Nope - I am not willing to try Pinterest. The infrequent link that
gets me there is a memorable bad event, that's all.
Firefox is what I use. Whatever AdBlock is in that distro... no add

Yes, free is nice. The tracking and snooping of history and other
stuff - no! They have enough data about me already.
Firefox is what I use also. Go see pinterest for really invasive
stuff. Pinterest shows a little stuff and then as you try to scroll,
more of the page is blocked. Annoyance.

complaining but is not an issue for me. And besides, for free, you

2006-08-27 Thread dan elliott

Hello All,

Not sure if this made the list but I read in a magazine that MB was
opening the first manufacturer backed classic car center in Inrvine
CA. The center will offer sales, restoration and search assistance
for models 20 years and older. I did a google search and sure enough
I came up with http://www.mbusa.com/heritage/classic-center-
california.do

Hope others will find this interesting, perhaps a good place to get
an usual part.

That is exactly what you do - give it to a competent mailhouse. No
mailhouse that I ever worked with would be sending out mags
via Priority mail.

MBUSA was not running an international mailing - they were distributing
within the US. It is VERY simple. You have the mags shipped from
printer (in Germany) to your US mailhouse and you give the mailhouse
a list. The distribution could have been done by 1 person. You
never even see the mags, except for the leftovers.

I know a bunch of maihouses in KC who would love to get their hands
on a job that size. It is not People or National Geo, but a mailing
is a mailing.

oh well, it's one more periodical I can add to my list of things to
subscribe to after about another year of German lessons.

They probably tried to contract it out to a bulk mailing house, but it isn't
as simple or cheap to do this as you might think, when you get into
international and that run is actually quite small by bulk mailing
standards.

The mag is available on (good) newsstands here, but typically arrives quite
late vis. the cover date on the product.

Corporate commitment to magazines of that sort is usually pretty thin, DC is
probably at the top of the charts in that respect, with BMW a distant second
and everyone else way back.

For example, Volvo has had more mags come and go than I've had hot dinners,
as the saying goes. Ford seems have finally caught on that the Big V
heritage is worth pushing, but they did so only after stupid moves such as
cancelling the Volvo race programmes (BTCC, etc.), which had done more for
Volvo's image than a decade of Super Bowl commercials, etc.

Goddamn pencilneck braindead auto industry execs.

Sorry for the mini-rant.

Howdy -
Don't know if you thought of it or even put it in the same catagory -

Re: [MBZ] Mercedes Benz Classic

2006-05-28 Thread l02turner

Chris,
Maybe you could guess at what's gping on with me/my Mercedes magazine>?
about a week ago a large envelop postmarked Germany - arrived with a slick
MB mag that says 01 2006 (Jan? 1st qtr?) with the only explanation being a
paper looking like an invoice but entirely in German.

When I bought the 91 300D in Feb 06 I notified MBNA of the ownership change
& may faxed request for a invoice. I didn't request a subscription of
"Mercedesmagazine" although I did receive a coupld years of "Mercedes" back
in the 80s - and it was animpressive magazine IMHO.

Any idea why they'd send me a copy of this magazine?

Last time I talked to them, they said they were trying to figure out how to
reimburse people for issue that they are not going to receive - like your

I think whatever department handled it at MBUSA is totally incompetent re:
magazine distribution. There is no reason that magazine cannot be
distributed profitably.

The most recent issue I have has 100 pages (incl. back cover) and have 5
pages of non-Mercedes ads. Has 4 pages of MB ads, and 2 pages of MB Classic
ads. Given that only 11% of their magazine is ads, it's no wonder that
subscription costs are so high. Normal newshole on a magazine is around
30-40%, and as high as 50-60% in women's magazines.

Re: [MBZ] Mercedes Benz Classic Magazine

2006-01-06 Thread Sunil Hari
I have the last 5 issues - covers were a 300SL, a 170S/220S/280SEL 3.5/300SL
(R107), a 190SL, a 280CE, and a 6.9/560SEL/S320 cover. All are excellent.
Back issues are expensive, but obtainable.

Actually I read in issue #10 that it was unusual to have the first cars, as
they do with the 280CE, as they were usually crash tested, but the 1st 280CE
survived and surfaced not that long ago, neat story behind it

I agree. I get mine the same way, too. I'm about to get my third one, the
first I got was issue #10- that feautred the very last W123 280CE ever
made-

so obviously I was pretty pleased. I would like to get the whole back
collection, it think it's $49, maybe $55 dollars. It was started in 2002,
I'm guessing no matter what it will have historical significance one day.
They sell for 6 euros, and since the buck is weak to it, $22 is pretty
good.

Besides, imagine what a limited specialty market it caters to, I'm sure
it's not cheap to produce a mag of that caliber. If you like to read

1-800-FOR-MERCEDES, select option 4, then option 2, then subscribe by
talking to a nice lady. 4 issues per year, and they're spectacular.

After removing the head, cleaning everything off, and reassembling
it with copper spray-on goo it went back together and ran without
any immediate signs of external leakage. Progress at last! I'll
be keeping an eye on it for awhile to see if I can detect any
problems.

Wash, rinse, repeat. (Often I have to repeat such repairs a
time or two before they 'take').

Weird that you have two blinkers. I'd always thought your car
