Re: [MBZ] OT: The long awaited blackpowder pistol

2017-11-17 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
Doesn't work, there's always black on the sheet. Only about 80% of the powder
actually burns. The traditional method is to keep adding powder until accuracy
falls off and then dial back a bit.

I'm going to shoot over dad's chronograph some and see where the velocity
increase slows down, that'll be my hunting load, probably around 80 grains. I'd
like to have the 127 grain ball moving around 2000fps.

I think the traditional way to figure the load is to lay the rifle
with the muzzle on a white sheet.  Increase the load until there
is lots of soot on the sheet.  That indicates wasted powder.  I
don't know how that effects the accuracy.

If anyone has a Eye Tal Yan replica colt Navy 36 available, I am

Frankly I was surprised I hit the paper, these guns were a novelty when they
were new and haven't aged terrifically well. The thing I like about this one is
its the rifle cut down, same trigger system, same lock, same barrel just
shortened, same sights although the notch on the rear one isn't machined all
the way.
Dad has a .50 cal flintlock version he wants me to shoot. I'm not sure why
everybody wants me to shoot these but if people keep giving them to me I'll
shoot them. ;)
