Re: [MBZ] These are supposedly hard to fly
My mom used to date a guy back in the late 80's when she lived in Houston that had one. They used to fly up to Tulsa and pick me up and fly me down there and back. Her next man who she is still married to used to fly Lear jets and/or Gulfstreams up to pick me up to go down there. I missed the original post. Are you losing coolant? Car overheats? Re: [MBZ] E320 hovercraft wagon coolant loss
I've had leaks that only leaked when the system was hot, and the escaping liquid quickly evaporated so it was hard to find them. Any scent of glycol in the exhaust? White smoke or steam? I presume a wagon has a rear heater core, did you check for leaks along the length of the car and not just under/around the front? Re: [MBZ] CBC News : '3 Old Guys' — aged 65 and up — complete epic 8,000-km snowmobile ride from Minnesota to Alaska
That is cool. That would be fun. as a voracious reader in elementary school, I would read anything that had to do with Alaska or the tundra or trappers, or Bush pilots because that fascinated me. my desire to become a bush pilot was why I started taking flying lessons at the age of 15. My buddy Ted and I wondered, at the age of 13 I think we were, if it would be possible to ride snowmobiles from Fargo (where his grandparents lived) to Point Barrow. By the time we were approaching driving age, we had decided we would save our money and buy a C10 Blazer and drive the Alaska highway. Oh the dreams of youngsters. Re: [MBZ] ML550 Starter
Starter has been replaced. Huzzah! I took my time and spent some time fiddling with moving harnesses around to gain (better) access to mounting bolts while doing this in the middle of my driveway. I would say it’s an hour’s work on a lift. On my back in the driveway added maybe 30 minutes, as well as having to walk over to the garage every time I needed something. No need to drop/move exhaust. I didn’t mess with the engine mount, either. With the starter mounting bolts out, you can move the starter around to the point where it is pointing straight down and out the opening. I brought it out terminals first so I could remove the wires, then put it back up and flipped it over. I would liken it to removing or replacing an ETA (throttle body) on an M119 engine. There seems to be a lot of room, but there’s only one way you can turn the ETA for it to clear everything. Not original - a Bosch remanufactured starter. Hmm. I haven’t looked it over to see if there’s a date code or something to try and figure out how old it is. Attempts to turn it by hand were not successful. It’s definitely borked internally. Orienting the lead to the solenoid is not fun - it sits precariously close to the engine mount heat shield. Lots of cables and stuff in the area aft of the starter which can prove challenging for getting at the star head starter bolts, but like doing a starter in a W123 as I recall, a bunch of extensions and swivel joints are helpful. Getting the bolts started back up wasn’t difficult, although the bottom bolt seemed sort of tight. I took it out and looked at the threads, which were OK, and just figured the tolerances must have been off the day they cut those threads. It cranked down just fine all the way. Car started right up and was able to drive it into the garage. Time to cool off then have a shower. -D ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Re: [MBZ] 08 CLS 63 AMG
That would be a very good price on a 63. Yeah head bolts were bad for some years, that might fall into the range so that would be a concern. Check it out, the fix is doable but a pain. Use that for negotiation. Do these have airmatic?
