No such luck here. I have large oaks on both driveways that drop copious
acorns. The deer love them.

Oh forgot to mention, they have a vehicle only sensor which you bury in the
ground. I didn't get that because it won't sense people walking up the
drive. I'm willing to put up with the alerts from deer that wander by there,
it helps with knowing when to go hunting don't-cha-know.

On this one you can set the sensing to exclude
smaller animals. I don't mind the batteries since
the drive is overhung with trees so based on all
the other items I have that are solar and don't
work in the shade after a few days I'm happy with
what I have, especially since I have all those
trees between the house and the gate. The second
one works just as good at over 1000 feet also
through trees. With the cheaper units I found that
those trees cut a lot of signal.

I've had deer in the front yard and deer in the back yard, but never saw
deer tracks in the driveway anywhere near the house.

So I'm hoping the deer don't wake me up in the night.
Mom's alarm goes off when a cat walks up the driveway.

In 2010 I bought this setup as well as another
sensor and the handheld portable receiver. That
way when I am out and about in the yard, 42ac, I
have communication with the house. I replace the
batteries once a year before it gets cold and it
still works flawlessly. Well except for the few
times when I have to clear out the wasp nests in
the detector cone which is a problem you will have
with any detector.

I have bought a couple of other less expensive
items before that promised up to 1/2 miles
reception but delivered less then 200 feet.

Can't say enough good things about that Dakota system.

Yeah I need to get those.  My poodle who we had let go last year alerted
me one night to a truck coming down the driveway, it was warm so I had
the windows open and I guess he heard it. He was growling like I had
never heard him do.  I saw the lights coming down the driveway toward
the house and grabbed a shotgun and went to the front door and watched.
I guess whoever was driving had second thoughts, the truck turned around
and left.  It was odd, in the back window were red LED lights spelling
out 8X8 in big letters.  Jacked-up 4x4, white it looked like.  I figured
that truck would be easy to spot but I have never seen it, have asked
others and they have never seen it either.  Kinda weird.

I have a coupla game cameras I need to put up again and get pics of
comings and goings.

I should get something like this, I would probably put one by the driveway and
maybe one out by the shop/barn in case somebody was walking around out there.
It would be the same deal it would be mounted to a tree so not sure it would
get enough sun.

I have an older model (Skylink HA-300) that requites 9v batteries in the
sensors. They always trigger on the UPS truck but sometimes fail to "see"
white cars, especially when raining. Mine are attached to big trees so I
don't know if the photocells would get enough light on the north side or
when the trees are leafed out. One feature I really like is the inside unit
maintains contact with the sensors and flashes a light if contact is lost.
The other occasional problem is an insect inside the sensor causing constant
false alarms. Mine are only transmitting a couple hundred feet so I don't
Know about max range. Overall, a good thing to have.
