That is my weird obsession: Navajo rugs. I treat Navajo rugs and Rolexes in the 
same manner; I lust after them from afar and dare not ever buy one because it 
would be like an alcoholic taking a shot. 
I have two smaller rugs, made for me by a precious Navajo woman in 1972, my 
uncle is holding hostage. I hope to get those back some day.

Yes, the food was great. We probably spent 2-3 hours going through the museum 
and the art space that the owner has. Some pretty cool stuff. Did you see the 
largest Navaho rug ever woven when you were there? That and all the 
railroad-related history. A really cool place, we’ll go again.

Tomorrow it’s the Meteor Crater. Yeah, I know, but the youngest and Mrs. Dan 
have never seen it, so I’m taking them. It’s sort of touristy, but it’s still a

starting in 1989 or 90 and a few times after that. Bet you didn’t know that a

I was at WalMart on Sunday, and there was the typical tourista family from the 
valley all carrying their disposable plastic snow sled things that will end up 
on the side of the road somewhere.

Social media will reverberate for days whenever there is snow from the people 
outside the area posting, “Is there any snow??” Like they’ve never heard of the 
NWS or the Weather app on their phone…

It’s a glorious day today! Already been out in the 20F morning to blow snow, 
shovel the roof a little, and now I’m heading over to Winslow to have a nice 
day in the sun with a little more heat.

valley all carrying their disposable plastic snow sled things that will end up 
on the side of the road somewhere.

Social media will reverberate for days whenever there is snow from the people 
outside the area posting, “Is there any snow??” Like they’ve never heard of the 
NWS or the Weather app on their phone…

It’s a glorious day today! Already been out in the 20F morning to blow snow, 
shovel the roof a little, and now I’m heading over to Winslow to have a nice 
day in the sun with a little more heat.

It happens about 1x-2x a year down here. Some doofus dog owner is walking 
Fluffy too close to the edge of a pond or other body of water, and a gator 
decides to make a snack out of Fluffy.

The owner gets all upset (despite the warning signs all over the place) and 
wants the gator trapped and killed. Nope!

People don’t understand that their pets are part of the food chain down here if 
they let them out in the wild, or don’t avoid their habitat. Around my Florida 
house are gators, feral hogs and Florida panthers, to name a few predators. We 
have coyotes, too.

I don’t get it.

I was walking a friend’s Golden doodle today. We were walking on a sidewalk, 
along a wash among the houses. As we trundled along, Sampson suddenly stood up 
on his hind legs to get a good look out into the wash (which he often does to 
be able to see over the scruffy bushes). About 20’ away from us, three coyotes 
popped up out of the scrub and slinked off about 20 more feet away on a small 
hill. As we stood there looking at his wild cousins I noticed they seemed to be 
focused back from where we came. I turned and looked and an older lady walking 
a little terrier was coming up from behind. The coyotes seemed to be very 
focused on them. 
I shouted out to the lady suggesting she go the other way since the coyotes 
seem to be interested in them. Instead of turning and walking the other way, 
she scurried over so she could take some pictures of the coyotes since, “ no 
one back home will believe me.” 
As she approached the coyotes kind of regrouped and began approaching in a 
stalking fashion. I shouted at her again, I whistled loudly hoping to startle 
the coyotes and neither were phased. So, the boy in me picked up a rock and 
pelted the lead coyote which caused them all to disperse.
Of course, I was compelled to relay this story to Sampson’s owner and from now 
on she will be packing heat on her walks. I made her promise me she wouldn’t 
shoot stupid dog walkers. 
These coyotes are getting much more bold as all of these neighborhoods encroach 
on their hoods.

There’s a hoitie-toitie “meat market” in the upscale gentrified part of town 
here that just opened a place near me.

I went in to check it out a few weeks ago. Not my idea of a meat market, 
basically a retail storefront  place with freezers the length of both walls, 
nothing fresh, no butcher, no meat counter.

All sorts of expensive exotic meat. All frozen. Ugh.

exotic dinner on the hoof.  Zebra, Ibex, Kangaroo (I really wanted to get a

Well, maybe so. You have to wonder if the calf slipped on the wet grass, 
or if it suddenly saw the streams of water from the sprinkler and was 
uncertain of what it was and managed to duck it. If so, it did a great
