I was fixin to sell the 99E320 and of course the PS pump started groaning and
the driver window started ignoring the Go Up command and the seat won’t go
forward now. I think I got a new seat knackers switch for it, or Maybe that was
the $500E300 I smashed. I guess I should go pull the switches and swap them.

The Kumho tars I got for the $500E300 seemed pretty decent. Got good reviews.
I had a rebate coupon and delivered and mounted were maybe $350 for the set

The cheap ones fit 1998-2002

[MBZ] Let the Martha'ing Commence!

2020-10-15 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Started in on the new E320 last night. Got the car vacuumed out and washed.
Polished the headlights. Been cleaning carpets between meetings today. Later on
I’ll start in on the hard surfaces in the interior and get the exterior
clay’ed, polished and waxed. I need to pull a spark plug to see if it needs
plugs, and order a crank position sensor to proactively replace the one that’s
on the car.

Only thing I’ve discovered so far is that the front passenger seat adjustment
seems wonky. Push the bottom cushion button back and the seat goes forward.
Push it forward and it goes nowhere. Hit the memory buttons and it moves all
different directions, meaning the motors are good. I may remove the buttons and
spray some contact cleaner into the switch and see if that helps.

Tomorrow I’ll take it out for a drive to pick up some fluids and then change
fluids in the differentials and hopefully the transfer case. If my first dealer
parts order comes in I’ll grab it and get some OE ATF for the transfer case, as
it has probably never been changed. I’ll drain and refill the power steering as
well.

I need to figure out what sort of paint was used to paint the rockers, as the
paint on them seems to be wearing off as I can see little bits of body color
coming through. It’s not the rock guard stuff, just paint. If anyone knows
what’s used let me know - it’s probably a Würth product of some sort.

Next week, new tires and new OE carpeted floor mats. It will go into daily
driver service at that time to qualify it for travel to Indiana in early
December.

Yes you will need rivets or bodge up some bolts. I have to do the same on the
$700ML500. Amazon have all the bits not particularly expensive.

I found a step-by-step pdf of the process, not hard. I’m not home so can’t
send a link but search for it? Might have been on benzworld. There are some
youtubers too.

Get some new door panel plastic rivets as they will break.

Looks like the rivets are 4.8x8 (3/16x5/16).
Youtube vids don't look any worse than W140.

I can get a no-name from the bay of fleas for $27, but the $20 fleabay

Transmission replacement or rebuild - $2500 (?)

New Tires - $300 - 700

All that + $500 sales price = $4500, more or less.

Hey, it's only Evansville, and you can take that fancy interstate they’ve been
wanting to build for decades. I can’t forget all the trips I made from Indy to
Evansville for business purposes that were a full day just to make the round
trip. Ugh.

Also, while you’re there you can go across the river to Kentucky and get cheap
smokes!

*"Transmission has been shifting strangely lately, probably needs an oil
change. Just bought a new battery two weeks ago and now it won't start, so
something is draining it. Needs tires and rear brakes."*

Transmission replacement or rebuild - $2500 (?)
Electrical troubleshooting - $500 ?
New Tires - $300 - 700
New brakes - $200 - $800?

All that + $500 sales price = $4500, more or less.

Ask is a bit outlandish as it’s an S320. If it was an S500 maybe. On a good
day, considering the miles and condition, it’s a $4k-$5k car.

[MBZ] W163 ML350 rear window regulator.

2020-10-15 Thread Mitch Haley via Mercedes

So, I'm driving home from town, and hear the window behind me whistle.
I tap the up button, nothing happens.
Tap down then up, and now the wind is a roar, because the window is open
5-6"
Get home, and I can lift the window a couple inches, let go and it drops
back down.

Oh, boy, looks like a plastic pulley shattered when I wasn't even using
the window, and then hitting the button made the cable fall off.

Anybody been there, done that with this chassis?
Any brands to buy or avoid for the regulator?
