Microcenter and Fry's have some cheap mobo/processor combos, then get
some memory, and you can use your older stuff with a new faster board.
You might need a new video card too, the new boards are all PCI-E, and
that might demand a more powerful power supply. But you can kind of
sneak up on stuff if you want to fool around with it.

On second thought, since your current box is so old, I'd recommend just
getting a new PC. As you note, there are lots of low cost boxes

They may not be the latest technology (so what!) but they are a quantum

You need a SATA controller to use SATA drives. All the current
machines that have SATA also have an ATA or IDE connector on the
motherboard for use with cd drives. That will allow you to connect
your old disk to copy stuff over. Any current machine you buy will be
64 bit. You might as well load an x64 version of windows since
Microsoft has yet to come out with any upgrade path from x86 to x64.
Soon, you will only be able to get x64 versions of Windows. Neither
Intel or AMD are making any more x86 CPU's - except for specialty
 dedicated controllers.

As a side note, Small Business Server 2008 will be released only as an
x64 version (Exchange 2007 is x64 only). Anyone running SBS now will
need to do a complete reinstall to move to SBS2008. There is no
upgrade. They bumped the Premium version of SBS2008 to run on 2
servers and are coming out with a new product called EBS2008
(Essential Business Server) that will run on 3 (standard) or 4
 (premium) servers.

The only drawback I see on that eMachine is a limit of 2-gig of ram.
These days, that's not much and may not be enough to run the next
version of Windows. Personally, I'd go with an Asus M2A-VM and an
athlon x2 6400 dual-core cpu. They are dirt cheap now. That will play
HD and Blu-ray on you nice TV. The motherboard comes with an OEM
version of CyberLink. You need that to play high def and costs more
than the motherboard is selling for now.

There are 64bit versions of XP. I think vista requires 64bit. Any modern
CPU is going to be 64bit. The major advantages is the ability to use
more than 2GB of memory at a time.

 Gee...

For some reason this reminded me of a story.. as an electrical contractor.

Couple bought a house. After moving in the wife discovered the freezer in
the basement had quit working and the contents had spoiled. (Not a large
loss.) She tells the husband who discovers that none of the electrical
receptacles in that area of the basement were working. The rather
 dominant
wife (SWMBO) incites the husband. Rather than simply look into the
homeowner's warranty, they go straight for the big guns and have their
attorney send registered letters to the real estate agents. Communication
 is
pretty much broken down with no attempt to simply solve the problem first.

The previous owners have moved out of town but the new homeowners try to
engage the original builder with accusations of faulty wiring etc. Never
mind that the house now two years old passed all inspections. As a favor
 to
the general contractor I agreed to make a polite service call just to see
 if
there was a simple solution. The homeowners wouldn't allow me to enter on
the first trip but insisted that both real estate agents had to be
 present.
The new homeowners are satisfied with nothing less than we'll sue!!!

What did I discover? It was obvious that code would require a GFIC device
 on
the receptacles with the unfinished concrete floor. I located it hidden
behind stacks of moving boxes. The husband had plugged an extension cord
into an outdoor receptacle which was protected by the same device. When he
had plugged his block heater in on his diesel the frayed cord on the car
 had
 caused the device to trip.

I was amused! All that was necessary was to press the reset button on the
device. Imagine everyone's response, the appetite for crow ..his
 pennance
of having to live with that barracuda.

What added to the amusement was that the husband didn't realise that the
hard cold morning starts were related to his block heater not getting
electricity and was blaming the mechanic, trying to hold him liable for
 the
 problem with the car.

come of of the woodwork and tell the news how they knew hans would snap

due to the bimby business, i have had some contact with mechanics of the
sort who do not actually practice their trade as a professional business.
as they have no tax id number, most wholesale houses will not sell to
 them.
or perhaps they buy in such small volume that they can still buy cheaper
from us than from the wholesaler.

i've had the following conversation on more than one occassion.

yeah, i need a fuel distributor for that car i've been working on
 why do you think that?
well, i replaced a, b and c and that didn't fix it, so it has to be the
 fuel distributor
no it doesn't, but i'll send you one anyway

ok, so then he installs the fuel distributor and it doesn't help. but he
has 500 in that part and his customer has 800 in it. so he actually does
 the
work and really figures out what the problem is. costs $3 to fix. car
 runs
great. customer has spend $1500 for a part requiring a $3 part and 2
 hours
of real diagnostics and thinks his mechanic is a genius.

i cant tell you a one of stories like this.

auto repair is a pretty crooked enterprise. know who you are dealing

Not a priority I can afford immediately, but I've been thinking of using
 the
process of elimination to get the cruise control working on one of the
cars. It's not the type of thing that I'd pay premium to the indy to work
through and I'm not adept nor ambitious enough to arm myself with the

It has manifolds. The exhaust manifold is in the center, where the intake
would be and the intake manifolds are incorporated in the cam covers.

They did this to cut cost. The design lets them run one center mounted
 turbo
instead of two, one on each side.

Subject: [MBZ] 240D engine is REALLY *LOUD*..

My son sent me an instant message yesterday saying the 240D was trailing
some blue smoke and smelled like it was burning oil.

When I got home last night I started it up and popped the hood. Engine is
running a lot louder than it had been. It was night, so it's hard to be
definitive but it did seem to be spewing a little more smoke than normal
and it did smell of burning oil. The oil level (I checked it before I
started after the car sat on the flat for 7 hours) was down a bit from
where it was when I brought the level back up a few days back. We checked
under the air filter and there wasn't much oil sitting there, so I don't
think that's the culprit. I did notice pretty significant blow-by when I
pulled the oil fill cap while the engine was running at fast idle.

So I have more smoke, some oil smell in the exhaust, lower oil level on
the dipstick, more noise - almost like a loud rap, and lots of cam oil
pressure. Any thoughts? Could it be as simple as a valve nut that wasn't
tightened up enough and now has moved? The sound I'm hearing seems to be
coming from a single piston - that is, it's regular but I don't think it
happens every time a piston fires.

...Kevin (who'll be checking valve clearances tonight)

I agree with Don.

Child Services (DHR in Alabama) is the most over worked government
organization in any state. The problem is that the workers have to
obtain unrefutable evidence then they have to present the evidence to a
Judge the judge has to issue a court order to have the child or
children removed. All of this is necessary because of our lawsuit happy
society. The Chld Services workers have to protect themselves from being
sued by the parents of the children they are trying to protect.

Based on Kaleb's his Wive's comments on the kid's overall condition,
Kaleb's new family are a likely good example of the system failing.
It's possible that the family had been investigated but Child Services
could not put together enough evidence to convince a judge to issue a
court order. But it's just as likely that they were never investigated
because of the work load most Child Services must carry.

My Niece was removed from her Mother 4 years too late - She was 13 years
old. Kaleb's new family are younger and they have a chance to make a
 difference.

Your best bet might be a W124. The size feels like a W123 but the

I know, I know. I've seen the video, know the MB crash data. But this

Hubcaps match the paint, no bundt wheels. Hefty and sturdy feeling.
I'd get a 124 in a new york minute, but this isn't my car. Showed her

Anything designed after the 126 gets that reaction. So, I'm enjoying
 the challenge of the search.

 Guy at work has a 116 300SD and claims it'll do 30mpg.
However I know the odo doesn't work in it. He says well I can drive 500
 miles between fillups.
By which he means City x and city y are about 500 miles apart.
Playing a little bit loose wiht the amount you fill up or the distance
traveled very quickly creates very good mpg...

I got 28MPG in my SD before. Once. I had the cruise set on 60MPH the
entire time. It was the tank after I left your place... I had that huge
oil leak where if I went above 60MPH oil poured out... Normally I get
23 on the highway (~80MPH) and about 19 in town.

Yes, Tim Friesen is my 40 year old nephew.? When I sent the errant message

How his message reached the Okibenz list is certainly curious.? Tim?is a

Marshall said that Mercedes did not disclose everything they did while
remanufacturing the engine. It was thus impossible for any aftermarket
shop to do the same job.
He also pointed out that Mercedes later reversed themselves and
started sleeving the engines during remanufacture.

It does if they can't bore or resleeve the cylinders. I don't remember
the details, but Marshall was of the opinion that only the factory
was able to recondition the 350 blocks so that they lasted like a
new engine. (or did the factory simply use a new block with the old

I had Stip-Eze'd and resoldered the ACC PBU PCB some years back and it was
working fine until I drove to Pbgh. for Christmas. The heat seemed to
function correctly at something less than the maximum heat setting for
 1/2-1
hour and then the heat gradually disappeared. I had to swith the thumb
wheel past the click stop to max heat in order to get heat again. The
problem is that all I could get was max heat, as the heat would disappear
 at
any setting lower than max heat so I had to keep switching the heat on/off
for the entire trip. I pulled the ACC PB unit while in Pbgh. and cleaned
all the pin contacts, including those from the thumb wheel to the PCB, and
thought I had solved the problem with a short (~5mi.) ride to determine if
the heat functioned correctly at anything lower than the max heat setting.
Upon leaving for my return trip to NC on Jan. 1, I found the ACC system
doing the same thing as the heat would disappear at any thumb wheel
 setting
lower than max heat so I was forced to turn the heat off/on for the entire
return trip as well. Anybody got any ideas? TIA.

It's been a while since I tried it, but IIRC, when the XP Install
 window
opens, you get a choice of Installing, Repairing or Uninstalling. It's
 been
a while. You're probaby just not seeing it.

boot because its missing a file. OK, no big deal I think. I will make

Computer boots up but will not let me switch to the partition I need to
 get to the windows directory.

My kids computer did the same thing. I ended up doing a repair install
with the XP cd. Worked like a champ. However, there was a problem with
windows update after that. I had to re-register some dlls.

IIRC Barry says its not/wasn't him and Kaleb says that account isn't on

Which makes me thing somebody's email has a virus or something.

People who want to eat healthy food have nothing to do with McDonald's
at all. Changing what they fry the food in or how they make milkshakes
is just a marketing gimmick to attract fat slobs that think having a
diet coke with their fat-burger will make a difference. Use common
sense - saving a half gram of fat on your fries when the burger has
over 150% of the USDA recommended calories from fat for the whole
frigging day still leaves you obese.

If you are on a healthy diet - McDonald's has NOTHING to offer you,
 regardless of the serving size.

A few weeks back we were discussing HDTVs. I had bought a Vizio 32 720P
for the bedroom, a good deal at Sams. Well right before Christmas the
thing started locking up when attempting to access certain channels,
couldn't turn it off, no buttons worked, gray screen of death. Did a
little intertubes research and discovered this appears to be a common
problem with this brand, something about bad firmware in the
controller. Took it back (no questions asked, didn't even look in the
box) and got a Samsung, which was a bit more, but this appears to be a
nicer unit, better picture, similar features. I got a DVD player for it
too, awesome picture. I think on the smaller screens, 720P is quite
adequate as your eyes probably can't resolve any more pixels anyway,
from a bedroom distance. On a bigger screen the 1080P would probably
 be the better choice.

 YMMV.

I emailed corporate about our Claremore walmart. On xmas eve, they closed
at 6, we were there at 5 and they had nearly all the lights out. At about
5:30 they started turning the rest of the lights off and telling people they
had to get out. If they were not in line at a certain time they could not
buy their stuff. When I was in the retail business, at whatever time we
closed people could continue coming in up till then and continue shopping
past close. That is the proper way to do it. The local manager called me
back trying to kiss ass. Fixing to email them again about the walmart down
the road from the office. Was just there the other day, and again today.
They have 2 lanes open in the whole store, lines a mile long, all the self

Well, you have a point there, for some viewers and viewing experiences a
plain old TV is just fine. But NTSC is going away next year with the
conversion to digital, technology marches forward. I do like the new
TVs though, the picture is quite nice and much better than the old
tubes. We were watching the Twilight Zone marathon on SciFi the other
day, one of them that was filmed on video came on, and my wife said,
Hey look, that one is in HD! Uh, no, but, the contrast between the
film and video versions of the shows (still B/W) was quite stark (the
video was not very good but it was sharp). Too funny. I suppose back
in 1962 or whenever it was, people were all jazzed up about video.

Yesterday I took apart and scavenged bits from an old little Toshiba
tube TV we used in the kitchen, it finally started acting funky after
maybe 12 yr. I was amazed at how little was actually in the electronics
in there. Most of it was a big heavy glass tube. Anyway I got some
good parts, and a nice bit of copper windings from the tube. H,
maybe a Tesla coil coming up?

I think plain old NSTC is just fine. HDTV seems to be being forced
upon us though, if I believed in conspiracies I'd say that the
consumer electronics companies are sitting pretty on this one. Hey,
now that we have TVs in 99% of households, let's change the signal
standard so that everone will be forced to buy a new television. Oh
and let's change the DVD standard too so everyone will have to buy new
 players and new discs.

Had a fight with a damn DVD last night, would not get past the main
menu probably because of a hairline scratch or fingerprint on the
 disk. I miss VHS.

I'd opt out entirely except I'd have a revolt on my hands with the
 rest of the family.

If you get your TV off the air you will need a converter box to change
the digital signal to something an older NTSC TV tuner will understand.
Just yesterday the gummint is giving away $40 coupons to use to buy one
of these boxes, which are going to be probably $60-$80, until everyone
starts buying them then they will be $30 or $40 (as all electronics
go). You have to use the coupon within 90 days though, and there is a
finite amount of money set aside for the coupons (did I read $400M?)
which came from the sale of the airwave licenses. There is some web
site where you can order them.

If you have Dish or a cable box (or even plain cable no box) the signal
will get to your TV OK and you won't need the converter (the box does
that), only for grabbing over-the-air digital signals. The newer TVs
(most of them, check to see) have ATSC tuners, which are digital. If
you have Dish, and use the (old) TV tuner to get your locals, then you
will need one of the converter thingies.

Did I get that part wrong? I thought NTSC was being replaced by ATSC
(which is the digital transmission?). I might be FOS or ignorant or
both on that part, but you will still need a box to convert the signals.

For Kleb getting the locals through his Dish box, I don;t know, you will
have to ask Dish about that. Don't know if their boxes have the digital
tuner built in (can you get the local HDs through that box? If so, then
it works.) Note too that there is digital picture and an HD digital
picture. A lot of the stations now have a digital HD channel, and some
other extra plain digital channels showing various other things
 (radar and weather, e.g.).

If the D: partition is NTFS, DOS does not understand that. You need to
boot into something that understands NTFS, perhaps Knoppix? Or boot
off an XP install CD and see if there's some way to repair or get
 into a command prompt.

BartPE helps you generate a boot CD that will give you access to the hard

you are right. mcdonald's is to blame for trying to serve a quality
product. i'm sure this will never happen again.

is starbucks also prohibited from serving coffee at the right temperature
 or
are you willing to give them a pass here? how long do you think starbucks
would stay in business serving 150 degree coffee?

I'm finding the damage done by the female kids while they were driving
my cars during the holidays. I think they'll be walking next year.
The left front turn signal light was slid forward over an inch, and
the amber lens is cracked in several places. THe exhaust system was
half down on the SDL, and a drink was spilled in the center console of
the 300D and left without an effort to even mop it up. I'm pissed. But
 enough of my problems --

How is the turn signal/corner light assembly held in? I jsut slid it
back into place, hoping that it will stay there. Our son is taking the
car to Houston for a semester tomorrow morning. Perhaps it'll get duct
taped in place, so it'll look like a normal Okie car.

Computer boots up but will not let me switch to the partition I need to

My thoughts exactly. Marshall always said that 30 mpg was at the high end
of what you could get with a 603 car, and required steady 60-mph highway
driving. Peter's the only person I have ever heard report getting over 30
 mpg consistently.

I have to think that there's something really exceptional about Peter's
 car,
or his driving habits. Maybe he's just way out in the tail end of the
 bell
 curve?

FWIW, in the two '87 300Ds I've owned, I've always seen 25-27 mpg pretty
consistently with about a 50-50 mix of city and highway driving. I know
 the
one I have now got very slightly better mileage (1-2 mpg maybe) before I
adjusted the ALDA, at the expense of terrible turbo lag---it was running
 way
too lean (is that even the right word where diesels are concerned?).

I will freely admit to being a sedate driver -- I refuse to be in much of a
hurry for anything anymore, it's too much hassle.

However, here is what I usually do to keep fuel consumption down:

light throttle until the 1-2 upshift, then add power.

Keep the rear tires as 36 psi, rides a bit harder, but you get better
 milage.

Rebuild the rear calipers if the brake pads don't wear -- they stick badly
as they really only get used when at full load. I pull mine once in a
while and make sure the pads move freely, else the rust in place and drag.
 They then stick and drag.

Keep the front end properly aligned! Check the front wheel bearings, too,
a bad one will drag quite a bit.

Accelerate gently, let some other idiot burn up fuel if he wants. A 603
will wind out a bit, just give it a bit of time.

I still only get 14 mpg in my 280 SE 4.5, no matter what I do

Ft. Wayne actually looks better than it did -- a new Libraby, quite nice
the in the new style (too much wasted space for me, but it's the new way),
a nice Convention Center downtown, old Train Station fixed up and in use,
lots of traffic downtown. Still no major new industry, but I think that's
going to change, the fad for outsourcing everything but the CEO's salary
 is just about over.

Re: [MBZ] OM617 cold start procedure

2008-01-02 Thread Kaleb C. Striplin, work
Yea, it seems like when I put the pedal to the floor, it starts not firing,
but if I back off, it starts kicking off. I can do this and it start
kicking off and if I floor it while its doing that, it goes back to not
firing at all.

This morning, the 300D was cold-soaked to to about 5 degrees (F). M1
15W-50 oil. Glowed twice, and tried to start following the procedure:
throttle to the floor, and don't stop cranking until the battery dies.

After about 20 - 30 seconds the starter seemed to be turning slightly
faster but still no hint of firing. I released the throttle to just
slightly more than idle and it immediately began to fire sporadically.
A few more seconds and it was firing steadily.

I've never had luck with the throttle to the floor part of the cold
start process, anyone else have similar experience?

The starter should have enough torque. The compressed air will act as
springs against pistons on the way back down.

Grossly bent valves will be easy to see. Slightly bent valves will not
 and bent is bent.

Pull all the glow plugs, then check compression? How's it going to get
air into the cylinders to compress without open intake valves?

I don't know the answer, but my guess is that the actuators were
changed to match changes in the controlling circuitry, or that the
supplier just had a better idea for producing them at a lower cost and
substituted the new part in. However, I think those cases are just
listed as superceded parts in the EPC, not unique parts per engine
 number.

I have a similar question about the vacuum pump on my '90 602 - the
EPC (and Rusty's catalog) call for a different VP for this year,
certain engine number range, and it's ~ $150 more than the pumps
before and after it. Could I use the less expensive pump???

On Dec 30, 2007 8:27 PM, Kaleb C. Striplin [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
Im sure nobody here knows, but thought i would ask anyway. On the E420,
the epc says there are 2 different idle control/cruise actuators (sits
over the throttle). One up to a certain engine, then one past a certain
engine (without ASR, there are others with ASR). What is the difference
between the 2? Could one from the earlier series of engines be used on
the later series? I cant see what difference there would be.

I taught in a local (rural/suburban) high school last
semester, and to say that things are adversarial when
it comes to students and parents is putting it mildly.

I had a kid who was from a very well known and
prominent cattle ranching family. It's clear that the
student in question was not going to college and most
likely would live out their life on the ranch, taken
care of by mom and dad until they cacked and left he
 and his siblings the ranch.

They would come in to class on a daily basis and
either be disruptive or just put their head on his
desk (I'm not going to work today.) While that was
probably the best thing, since having them sleep kept
them from being disruptive, it set a precedent that
would cause me problems with other students.

I would take them out of class, call mom, and explain
the situation. Mom would talk to them, they would be
compliant, and the next day the cycle would repeat
 itself.

Back in the day, if our teacher called home like this
we would probably expect a major @ss-kicking. In this
day in age it's clear that for most kids there are no
expectations of civility or respect, nor are there
consequences for such behaviors. I think that's the
one thing that p#sses me off the most as a teacher.
If I expect my students to comply with the rules and
they don't, there is little or nothing I can do about
it, and if I do, I risk getting a nasty phone call
from home. So I tolerate it, unless I get an
administrator that I know will back me up.

Hell I would have made a deal like that with you :) It had to have been
very loud but you know how some women are, they dont pay attention. I cant
believe the compressor pulley locked up. If the compressor itself locked up
the klima relay would have kicked it out, unless somebody had it wired up to
run all the time because something in the system was bad, then the clutch
would have stayed kicked in and melted the belt. Otherwise the pulley
itself would have locked up but I dont think I have ever seen that happen.

Well everyone of you hit it right on the head.

I found a flashlight (Not a small deed in and of itself in this house) :)
 Went out and looked.

It appears as though the AC Compressor locked down and actually melted the
 serpentine belt.

I have seen belts break but never one melt (I had it replaced
 approximately
7 months ago) but melt it certainly did.

How in the heck she could have been driving the vehicle and not heard the
belt screeching is way beyond me.

Now he, the husband, wants to know when I can have it repaired? Told him
flat out nope not going to happen - but I can recommend a good shop for
 this
 non technical work.

Sold him the car at a loss to make his wife happy and I am financing it
 for
him, interest free - repair it as well? I don't think so!

A car deal gone south can hurt a friendship in a hurry.

 I sold a 1978 Olds Cutlass to my Sister In-law 3 months later, I got a
call. She litterally screamed at me through the phone. The car was at a
local garage with 2 blow head gaskets she accused me of selling her a
 lemon.

I asked what happen and she stated that the red Hot light came on. I
asked what she did next and she stated that she drove it (17 miles) to a
friends house. And why? Because her friend had a phone she could use -
 this was pre-cell phone.

As it turns out, the radiator spring a leak the coolent ran low. This
was 100% her fault but if you ask her today, 20 years later, she will
still tell you that I sold her a lemon. At least I didn't finance the
 car.

You on the other hand are probably screwed, particularly when they find
out the compressor replacement cost possibly the head replacement
cost. They can't afford either. If they could then you would not be
 financing the car.

Yep, IMO used car salesmen get a bad rep from everyone - no matter what
 they
do they get blamed - no matter how hard they try to make the customer
 happy
 they still get blamed.

Dude! You gotta stop making interest free loans - that costs you money -
and you need paper saying if they want out or don;t make payments the
ownership stays with *you* as being the sole owner. The registration can
stay in your name as long as they have insurance, pay the
 title/registration
fees and make all payments as agreeed. Then, if they stop sending you
 money
or making payments, it will be easy to get the vehicle back - relatively
 speaking of course.

There are ways but at some point the friendship will become strained -
 which
is better than destroying it they way they have been treating you.

They want a business warranty while having a friends loan. You in deep
 do-doo. ;-)

In he future, if someone wants to buy a car you own, put it in an
 impartial
parties hands and let them sell it to them. I bet your friends walks
 away.

 Take care -

 Kaleb,

This guy has three times the mechanical ability I have. We both produce
biodiesel but my processing is like kindergarten compared to his. He
produces over 4,000 gallons per week.

I guess there is no way to say this without being a snob, but - did you
 ever
get the feeling that some people just don't possess something making
them worthy of owning a Mercedes? I am beginning to wonder if perhaps
 they
would not have been happier with a dependable/beat up looking pick up?

So far this year I have lost my shirt selling Mercedes vehicles. Mostly
 to
people I knew some on EBay and no one ever seems happy with their
 purchases.
It seems the harder I work to help someone else the more it comes back to
bite me in the A! I have a 300D manual right now a beautiful Dark Brick
Red color it has some challenges all minor. I sold that one on EBay for
 a
$2,000.00 loss, allowed the guy to store it here and agreed to just take
interest free payments until it was all paid for. Six months later the
 guy
is behind - tells me he never wanted the vehicle and know wants all his
 money back

Can't wait to get rid of the rest of the Mercedes I am gong to sell and
 just
keep the ones I am going to, and be done with the headache/losses! I HATE
 the car business!

A car deal gone south can hurt a friendship in a hurry.

I sold a 1978 Olds Cutlass to my Sister In-law 3 months later, I got
 a
call. She litterally screamed at me through the phone. The car was at a
local garage with 2 blow head gaskets she accused me of selling her a
 lemon.

I asked what happen and she stated that the red Hot light came on. I
asked what she did next and she stated that she drove it (17 miles) to
 a
friends house.

One other question, Im trying to remember the windows command that brings

computer at work that is VERY slow and want to manually select or deselect
which programs load at startup. There is some command that you run that
brings up a window that lists everything that loads and you can unselect
what you dont want to load.

The guy where I work who does that stuff seems to usually buy from

Myself I would not bother just buy a Dell off the shelf and be done

If your PC is really old and you just want to jump a few years forward
check out a used PC, you can get them for next to nothing, maybe pop a

Thank you to EVERYONE on this list that helped give these children a Great
Christmas. All they could talk about was how this was the best Christmas
ever. I will post pictures of them with their presents a little later so
you can all see my new angels-(sometimes).
I really appreciate all of your kindness throughout my newest fiasco.

My Brother-In-Law thinks that he make bail. He sent the kids a Christmas
card (that I did not read to them).
It said I am having a better vacation now. I am in a better hotel now. I
am able to play cards with my friends and watch TV. It's nicer!
Isn't that special? My sister is dead and he is on vacation. What a piece
 of work.
Anyway thank you for your support, kindness, and prayers.
Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!

When you start the car, turn the ignition switch back just a hair. The
spring in the switch is probably not completely returning to the run
position or its not making good contact when you start the car. Just do it
a hair. Put it on defrost or something while doing this so you can tell for
sure if it comes back on. Pretty common. Just get used to doing that or
replace the ignition switch.

Ah, so I'm presently experiencing a complete failure with my the climate
control in my '87 300TD, which sorta sucks...you know, being that it's
sub-freezing and all. Right now I'm getting no heat or fan output at all.
I thought the default failure mode would kick the mono-valve wide open,
allowing full heat into the cabin--that's obviously not going on here.

So, this started somewhat intermittently, with the fan failing to kick in
until a few minutes after starting the car, even on defrost. Then I
 noticed
a clicking behind the dash when I accelerated first thing in the morning.
 Now, there's nothing at all.

I just swapped in a spare pushbutton unit, but the failure mode is exactly
the same. I also changed the #7 fuse in the box. I don't presently have
 my
CD manual with me, so I'm blindly flailing around in desperation. Does
anyone have a clue what's going on here? Klima? OVP relay?

 TIA,
 Casey

Well they are still a bit wild and out of control so to speak. Will take
some work to get them to behave properly.

I am curious as to how the kids are reacting to this turn of events so
far.
 Excited? Quiet? Glum?

Regina got back last night with the kids. We still do not have power
 but
I was able to borrow a generator to run the basics. Came in to work
  for
 a
little bit this morning, but will be off the rest of the week so I
  wont
 be
able to get email unless the power comes back on. Well, that and my
internet access. The gen will run the computer but my ISP is also
  down.
  Anyway, more updates later.

Re: [MBZ] Gotta love MB

2007-12-19 Thread Kaleb C. Striplin, work
Lets see JR started out with a 116, then had a 126 which sometimes appeared
as a 380SEL, and sometimes I saw it as a 300SD. Bobby for most of the show
had a red 107, which started out as a 450SL, then a 380SL. I THINK around
the time that Pam died or whatever happened to her It was a 560, but I think
it was a black one but cant remember. I do know he also has some other
convertible too. Back to JR, for a little bit he had a later model 126 but
then switched to a Cadillac. I have seen the Jock big ol lincoln in person
when I visited the ranch a while back.

Perhaps it was that JR Ewing drove one on Dallas?

Of course, Jock also drove a big ole Lincoln and so did Ray Crebbs wife
Donna. But, you are right. I wanted a Mercedes when I saw JR had one.
JR was the bad guy, but I always liked JR.

Now, when Sue Ellen went from the big Ford Country Squire Wagon to a 123
Diesel Wagon, soccer moms nationwide wanted a MB wagon.

Re: [MBZ] Glow light - '90 300D 2.5

2007-12-19 Thread Kaleb C. Striplin, work
Does your ABS light also come on at the same time? If so, your overvoltage
relay is going out, or has a loose connection. When it starts working again,
it will start idling normal and the glow light will come back on.

Subject: [MBZ] Glow light - '90 300D 2.5

The glow light has started acting strange in the '90 300D 2.5. It
doesn't light when you turn the key to the glowing position (I did
verify that the plugs get electricity in this position), the car
starts right up, idles faster and rougher than usual, then about 30
seconds later, while driving down the street, the glow light comes on,
and stays on for 30 seconds to a minute (haven't timed it - seems
forever), then eventually goes off. At the next stop, the car idles
 normally.
I assume the glow light issue is the glow plug relay, but what about
the idle - I'm guessing the electronic idle controller is wonky? Are
 the two electrically related somehow?
The glow plugs and the relay fuse were replaced last Spring.

 Any guesses, or informed opinions?
