Don't you just love this retro craze? Lets see there is the PT cruiser,
Mini, new beetle and the Fiat bambino, did I miss any?

Wonder how long before Daimler comes up with something retro?
BTW had a ride in one of those Fiat bambinos on the way to a yard where
a 220E was stored, the 220E sure rode a hell of of a lot better than the
Fiat, well I suppose it is a light car.

Isn't there a new SLC coming out? No louvers in the C-pillars though,
that would really be the right touch if they wanted to reference the
old ones. They could play up the rally heritage, too.

The Chevy HHR is on that retro look list too. It's a solid little car with
great power and great fuel mileage.

As for going bonkers trying to work out the CIS-E on the TE made by MB, I

Thunderbird, Camero, Mustang, 911, no wait, that never changed. hee hee

The new SLR is said to have proper gullwing doors again, but I don't think
it will be very retro, beyond that styling element. We'll see.

[MBZ] Satisfied owners, would buy again

2009-01-04 Thread harry watkins
Consumers Reports surveyed 425,000 owners of models from the last three years.
The question was would you definitely buy or lease the same model again?

If over 80% responded yes, that vehicle was in the top list. 27 made that
list, 15 European, 9 Japanese and 3 GM.

The top three were Prius 93%, Corvette Z06 92% and Mini Cooper Clubman 91%.
The others were: Honda Civic Hybrid, Camry Hybrid, Lexus LS, MB S-Class V8, BMW
335i (AWD), Cadillac CTS V6, BMW 335i (RWD), Chevrolet Corvette, Honda S2000,
Mazda MX-5 Miata, Audi TT, Porsche Boxster, Porsche 911, Mini Cooper S
Hatchback, Porsche Cayman, Mini Cooper Convertible, Mini Cooper Hatchback(non
turbo), Mazdaspeed 3, Audi 54, Volkswagen GTI, BMW 335i Coupe Convertible,
Smart ForTwo, Honda Fit and Nissan Murano (AWD).

The low list was determined if fewer than 50% answered yes. Of the 23, 20
were SUVs, and pickups. 20 of the 23 were American, 11 GM, 7 Chrysler and 2
from Ford.

The three worst ratings were; Jeep Commander (V6, 4WD) 32%, Chevrolet Colorado
(4WD), 41% and GMC Canyon (4WD), 41%.

Interesting - only the MB S class made the lsit, and Mini had a clean
sweep - all (AFAIK) of their models.

The thing about Consumer Reports is that their surveys are often not
scientific. Did they do a true random survey, or did they survey their
subscribers? If it was a subscriber survey, little surprise that the
top cars are the ones they've been pushing for the past 3 years.

Minis have always been popular. My gf had 5 or so of them, the first
requiring a piece of rope to keep the door closed back in her uni days, the
last, a Cooper S cab. She loved the first old banger as much as the last.
