[MBZ] Celebrity Cars

2006-01-26 Thread Alan Duff
If you are looking for celebrity cars, have a look at this one. Apparently
some old commie owned it and managed to outlive the Russian mafia.

I did see (forget where - DARN!) my childhood hero (Dr. Werner von Braun,
chief architecht of US rocket program, specifically the fabulous Saturn V (and
the Nazi V2 for that matter)) standing next to his ponton outside the Kennedy
(then Cape Canaveral) main office building. Very cool picture. Perhaps the
greatest engineer of all time drove a Benz. :-)

P.S. learned a cool new German word: Racketenflugplatz - rocket launching
field. Maybe I can label the 240D's section of the driveway with that word.
HAHAHA!

The natural gas pipelines keep flowing unless there is a major break in
the line. Remember, we supply gas to the folks up North. I work for
Williams Gas Pipeline, and one of our lines runs from Corpus Christi,
TX, to NYC. If there was a major gas leak in a housing development, they
would probably shut off gas to the development. If there was a major
disaster, such as in New Orleans communities, the gas would probably be
shut off to those areas. If there is that much damage, I won't need a
generator; I will be gone.

...Would not natural gas supplies also be disrupted? Don't they shut
off the feed to prevent fires?

Re: [MBZ] Celebrity Cars

My favorite german word is still einspritzung - fuel injection.

There was an MB ad with techno music in the background, showing photos of
people and their Benzes. One of them was Kareem Abdul Jabbar with a 109 or
a 116. That was cool just based on his size next to the car. The final
tagline was No one takes a photo with their toaster.

My favorite sentence from German A at college (c. 1964) was: Ich muss die
Rundfunkrechnung bezahlen, which means I have to pay my radio license
fee.
