The Bosch machines, at least the ones I’ve had, all have a removable
screen in the base that bits of food and other detritus land in. These
need to be cleaned out every few weeks. I can’t imagine the pump problem

2020-06-18 Thread Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes
I just watched a few videos and pulled the screen out and the cover for the
pump inlet. There was nothing blocking it and the impeller turned free. Pulled
hose off the disposal and it was clear. Examined the hose down to the back and
bottom of the washer and it was clear. Maybe there is something jammed up in
the motor behind the impellers but they turn free. I’m not going to take it
apart any further and will just wait a couple of weeks until the home warranty
kicks in and let them fix it.

The Pallas is the "luxury" trim level. It should have better than poorly
fitting (possibly homemade?) cloth upholstery and loose rumpled
carpet. It probably should have leather.

How much nicer do these interiors look?

And I'm just saying, if you're trying to make the best possible
impression, at least clean out the car before you take pictures.

had to do a valve job but otherwise it performed well. Sold it to doctor

His dishwasher is throwing a code. He needs to dig deeper to figure out what it
means.

The Bosch machines, at least the ones I’ve had, all have a removable screen in
the base that bits of food and other detritus land in. These need to be cleaned
out every few weeks. I can’t imagine the pump problem being related to a
clogged screen, as it’s only a portion of the inlet to the pump and even if
clogged wouldn’t totally restrict it.

I did this with an Oregon car I once bought to flip. The surrounds were badly
cracked,
missing some small chunks, and full of water and algae I just dried it out and
used wood
and Bondo to repair the holes, then painted them silver. Basically zero cost,
and very little
labor, using shop supplies that would have gone bad anyway. Swapping to
pristine surrounds
would have been easy, if the next owner wanted to do this. There was no ROI on
it for me.

Yes I do clean out the filter in the bottom but it’s been mainly her and the

I love it too. I am wondering if the discharge line got plugged up. If it’s not
something simple then it will have to wait until the home warranty kicks in
next month.

Hmmm is right. What’s with the driver’s carpet being missing and the string of
wires hanging off the steering column? That doesn’t elicit feelings of
confidence.

Would need to know more about the transmission “issues” as well.

Kleb, go offer them $5k and you can tart up your pile ‘o’ cars in the back 40.
Make it really classy with the addition of a 6.9.

Not a fan of the painted headlight surrounds.  Love the picture with the
speedometer pegged at 84 mph.  Paint is bad, but if rust free...

 Seller's description…

Fun project car. This is a 1984 Mercedes-Benz 300D turbo diesel. This
vehicle does need a lot of work. The Bad -did overheat and blew its head
gasket - needs some piston rings and I think new pistons -Needs brake
work The Good -Still runs but it burns a lot of oil -Before it
overheated, it ran okay and drove well It is a big project but if you
can do it yourself it would turn out well. Or if you needed it for
parts, that’s good too. Bill of sale only. $500 obo. I moved and don’t
feel like towing it home

Green and a crashbox or not, with the issues they describe it’s far from a
$3500 car. More like $1500.

I went to Costco and Sam's the other day to pick up a few things,
among them frozen burgers. No dice. None. Does anyone know of a good
burger press? I have never had any luck with consistent hand formed
patties. And yeah, I do know a thing or two about burger machines, I
used to work on these in a previous career.

Re: [MBZ] Project for the shade tree mechanic

2020-06-18 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
What’s really strange is that you could probably buy a decent (normal) W111
coupe for that kind of money. There’s many $10s of thousands of dollars ahead
in that car’s life to complete the project. Not to mention the body wasn’t in
great shape, either. It will never have a decent ROI, but then again, people
who do projects like this aren’t in it for the profit, and if they are, they’re
idiots.
