About 1/2" diameter. I found some at AutoZone, marked for "Honda bumper trim" and they looked about right. It was dark by the time I got home. Screws I got from Lowes. Re: [MBZ] OT maybe Honda transmission fluid is magic
Part arrived yesterday and I installed it today. It seems to be both a filter and a check valve. I suspect more of the latter. Anyway haven't driven the car yet. Installation was a big PITA involving removal of several plastic panels and the front bumper to get access. These were held in place by plastic push rivets which cracked on removal, and several screws that had to be drilled out because they were rusted and seized. So I need to get some replacements for that to put the nose of the car back together. Removing the bumper revealed some collision damage. Nothing serious, but some sheet metal was pushed out of place. I bent it back to basically where it should have been. The filter is small so I'm not really expecting this will make a lot of difference. On the plus side I was finally able to replace the H3 bulb in the right-hand foglight, which is ridiculously inaccessible for something that needs routine replacement. Yeah some. The common problems seem to be a solenoid (which I've replaced) and belief in the magic Honda fluid (which is in use). Honestly I think at 213K miles it may just be at EOL given whatever likely minimal care it had before my ownership. But changing an external filter is cheap enough to be worth trying. Re: [MBZ] OT maybe Honda transmission fluid is magic
Well the problem has started to return -- so if the fluid is magic it was used quickly. I guess there is an inline filter in the line to the cooler. I was told the filter was internal to the transmission and not replacable without disassembly. https://www.hondapartsnow.com/genuine/honda~filter~25430-plr-003.html When I start the car I hear a whine like the transmission pump is starved for fluid. That goes away after warm up. But the level is at the max mark on the dipstick. So maybe the filter is so dirty that not enough is circulating when cold and pressure is too low for good gear changes. Anyway it should be one last cheap thing to try. Allan Allan Streib writes: > Didn't end up driving it yesterday. Didn't end up driving it yesterday. Drove it about 10 or 15 miles today at a variety of speeds, then did the final drain/fill with the last of the fresh fluid I have on hand. It's about $8.75/qt so I don't want to be too frivolous with it. A drain and fill is about 3.5 quarts. I'm assuming it might need another change or two at a reduced mileage interval from normal, but so far so good. I've heard the stories that if transmission fluid changes have been neglected, then changing the fluid can stir up a lot of sediment. Not sure how true that is, but if that's what happened the last time I changed it, perhaps that explains what is going on. Too bad the filter isn't a FRU. The one thing I do not like about the car is that it has a ridiculously thick A pillar in combination with a minimally curved windshield, which creates a blind spot wide enough to completely obscure a car or pedestrian. I have to actively look around it by leaning to the left or right. Had a couple of close calls before I got used to it. Re: [MBZ] OT maybe Honda transmission fluid is magic
If your 5 or 7 speed starts out in 2nd and stays in 2nd, you're in limp home mode due to an electrical fault. Most common reasons for 722.6 5 speed are failed conductor plate ($100-200 plus removing the valve body) or connector ($10-20 plus getting messy). Either one probably requires a computer reset to get it out of limp mode. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

I don't know about conductor plate in an 06, that's a 722.7 trans? I have changed a couple in the 722.6 transmission. That is a common problem. Re: [MBZ] OT maybe Honda transmission fluid is magic
There's something to be said for using the correct fluids in vehicles. My alternative was to try selling it as-is and probably getting little more than salvage value for it. Last time I changed it, I used Castrol fluid that said "for Honda" on the label. Fluid was black when I drained it. Filled with genuine Honda fluid, drove it around until it was warm. Drove better, but still dropped out of gear a few times (it seems to just drop into neutral instead of properly shifting to the next gear). Did the drain/fill again. Fluid was again black. It was dark by then so I called it a night. Today, drove it around the neighborhood for a while to warm it up. Shifted perfectly. Drained the fluid again, was somewhat dark but still transparent and red. Filled again, will drive it some more tomorrow. I have enough fluid for one more drain/fill. Not confident yet that this is a long term fix but so far it's looking hopeful.
