[MBZ] Outside Lower Door Panels W124
Howdy - Our '91 300D (W124) has plastic (?) exterior door panels which do an amazing job at fending off rust and dents/dings. I have a small spot of rust just above one of the panels (the panel on the L rear door) and don't want to break anything removing the panel. I need to take the panel off to make sure I get all the rust. The WSM doesn't do a good job describing the removal of the panels. There are screws at the front and rear of the door and I *think* the center part of the panel snaps onto plastic things on the door. I'd like to buy some new plastic keepers in case I break one or more of them. Anyone know how to remove those panels? Is it likely I'll break the holders? I'm off to look at the parts diagram will hopefully find pn's. Thanks! LarryT 91 300D OilAnalysis Time? I've never had a (post-'91?) 124 with the plastic door cladding, but I've always assumed it probably trapped water and was therefore a Bad Thing. Re: [MBZ] Outside Lower Door Panels W124
You might want to take off the inner door panel and look to see how it is attached to the door, from the inside. Might be easier to push something out/off from inside? --R On 4/15/2010 12:15 PM, LarryT wrote: Howdy - Our '91 300D (W124) has plastic (?) exterior door panels which do an amazing job at fending off rust and dents/dings. Re: [MBZ] Outside Lower Door Panels W124
I took off the rear door panels on the 300SD to fix the window slider, and noticed the attachment thingies there for the cladding/trim, they look like they are those plastic rivet kind of things that sorta pop out when you push/pull on them, and lock into place. I had this vague fleeting thought that if I ever had to take that stuff off it might be easier to pop them out from the inside, but I did not look at them in detail. --R On 4/15/2010 1:26 PM, LarryT wrote: Thx Rich! Re: [MBZ] Outside Lower Door Panels W124
Thanks Kaleb -- Exactly what I needed to know - I'll remove the 2 screws and use a nylon pry to pop it off. BTW - did you ever find a drivers seat belt for my 91 300D? Ours works, but the handle that plugs into the receiver next to the seat is partly broken. Thanks again - LarryT 91 300D OilAnalysis Time?
