Also have a 7200, G3 Beige and Blue/white Macs, along with a Wall street laptop with OS 10 on it, looking for homes if anyone is interested. Pay the freight, and they are yours! Wall street? That would be nearly Pismo-licious, and probably perfect for my son's Riven game, etc., but without the builtin Airport. (Porn-free, etc.) Color me interested! Oh, and I have one other, can't remember the model, but it is also an 030, the small one. I used it for a headless print server for quite a while. That would (should?) be the SE30. I have one, nice little machine. -- Jim ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

If such is appropriate for 10 year old who is looking to have her own computer I am interested. I also have two very old mac 1400cs powerbook laptops that someone might need for parts. They still work, but require too much for a PC trained 10 YO or a 60 YO grandpa to use. Re: [MBZ] Macs of all flavors
i did, actually. i really tried very hard to make the zip standard work. but it really just doesn't. blank cds and dvds are just so cheap and pen drives are far superior to zip. zip is dead technology for a long while. i don't even think i could sell my zip stuff on ebay for the cost of shipping it. it was cool in the beginning, to have a floppy drive that was not 1.2 meg, but 100 then 250 and then 750 meg. however, you can get 100 recordable single sided dvd discs for 18 bucks delivered from new egg (well, at least i did), so why the hell would you mess about with zip, especially as you will be hard pressed to find a machine with a zip drive today unless you happened to just set it up that way for your own internal use? Re: [MBZ] Macs of all flavors
I have one I used, tried at some point to copy files over to a hard drive, and Winders kept hanging up on some file that it didn't like (wasn't corrupted, just didn't like transferring the particular file) so the whole process crashed after like 15 min of grinding away and no idea which files moved over and which didn't, only that it crashed at one particular file after some lengthy time. I hate Windows. --R Allan Streib wrote: On Tue, 08 Sep 2009 14:03 -0400, Gary Hurst jabbahur...@gmail.com wrote: i think the days of zip drive are pretty much done Did anyone ever really *use* them? Re: [MBZ] Macs of all flavors
I used not only zip drives but also the syquest EZ135 competing technology. Never any problems. Zip was really weird on Wintel because it was ISA or PCI, but showed up as a scsi device. On Macs, it was just another SCSI device. I still have a bunch of that stuff too, but there is no market, so I will keep it so long as I have old Macs with SCSI. Re: [MBZ] Macs of all flavors
Heck yeah! I've got a big stack of them around somewhere. I've got both SCSI and USB versions... On the old 9 Macs (like the Plus though the Color Classic) the SCSI zip drive made a dandy hard drive replacement. You still needed something else to boot to but once booted the zip worked sweet. Back in '99 I used Zip drives extensively as the company I worked for didn't have good network shares. I also used 'em to haul stuff to work to burn to CD. Winzip would allow you to span multiple disks, so 7 zip disks brought 1 cd to work... -Curt Date: Tue, 08 Sep 2009 14:09:34 -0400 From: Allan Streib str...@cs.indiana.edu Subject: Re: [MBZ] Macs of all flavors To: Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Message-ID: 1252433374.5148.1333812...@webmail.messagingengine.com Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii On Tue, 08 Sep 2009 14:03 -0400, Gary Hurst jabbahur...@gmail.com wrote: i think the days of zip drive are pretty much done Did anyone ever really *use* them? I just remember the click of death problems and how I literally scrapped hundreds of them at one time. We had one on every machine (Macs) in our elementary schools.
