to the manifold that ran across the basement ceiling
with a “T” and down to a “T” I installed behind the drain valve of the water
heater. It thermal cycled hot water through about 40 of the 80 foot run, so the
youngest son didn’t have to run 20 gallons of water until he got hot water…
crude but effective.

[MBZ] Tesla Model 3: More "Global Climate Change" than a Mercedes

2019-10-10 Thread Mitch Haley via Mercedes

Driving A Tesla Results In More CO2 Than A Mercedes Diesel Car, Study Finds
https://dailycaller.com/2019/04/24/tesla-carbon-dioxide-mercedes

Tesla Model 3 is touted as a zero-emissions car by government regulators, but
it actually results in more carbon dioxide than a comparable diesel-powered
car, according to a recent study.

When the CO2 emissions from battery production is included, electric cars, like
Teslas, are “in the best case, slightly higher than those of a diesel engine,
and are otherwise much higher,” reads a release from the German think tank IFO.

“It’s better read as a warning that new technologies aren’t a climate-change
panacea. Recall the false promises about corn and cellulosic ethanol,” The Wall
Street Journal editorial board wrote of the study. (RELATED: 2020 Democrats
Back Plan That’s Already Raising Electricity Prices)

Driving a Tesla Model 3 in Germany, for example, is responsible for 156 to 181
grams of CO2 per kilometer, compared to just 141 grams per kilometer for a
diesel-powered Mercedes C220d — that includes emissions from producing diesel
fuel.

Re: [MBZ] Honest auto shipping

2019-10-10 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
I'm starting to think about a new pickup and the Dodge 3.0l diesel is high on
my list. Our 2010 Dodge is starting to show signs of the tin worm, at 9 years
old and 138,000 miles I'm thinking it might make sense to trade it sooner
rather than later. I usually keep pickups until they're 11 years old but this
one has cost us very little to have which makes me wonder if we've got a bill
looming.

2019-10-10 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
We went from an '03 Ranger to a 2010 Dodge RAM 1500. The Dodge actually gets
BETTER fuel economy than the Ranger did while being a whole lot more capable
and much more comfortable going down the road.

I'll admit I did like taking the Ranger in the woods, it was small and could
sneak in a lot of places the Dodge can't.
The new Colorado/Canyon is a much better truck than the previous ones which
felt really cheap. I'd also check out the new Ranger, its about the same size.
The Nissan Frontier is also a pretty nice truck. Surprisingly I didn't like the
Tacoma at all although I did consider a Tundra.

It’s the DAS Xentry HHTWIN latestgreatest MB software combo on a laptop.
Ordered it from a Chinese vendor off AliExpress. Was like $600 which is a lot
but I guess buying a cheap nice car and getting it running sorta justifies it
now. Finally got it to work right, I must have been doing something wrong with
it before. I’ll get the link.

Now I need to check out the SL600 and the ML320 and see what’s up with them.
The ML has a similar problem with the tranny apparently but I was not
successful before at trying to figure it out, will try again now that I
blundered into success.
