[MBZ] 190D 2.5 turbo - now with pictures
http://boston.craigslist.org/nwb/cto/912003975.html This is the 190D 2.5t that Fred and I looked at a couple weeks ago, they've added pics now. Those aren't blackout tail lights, somebody's lightly painted them... The paint looks pretty good from the pics but looks like crap in person... Good for a laugh anyway. -Curt ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new parts see official list sponsor: http://www.buymbparts.com/ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

I've never driven mine faster than walking pace, but from what I recall, they are supposed to accelerate to 100kph like a 1987 300D, with fuel economy maybe 10% better than a 1990-93 300D. The W124/OM603 has it beat for top speed. It has less back seat room than a Dodge Omni, but you already knew that. Nice, but at over $3k with reserve not met? Come on!

[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Nice, but at over $3k with reserve not met? Come on! A (former?) lister (Meade) has a 100kmi 5sp non-turbo that he wants over $6k for. I was conversing with Archer about the costs of restoring a W201 to mechanical perfection and we came to the conclusion that it was cheaper to buy a $6,000 car if it still ran and looked like new. Meade's car was doctor owned and dealer maintained from day one until he bought it. Most of the cheap W201s are neglected and imperfect in every way, so it's cost prohibitive to raise them up to a high standard. I bought a wrecked turbo 190D for about $400 including fuel to drag it home. I then got a fantastic deal on a rustfree 200kmi 2.3-16v with perfect seats and a lot of malfunctioning accessories. I can probably combine the two and fix the cruise, A/C etc for around $4k total not including the considerable value of my time. If I rebuild the engine and put the car in the condition I really want, the price goes north of $6k in a hurry. (but it would likely be the only 250hp turbo 190D in the USA) Mitch.

Having almost 300,000 neglected miles is not a good thing either. It would be a great donor for a turbo conversion as all the stuff is there. I'm considering grabbing it just for that purpose. A 2.5 turbo 5spd conversion. I would freshen- up the engine while it is out, for sure. How much do you want for that tranny? I'm sure someone here could have a use for it. I'd buy it for a spare but my Euro has only 65,000 mi and my tranny is sweet and loaded with Amsoil synthetic fluid. I expect it to last at least the ten years that I plan on keeping this car around. At least this one has had very little exposure to road salt. It will be tucked away for next Winter and all to follow. Johnny B. I Mac Therefore I am
[MBZ] 190D 2.5 turbo - rare?
How rare is a 190D 2.5 turbo? I saw one this morning with 165kmi on it, and didn't look too bad otherwise. Aside from rarity, how is this car to drive and own? -- Sunil Hari [EMAIL PROTECTED] 513-205-7474
Re: [MBZ] 190D 2.5 turbo - rare?
It will have all the 190 woes (some shared by the W124), and is both scarce (one year production for the US) and FAST. They get decent milage, although nothing like the 190D manny tranny. Peter

Re: [MBZ] 190D 2.5 turbo - rare?
Fewer than 1400 201.128s (190D 2.5 turbo) were MANUFACTURED in '87 (the ONLY year they were imported to the US) and only some of those manufactured were brought to th US. They drive almost a nicely as a 124 (actually just a little more sportingly), are more economical, are very fast (top speed 120 mph), and give good economy (mid 30s). They have all the same problems that most 201s and 124s have and there are parts (like the radiator, exhaust) that are abslutely unique to the 190D 2.5t - so only factory parts are available (because no aftermarket company wants to make parts for a scarce car). That makes SOME repairs expensive. Marshall -- Marshall Booth Ph.D. Ass't Prof. (ret.)
