Sure can. S'not though, this is a good American trailer from the '70s! Only
rust protection was a poor quality coat of paint. Fortunately previous owners
repainted and I've kept up with it, except on this bit which is deep underneath.

Just be a bit careful if the trailer is galvanized. The fumes can make you ill.

Yup, and the tilt mechanism on mine is pretty simple, two C channel pieces with
3 bolts. Just need to take off the
middle piece of decking to get at it...

Thanks guys, yes I'll check those out. Tires were new a few years ago
and have very little mileage on them but lots of time sitting in the
boat storage yard. I was thrilled to find that they still had pressure
after so many years. I think I paid $60 each for genuine trailer tires,
and only used the boat once after installing them (our daughter was born
and risky family fun was on hold for a few years).

This past weekend I finally installed my Oris trailer wiring harness
in my '87 300TD, and retrieved our sailboat which has been languishing

in a storage yard for about four years. During the short trip from
the yard, which was about a mile long at speeds of 20 mph and less,
the ride was strange. At speeds above a few miles per hour, the car
bounced/jerked mildly. After the transmission shifted into second,
and I went a little faster, the ride seemed to get better. At first I

thought it was a suspension problem, but now I'm thinking it may be a
transmission problem. There seemed to be more up/down motion than
fore/aft.

Could this be a bad torque converter? Sometimes when hot and stopping

after a highway run, I get a judder in the last few feet before
stopping. Today I decided to test the stall speed, and it would only
reach about 1100 RPM or so. Does anyone know the stall speed? '87
 300TD, transmission is 722.357.

 Very respectfully,

How much pressure? I've found that my snowmobile trailer is much better behaved
with 50# in the tires instead of 30#. The sidewall max is 60# I think... I've
also had far fewer blowouts with the increased pressure.

I'd be worth giving the whole trailer the once over. Coming home last spring
from the last snowmobile ride of the year my trailer gave a strange bounce.
When I got home I realized I couldn't use the tilt feature. Turns out the mount
for the tongue had broken and the whole thing was held together just by the
tilt safety chain... Pretty scary.

Yes, I need to test each wheel and bearing. I doubt the tires had 30 lbs in
them, I pumped them back up to 60, and agree 100% that proper tires and
pressure make a huge difference.
