IMHO, the 115 chassis drives better than the 123.The 126 is better yet! However, I'd FAR rather work on a 123 240D than a 115 240D, given the choice! At least if the 115 has air conditioning. The first is a Manny tranny 1974 240D with crank windows (imagine that!) that runs and looks good, starts dependably and has no issues other than a dying battery from being in storage for the past few years. Since it's not at the lady's house, she didn't know the mileage, but I'll be looking at it later in the week. The second is a 1982 300SD with 290K on it, it needs tires, it's got power window problems, a stuck sunroof, non-working ACC and cruise control, and I believe it also has an oil leak (no idea of where and how severe it is). The guy has been trying to sell this car placing multiple ads with no luck. I like both models, but the 300SD seems like it needs someone like Jim Cathey to sort it all out, not necessarily a bad deal. The 240D is rock solid and simple, so...? Re: [MBZ] 1974 240D $700 or 1982 300SD $800?
luck. I like both models, but the 300SD seems like it needs someone like I prefer the looks of the 123, but for driving I'd probably prefer the 126. Jim Cathey to sort it all out, not necessarily a bad deal. Here I am! I just can't go too long without a Mercedes diesel! The part I can't quite figure out is why you can't seem to go too long _with_ a Mercedes diesel! :-) You need to find one you really like, and then stick with that awhile maybe. Turnover costs (various) are gonna getcha. -- Jim
Re: [MBZ] 1974 240D $700 or 1982 300SD $800?
Sunil, I've always wanted a nice W115, and this may just be it. The exterior and interior are both the creamy yellow/beige color, and if it looks and runs as nice as Melody tells me, she can consider it sold. It will get an oil and filter change, new fuel filters, oilbath air filter cleaning, valve adjustment/timing chain check, fresh fuel and some Italian tune-up action! Kevin in Hillsboro Oregon, ready for my first W115
Re: [MBZ] 1974 240D $700 or 1982 300SD $800?
You're right, Jim. Finding the right one is KEY, and if it's the wrong one, it should be one that's worth some bucks. I really do want one to have around for a while. The 73 220D wasn't the right W115, but hopefully, this one will be a keeper. Kevin in Hillsboro, Oregon, hoping for a long term MB diesel car relationship soon

[MBZ] 1974 240D $700 or 1982 300SD $800?
I'm ready to put my $700 from the sale of the 300CD into another car. I put an ad out there for a cheap fixer, and I've got options. [MBZ] 1974 240D Philly area
This is the one I went and looked at before I settled on my 79 240D (just can not part with 123) See or do a search on Big Lot http://www.thebiglot.com/ad_auto.asp?WI=945342612MK=MERCEDES%20BENZMD=240DPN=1AT=1; Car is still for sale, guy called me today he would reduce price. Might be worth a look see, I think the tranny made need work or some vacuum adjustments if applicable for that model. If you are looking for a 115 chassis this is pretty nice very very little if any rust., I drove her not bad, but needs some work, minor stuff as these cars always need.
