Re: [MBZ] Auto Parts Idiots
Autozone is the repository for people who are wasting good air we could be breathing around here. There is one about five minutes from my house, as close as the local Harbor Freight. I won’t set foot in it. The one Advance I go to (and the ONLY) one I have gone to) used to have some pretty savvy folks behind the counter. Out of the three I knew that had their acts together, I think only one of them is still there. To give you an idea of frequency, I looked over my receipts from 2021 and I went there three times, total. Two of those were to get batteries. So that gives you an idea of how often I patronize them. The main reason for going to this location is that it’s a former CVS that they took over, and in doing so, they made it a “mini-warehouse” where they stock a lot more stuff so the nearby stores can draw from them rather that having to get stuff from the warehouse in Lakeland, a good 45 minutes away. I think that’s likely why there were some relatively intelligent people there, as I suspect some of the local shops that used them went there, too. There’s a NAPA over in Brandon about 20 minutes away, and the NAPA warehouse is about ten minutes from there, so if I was really, really desperate for something I’m sure I could use them. For the most part I stick to online purchasing or getting it from my local dealer. -D > On Mar 12, 2022, at 4:46 PM, Curt Raymond wrote: > > Chain autoparts stores are the final haven for people to stupid to work at > the grocery store. > > I consider Advance to have the absolute dumbest clerks. I have routinely went to those joints for Toyota parts for SILs 4runner and some stuff for my pickup unless it’s Cummins related…then it’s Gino’s Garage. Anything MB was 99% obtained online. Jabba, Rusty, among others. I have been getting brave and utilizing the Large Wimmen for many automotive things lately, having healed from of spate of incorrect parts from them. I was sad when my NAPA closed down because I had come to adore those tweakers. AZBob Sent from my iPad > On Mar 12, 2022, at 3:35 PM, Allan Streib via Mercedes > wrote: > > Advance is the same here. Re: [MBZ] Auto Parts Idiots
The NAPA by our place in Maine has a bunch of mangy looking dudes and one young (like mid-20s) woman. She is CLEARLY the brains of the operation and somehow manages to keep an eye on all the mangy dudes while still helping twice as many customers as the dudes do. Several times I've seen her pause a transaction "Pardon me for a second" and go to one of the dudes, pull a part out of his hand, go get a different part, put it back in the guy's hand "That's the one you want" and go pick up her transaction where she left off. Chain autoparts stores are the final haven for people to stupid to work at the grocery store. I consider Advance to have the absolute dumbest clerks. Autozone is a minor step up but the one nearest me has pretty well hit bottom. I'll never forgive Advance for buying Car Quest.
