Re: [MBZ] 240d Front Brakes
Sorry to toss in this news flash, but here's a suggestion stay far away from Auto Zone replacement parts. The very first time I used their replacement brake pads I had one pad completely shave itself off the backing plate after installing it. I've never messed with Autozone pads, but I bought some PBR pades for my Volvo once, and they were real thick. ___ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://striplin.net/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_striplin.net -- 69 280 SEL 120,000 Miles 72 350SL 108,000 Miles 2004 VW Passat 4 Motion 1999 Mazda Miata __ Switch to Netscape Internet Service. I have found with the autozone pads they are always MUCH thinner new than what new OEM pads would be. I've got a sneaky suspicion a car made that late in 1974 is probably a 1975 model year. Can't you decode that from the VIN, somehow? New pads are always tight, especially aftermarket ones, but if you're short 1/4 with the pistons in all the way something is wrong. ___ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://striplin.net/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_striplin.net -- Kaleb C. [MBZ] 240d Front Brakes
Went to the local Auto Zone and bought front pads for my 240D. Door panel is dated 12/74. So I told the clerk '74 240D, Mercedes Benz Diesel. Got home, took tire and caliper off, wrong pads. Went back and matched up outside shape and 2 holes for brace and the pads were for a 230. Went back home and everything fits other than the fact there isn't enough clearance for the rotor. WTF! Took brake line off caliper, cranked pistons down with 2 C clamps until there all the way tight. Still short 1/4 (Sorry, metrically challenged). Double WTF. Maybe there is more pad than required? Car on jackstands on a Labor Day weekend. Any suggestions? I'm stuck until Auto Zone re-opens. Did Mercedes mix and match parts? FRED DE VRIES
