If it's using coolant that rapidly I would think that you would see one
or more of the following if it's due to a head gasket leak:

  - white smoke in the exhaust, and/or smell of ethylene glycol
  - coolant in the oil (milky appearance)
  - oil in the coolant

[MBZ] Problems with the Big Red Van

The tires on the BRV were getting rather worn, so I got a new set of
tires. I then noticed the very slow coolant leak increased dramatically,
requiring me to fill the radiator every time we left the house.

I'm thinking it may have blown a head gasket, but in calling our local
O'Reilly the fellow who I spoke with (after 1700) said they had nothing
to check coolant for combustion gases. I'm thinking I should call again
tomorrow morning, and maybe call the local NAPA as well.

Any suggestions or comments?

I think Norco is what my wife has bags and bags of. She goes to a pain dr for 
these shot in her neck and back. They give her these pills which she hardly 
ever takes. Keeps them around in case of emergency.

 I don't remember for sure, I think it was $1 "and other value 
considerations".We actually inherited but Reg wasn't dead yet. The fear was 
that he would need years in a nursing home and the land would get taken by the 
state and sold at auction. Dad and I were the only ones in the family who both 
wanted the place and had the resources to keep it.
The tax value on the 70 acres with the camp is about $40k but remember we don't 
have any road frontage although there is deeded access, and we don't have 
electricity (well, not grid power) or running water.
The other 15 acres sits right on the river, a good spot for a house but you'd 
need to build the foundation bottom and existing grade and fill in around the 
house to meet flood code. I think that parcel is valued at $20k or so. Or it 
was anyway, news reports say people are "flooding into Arostook county" to 
escape the COVID. I suspect after their first winter they'll flood back.

 The river/river bank is public, the access is across his land. To be clear 
though, this is the corner of about an 8 acre field on the other side of the 
road from where the house is. The other corner of the field has a cemetery 
(containing many of my ancestors) so he can't close access from the paved road. 
I haven't been down since July but dad says he's put posted signs all over, 
although none on the border with us yet.
The border between his land and ours is somewhat contentious. Its a great big 
field that the previous owners decided they owned half of. The real property 
line was the brook that surrounds the field but they somehow convinced a judge 
that its right smack down the middle of the field. They did this while my uncle 
Reg still owned the place but was dying so he couldn't fight them.That said I 
was looking at the tax maps the other day and they are still drawn with the 
brook as the line. I'm curious where the new owner thinks the line is...

[MBZ] Today's Dealer Fun

So I swing by my dealer to pick up some parts I had ordered today. During idle 
chatter with the counter person, I made a remark about how they're ahead of the 
game because they had the display of “Scent Bombs” that’s always on the counter 
filled up. For whatever reason, my dealer has all sorts of car “scents”, like 
spray bottles, the good old pine tree hanger for the rear view mirror, etc., 
etc. They told me they can’t keep the stuff in stock. I joke about how badly 
the cars they sell must smell if car scents are a major sale item at the parts 
counter.

But wait - it gets better!

So counter person pulls me aside and whispers about how new models have built 
in “air fresheners” that have a little glass jar that holds the smelly stuff. 
The best part? The little glass jars of scent cost $120 They said that 
people blow out worse than when they find out a replacement key fob is $300 
over the $120 scent jars.

Makes me appreciate my “vintage” cars more every day.

slipped and fell down the stairs in my home and landed hard on my back. 
I thought I likely cracked a rib or two but also realized the medical 
folks likely wouldn't do much about it so I did not go and get checked 
out. I was pretty sore for a while but I survived.

Still very sore today. I’m fine sitting or standing. It’s the transition that 
is killer. The wife did give me some sort of narcotic pain pill she is on last 
night and the floating feeling was nice. I wanted to list some cars on Facebook 
and Craigslist. It didn’t do much for the pain though.

Yeah, dad built his 24x40 as a 2 car plus tractor plus woodshop.
10x24 wasn't enough of a workshop when he wanted to buy every tool 
under the sun.
And another 4' of depth would have been nice, and wouldn't have cost 
much.
Ended up putting everything on wheels so he could pack the shop tools 
wall to wall.
Then it was too much hassle rolling everything out to get to the tool 
you wanted to use.



I know the feeling. My basement is no where near as big as either of the 
shops noted above but I have filled it with so many tools that I no 
longer have room to use them. I am trying to improve things with more 
shelving but I fear it is a hopeless cause.

When I've seen S210 4Matics in Florida, they seem to carry no premium 
over RWDs, or even have asking prices lower than RWDs. It doesn't happen 
often, but the last time I saw one and thought "I should buy that", it 
was in Florida.

 We already started on a second garage. The first was 16x24. I'd lobbied for 
larger but dad had the purse strings and I was outvoted.For the new one I again 
lobbied for bigger but we're getting another 16x24. The slab is down but our 
builder is out of commission with new knees and can't get any help to build. At 
least I did argue with dad to get the roof expanded for car ports on both sides 
so I can park the mowing machine and other implements out of the weather.

 AFAIK the house is a tear down. I'm not sure theres enough there to patch. 
Caldon, who has been living there my whole life, lost the whole farm back in 
like 2001 or so. His brother Paul bought it but he didn't live there, he lives 
in central Maine somewhere. I think he's looking to retire but not to the farm. 
Caldon has apparently been living in an apartment in town since spring.
Houses in northern Maine are frequently built "Good enough". They get it 
livable and never do anything else other than the minimum to keep it from 
falling down. I remember when I was 13 and went up for my first hunting trip 
there was a garage they were building that you could see from the road. We 
spotted it on the drive up, they had put up all the studs and finished the 
roof. By the time we drove home they had put a car in it. The following year 
the garage was full of boxes and other culch but they hadn't put the outer 
sheathing or garage door on yet.Its now 31 years later and the garage sits 
exactly the same as it did that second year, its full to the rafters but has no 
walls other than the studs. I can only imagine the volume of racoon poop...

Yeah, the Czech or Latvian or whatever they are Cars245 guys can get lots of 
good stuff. They got me a set of Magnetti-Marelli Euro headlights for my R129 
when you couldn’t find Euro lights  for an R129 anywhere else. Always order 
from their web site rather then auction on eBay they do as things are cheaper 
on their web site.

Lamin-X is the film to put on those Euro lenses and others. Best stuff there is.

That hood looks like it might be fix-able with a little bit of hammer and dolly 
work.
What could it hurt?  I've been practicing on the V10, where I managed to cave
in the back quarter against a tree I didn't see.  It's working surprisingly 
well.

front drive shaft it out or whatever is going on it free rolls while it park.  
Parking brake does not work.  I was carefully removing the last strap and car 
rolls slightly but was able to hold it with the door handle.  Just as I was 
removing the strap it started rolling.  I stupidly jumped into the car as it 
was picking up speed to try and stop it.  I caught my leg between the open door 
and the trailer then slammed my back left side into the B pillar as I jumped 
into the car.  Got it stopped within inches of hitting another car.  When I hit 
the b pillar  it sort of knocked the air out of me and had severe pain and can 
barely move in certain angles.  I wonder if I might have bruised a rib or 
something. Thinking back on it, this could have turned out very badly so I do 
not recommend trying to jump into a car as it is rolling off a trailer.  It 
starts out very slow but gains speed in the blink of an
