All spayed/neutered and have first two rabies shots (except one wild one still needs second shot). Local vet did neutering free (only paid for shots). Unfortunately, all but two turned out to be females (at about $100/spay). A local animal welfare group relocates adoptable cats and dogs from local shelter to northern states where they are in short supply. Our Country animal shelter is transitioning to a no-kill shelter, and part of the process involving feral cats is capture, spay/neuter and release. They notch the cat’s ear when this is done so they can be identified. It’s working pretty well. Their euthanasia numbers have gone down significantly. The worst part is people bringing in kittens that are not weaned. We live on an old tobacco farm in rural NC. The 11 outdoor rescue cats are part of a group of 21 that were abandoned when some white-trash neighbors abandoned their USDA-financed house two plus years ago. My other neighbor still has three of them and the rest disappeared, died, or got run over.
