The autobahn also has cameras along the entire road and have electronic
signs that will open or close the shoulder lane based on conditions. If
there is an accident and resulting traffic jam they will use the cameras
to check the shoulder throughout the area (look for debris, broken down
cars, etc) and only when the know its clear will they open the
shoulder. It is not normally open for driving.

Europe also enforces traffic laws besides speeding and "rolling" through

Re: [MBZ] Road rules

2005-09-29 Thread Bucks2
That's an almost daily occurance. Someone in front is paying attention and
the dimbulb behind him wonders why he's pulling over so he swings out to pass.
I've seen that hundreds of times. I had a Semi with a flatbed trailer do that
exact thing yesterday and then swing out into the oncoming lane to make his
turn while we're stopping behind him with lights sirens and air horn blaring.
When we got past, do you know what he was doing?

Talking on his cell phone!

The best I ever saw was when I was driving in a no-passing zone
on a two laner. I saw the red&blues of a sheriff's patrol car
through the windows of the pickup truck behind me. As I pulled
over onto the shoulder, the deputy passed the pickup across the
yellow line (well, he's an emergency vehicle) and the pickup
crossed the yellow line to pass me, putting the cop on the
left shoulder of the road. The cop must have really been in
a hurry, because he didn't stop to beat the pickup driver
to a bloody pulp and arrest him for assaulting an officer.
(around here it's felonious resistance/assault on an officer
if you hit his fist with your face)
When driving in Eaton County, Michigan, it's best to keep your
eyes wide open, the stupidity is near Massachusetts levels.

Mitch.

he was absolutely right. They should get rammed by the rig and left to rot.

If you were hanging upside down trapped in your car because some jackass
clipped you as he cut in front of you and you're busy bleeding to death
 waiting
for me to get there, I'll bet you'd think different.

Not that I have strong opinions on this subject or anything

I honestly don't see why anyone would care if people are cruising in the
shoulder...they are the ones risking the ticket...opening the shoulder in
high traffic reduces traffic by 40%i saw it in the history channel on
the show "modern marvels"the german highway patrol allows it on the

Sorry, dude, but if you spent a week -- hell, probably even ONE DAY, in a
busy area -- in the front seat of a police cruiser, paramedic van, or fire
truck dealing with traffic on Code 3 runs, you'd be yelling, swearing and
foaming at the mouth too.

Sounds like you need a TIME OUT before you get into serious trouble!
Have you thought about taking an aggressive driving course (to cure,
not to teach it)?

Re: [MBZ] Road rules

2005-09-28 Thread Bucks2
I care about it because those jackasses keep me from getting to my job. When
they finally figure out that I'm going to keep my siren and air horn blowing
in back of them, then they try feebly to get out of the way by cutting in front
of some poor person who is waiting like they should. When I was new on the
job I had a Captain who swore that on his last day he was going to drive, and
run over the dimwits that did that. Now that I have that position, I'm thinking
he was absolutely right. They should get rammed by the rig and left to rot.

If you were hanging upside down trapped in your car because some jackass
clipped you as he cut in front of you and you're busy bleeding to death waiting
for me to get there, I'll bet you'd think different.
