Re: [MBZ] Larry's 300D 2.5

2020-03-21 Thread Larry Turner via Mercedes

HI Curly,
Sorry to hear you are having more problems with "my" 300D.  I don't
recall any turbo problems, but it sat for about a year while I figured
out what to do with it.  The only way I ever checked to confirm things
were as they should be was to warm it up then do a 0-60 test looking for
around 6+ Seconds.  (I may be wrong on the # of seconds as it's been a
while since I did that test.)

I was going to adjust the ALDA at one point but the professor said the
91 ALDA did not benefit from adjusting.  Can't recall the specifics.

So the rear wheels aligned without trouble?  I know you put a lot of
work into the rear suspension!

Stay safe!
Larry

getting some boost, but not where it should be.

What should be next?   Turn up the alda?

The 87 300D will chirp the tires going from 1st to 2nd.   THis one is
nowhere near that.   With a missing cyl, it may never chirp the tires,
but all y'all have talked about how these are better than the 87.   So
far, I like the 87/OM603 better.

You probably have a vacuum leak somewhere. The turbo is vacuum
operated on these rather than pressure. Low vacuum equals no boost.

Check the switch-over valves, they tend to fail and cause error conditions that
lead to no boost.

Ditto for perished vacuum lines to the servos.

If the black box (EDS) has an analog/digital fit, you have no boost. I recall
mentioning this on Dimitri's alternator thread. Two solutions, fix the EDS
(troubleshooting required) or GXRS aka Spudboy aka Dave Meiman's wastegate fix.
It requires parts to turn it into a mechanical system. I've seen the thread on
Peach Parts or one of the other forums. If I get a chance tonight, I'll find
the thread and post a link.

Got it aligned today.   Will pick it up in the morning, and it goes
immediately into service.   Running out to the alignment place, it did
not appear that the turbo was working, or at least it was lazy.  I will
blow out the line to the intake manifold.

What other things should I check?   OVP relay?

It is a 91, and think I heard that you can't block off the EGR on these
without causing a digital fit with some black box.  I forgot if there is
a way to check EGR because I always blocked it (easy) or took it off
(Best)  It has a nest of vacuum pods on top of the EGR, and I have not
investigated any of these yet.
