The first time I was high bidder at $2200.  Next time it was $2500.
Last time was $1100, this time $1700.  His buy it now was $4000, now
$3800.  Seller has never even counter bid my winning bids.  I have
wondered what it looks like on the seller side. Surely they are paying
every time it runs, or paying storage fees.  I have no idea who owns it

The batteries are probably better, plus the owner may have figured out
not to run it below 20% every day.

I'm amazed that he (or more likely, three shifts of drivers) managed to
average 150kmi since 2019.
That's a decent annual mileage for a single driver long haul semi in the

Took the $900E500 (now up to $1600 or so) out tonight for first real drive.
Took it easy as the front tires are crap but everything went well, no problems,
suspension working, transmission working. Smells like rodent pee so need to
finish cleaning the carpets and change the cabin filter too. It is a very fast
car and handles really nicely. The 05E320 wagon feels quite slow by comparison.

So I’m calling this project a success.

A Tesla owner in Germany may just have the record for highest-mileage Model
S in the world. He recently rolled over 1.5 million kilometers (932,256
freedom miles if you live in the U.S.) in his Model S P85.

Getting to this number was no cheap feat for the owner. It’s been through
quite a number of parts

in
its lifetime. The owner, Hansjörg von Gemmingen-Hornberg says the car is on
at least its third battery. The first was replaced under warranty at about
180,000 miles. The second was replaced after about 93,000 additional miles
before the third battery was installed. So far, the Model S has done more

That isn’t all. The car also needed four drive motors to reach over 900,000
miles. The P85 has only one drive motor on the real axle. That means three
different drive motors have failed.

But how has this Tesla racked up so many miles? Well, the owner uses it as
a taxi. He also chronicles his journeys on his very-German Twitter account

According to InsideEVs, he reached the 900,000-kilometer (559, mile)
mark in July 2019. That means he has averaged about 150,000 miles annually
since then. That works out to over 400 miles a day packing onto this
Tesla’s odometer.

There are a few high-milage Model S’s trolling around the world right now,
like this 425,000 mile example
.
But it’s safe to say the German car blows this one out of the water.

The owner has stayed mum on exactly how much the repairs have cost over the
life of his Model S – perhaps because it would make no logical sense to
pour this money into a car to keep it going, or perhaps because it isn’t
our business.

So, while we may not know how much he’s paying for the privilege of driving
a Model S nearly a million miles in less than ten years, we will certainly

I ordered a bunch of parts from Naperville a couple of weeks ago. Finally got
notice it shipped. FedEx shows it delivered by today. Yesterday I check
tracking and it shows in Lenexa KS. Makes sense. Just now sitting here in my
office I see the FedEx truck coming down the road. I figured I could now head
out to that shop and finish up the car that is on the lift. FedEx truck rolls
on by but doesn’t stop. I check tracking. Still says expected delivery today
but now it’s in Sioux City Iowa. Wtf?

[MBZ] OT: Disastrous blind date

2022-01-14 Thread Andrew Strasfogel via Mercedes
*We've all heard a lot of disastrous blind-date stories,* but this one has
got to take the cake.

A woman in Zhengzhou, China, went on a blind date arranged by her family,
agreeing to meet the man at his apartment because he wanted to show off his
cooking skills by making dinner for them.

When she was leaving the compound where his apartment is located, a
security guard told her she couldn't leave because the government had
imposed a sudden lockdown on all of Henan province because of the rapid
spread of the omicron variant. She had no choice but to return to her blind
date's apartment.

Now, before you start to feel sorry for her, she said on social media that
the man has continued to cook for her, and admitted that she doesn't do
anything to help out by cooking or cleaning up. Instead, she sleeps late
and has been complaining that he's a very quiet guy who doesn't talk to her
much.

This happened last week, and it's unclear if she's still lazing around the
guy's apartment. No word on whether she's giving him money for groceries.

Re: [MBZ] What do y’all think about this?

2022-01-14 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
A little high but it could be something other than the bags.  A scanner
would show the issues.  Could be air lines or the block/regulator in the
rear.  Take a scanner along and see what codes it is throwing.  If
indeed the bags they are not that expensive and not hard to replace so
you wouldn't be underwater on it.  I wouldn't go more than $3k if you
really wanted one.  Plus it is boring white/gray but no interior pics.

Re: [MBZ] OT: 180 mph Seaglider

2022-01-14 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
Nantucket Steamship Authority and HyLine canceled ferry service today
due to high winds (65-70mph max gusts).  I think the HyLine runs a
catamaran now for their fast boat.

I wonder how a WIG of the size of this seaglider thing would work in
high winds and seas.  I doubt if it would handle much.  That Russian
plane was huge so it probably would do OK up to some sea state

It would be great to see these WIG things take off (haha) but it would take
a lot of development and safety protocols for them to establish a good
track record and garner public acceptance.
