The increasing cost of food may bring the used car market to heel. That and the
child tax credit that has been dispensed on a monthly basis, as opposed to
getting a large tax return in March or April. One can hope. I'd like to pick up
a Benz bargain or two from somewhere other than the rust belt.

Subject: [MBZ] My ML350 Bluetec Oil Cooler Seal Repair update

Yes I am still trying to finish the oil cooler seal replacement on my new to me
2012 ML350 diesel. I have the turbo back in and have to finish up connecting
the exhaust down pipe to the back of the turbo. I may have to take the car to
the dealer or a European indy to compete the second step after torqueing the
(3) screws to ( 20 NM). Step two is tightening the screws and additional ( 90
degs ). These screws face the engine bulkhead and is under engine shielding.
The top (2) are sort accessible but third is on the bottom with very little
access. Matter of fact I dropped the third screw and still need to find it.
Below is the link to where been posting most of my photos of this project.

Things to Complete list
1) Install O2 probe at elbow of exhaust pipe
2) Install new CCV valve assembly
3) Install fuel rail to fuel rail connection line
4) Double check that all fuel injector supply nuts have been torqued
5) Install new fuel filter ( I will prefill filter with fuel )
6) Install charge air from turbo to front of engine and turbo intercooler
7) Reinstall injector return fuel line
8) Install air intake assembly that connects to the turbo. ( I purchased new
seal for this joint )
9) Install all remaining electrical connectors
10) Install rear shield located behind turbo
11) Install new inlet air filters, left & right
12) Install the rest of the engine shielding
13) double check that all electrical and mechanical items
14) Install coolant that was drained from engine
15) test start engine ( May take several tries as fuel lines need to be
recharged )

[MBZ] Valvoline Premium Blue 5w40

2022-03-04 Thread Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes
Napa has this on monthly special last month for $21.99 a gallon. While in KC
last week a store in town on my way home showed to have it available for pickup
the next day and let me order 12. Days later order canceled. This month it’s on
sale for $23.99. Ordered 6 for pickup in a town on the way to where I’m at now.
Next day order cancelled. I checked this town for the last coupon of days and
showed no stock. This afternoon I checked again and Napa here said it had it
available for pickup in 30 minutes. Ordered 6. Figuring it would be canceled I
be dammed if it didn’t say it was ready for pickup. Went by and got it. I then
put in an order for 6 more which showed to be in stock in Tulsa on my way back
home. They called said they had 3 and could not get more. So I have 3 more to
pickup tomorrow. Was able to order 2 more from different store in Tulsa. So for
the moment I have 3 jugs of Rotella, and will have 11 jugs of the valvoline
after tomorrow. I guess I could be like those people buying up all the sh*t
paper causing a shortage. In my case I really need it for my vehicles.

Point of this story is, if you are looking for any, it started randomly showing
in stock at stores so order it quick for store pickup. I am probably going to
try to snag some more. They also have Delvac 1 ESP 5w40 for $21.99 but the spec
sheets make the valvoline look a lot better, at least on paper.

Re: [MBZ] W124 Coupe

2022-03-04 Thread Andrew Strasfogel via Mercedes
123 coupe rear window regulator keeps on popping off the connecting
linkage. Must remove rear seats and side panel to address which is a total
PIA. My indy threaded the shaft to secure the two moving parts with a lock
nut. Issue solved forever.

W123s, maybe, but I’m not aware of an issue with W124 coupes.

If anything, the seatbelt presenters can fail and I don’t believe parts are
available for them.

I'm not sure I would turn a nice car like that over to the boy with his

2022-03-04 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
There was a time when people thought it was crazy to pull oil up out of the
ground and try to refine it, after all you could get all the oil you might ever
need by boiling it out of whales...

As an aside we went to a gun show last weekend and one of the vendors had small
cans of whale oil. I didn't see how old they were but I'd guess 50-60 years or
more.

I'm not sure I would turn a nice car like that over to the boy with his

While the second law of thermodynamics is inviolate, the point of this
was not to make _energy_. It is to make _fuel_ out of waste products, and
requires a significant input of solar energy. In this case it's a solar energy
endeavor, but with convenient supplies of heat and food for the bugs,
presumably multiplying the efficiency somewhat.

Think "breeder reactor", rather than "perpetual motion machine."

Even so, I don't know how it pencils out.

[MBZ] My ML350 Bluetec Oil Cooler Seal Repair update

2022-03-04 Thread Robert Massmann via Mercedes

15) test start engine ( May take several tries as fuel lines need to be
recharged )

I agree that crops as fuel doesn't make any sense but the future of
ethanol/biodiesel is algae based. They grow the algae in tanks fed on the
