What about brakes?  Did 116 have vacuum boost?  If so, brakes would be
critical, IMO, and the vacuum booster is a possible leak source.

Based on the ice in the cabin, I am thinking the seals are shot, at least on 
the sunroof.  The better reason for it sitting, is that there are NO benz 
mechanics to work on it.  Stealership here began selling ML type rides and goes 
through service personnel like bark in a moose.

Hoping it's not the vac pump again. Rebuilt it some years ago with a kit I got 
from either Rusty or Jabba. Said it was getting scarce then, not sure if they 
are still available now. It's a different type of pump than the W123s use even 
though it an OM617 engine.

the cabin so you can suck on it to shut it off. Much easier that doing the hood

I don't know the W116 but diagnosing 123/126 model vacuum is not hard.  Miti
Vac, golf tees, vacuum diagram, and a short piece of rubber hose is all
that's needed.  Access to all key junctions was under the passenger floor
mat.  But even before that, visually inspect the lines in the engine
compartment.  I had a possum that took shelter there (W126) but disconnected
several vacuum connections.

If you could find them, most of the junk cars have blown air suspension too, 
that’s why they’re in the yard. Arnott aftermarket would be the way to go, as 
dan says those are probably $500 or so each. Throw in the other suspension bits 
and the cost is not reasonable other than a hobby effort for something not 
particularly unique or interesting.

These cars were a real nightmare from the get-go, even worse if you can’t 
wrench in your own.

The AirMatic struts will cost you +$500/each in the aftermarket and without 
them the car is a lawn/driveway ornament.

car.  Massaging seats?  A shame as the car looks pretty nice and only
